I believe it's just a duology so after the next book everything will happen. I liked the book but there were some things that were annoying. Freya plays a strong female yet puts up with everyone pushing her around. Her family basically only cares about what her relationships can do for them and not her happiness and well being but she feels like she should still protect them. The mom never cared who she was with as long as they were powerful and could support her. At first it seemed like her brother cared but when they were reuinted he and his wife (her so called best friend) both were rude to her and didn't care how she felt. If she hadn't killed her husband her brothers wife would have been taken by him and neither of them seemed grateful that she did that for them.
    Screw that and them.
When Freya made that blood oath to Bjorn's real father (I can't remember his name) through his current wife to ensure Freya is true and faithful to her fake husband so she cannot betray him but the oath was very specific to his bloodline. So Freya is feeling all guilty about her attraction to his son and thinks if she gets her freak on with Bjorn the blood oath will punish her for the betrayal. News flash sweetheart, your fake husband's son is his bloodline so getting jiggy with Bjorn technically is still serving the same bloodline.
I suspected Bjorn was the one who was plotting against his father. If Bjorn spent most of his life with the king (? or whatever his title is) it's not surprising Bjorn's loyalty changed to him even if it was a case of Stockholm syndrome, but he treated him like a ward which was in his favor.
I wasn't surprised that he was the one who killed his first wife for some reason. If she told him of a prophecy that could have made him angry and he changed the wording of it to make him feel better and got rid of her so no one else know what it was would make sense, but I was surprised that his mom was still alive and the other leader has been protecting her all along. Since he saved him and his mom and kept her safe all that time it makes even more sense. I half wonder if his new wife had a hand in his decision to get rid of her. She certainly didn't want Bjorn to take their son's title to be next in line but technically Bjorn is his first born son and he should have it.
Freya might have even more power than what was displayed in the first book. She never really used her powers until she was forced to, so perhaps there are even more? I wonder if Bjorn really wanted to steal her away from everyone like he mentioned to her. Run away from all of it and have a life out of all the fighting over land and power. His alliance is with the King according to what he said when he found them but Bjorn seemed to be a bit surprised to see him in the cave. Maybe he changed his mind and wanted to get her out of there completely and run off before he found them. I can understand her being angry that he lied to her, but her alliance always seems to be with people who treat her like crap which is very annoying. Get your act together woman. I guess more will come in the next book to see how that all plays out. Hopefully she will choose the side who doesn't treat her like an object to use and one that is made to protect good people including herself.

      Amazing points!
I feel like everyone noticed how weak Freya was of a character and it seemed to bother everyone. Why make a point that she's a strong fighter and woman and then turn her into mush? She was actually useless for the most of the book and everything happened to her or because of her. She literally did nothing.
I hate that the entire family and her friend sucked. I was hoping at least the friend would be good, but they all are terrible and it was annoying to read. I wanted SOMEONE in her family on her side. I wish the dad had been alive because he at least seemed to try to protect her? Idk.
So I totally picked up on the bloodline thing too which is why I think she didn't get punished for running away with Bjorn? The blood oath kind of seems absolutely pointless in the first book? I'm wondering if it will come into play in the second book, like she can't divulge information to the Nordeland guy or she feels pain? I have no idea how it works because it was not explained like at all.
I was really shocked when we found out Bjorn's mom was still alive. That was probably the only thing that shocked me and I liked that plot twist a lot.
I do think Bjorn was trying to run away with Freya, but they were found and Bjorn isn't super happy about it.

Dear Kimberly, hope you are doing well 😊😊😊
I am a sucker for Norse mythology and I have enjoyed that aspect of the book greatly. The story was good, although quite predictable still I enjoyed it.
I didn’t like the constant pining over this very maskuline, super attraktive love interest, that was seriously getting on my nerves. But the level of smut and the length of it was really annoying and was putting me off from the story. Smut is the main reason I read little to none romantasy, and as usual it affected the star rating for this book also. I will definitely be continuing reading the other books as they come along, because I just love Norse mythology and this was not badly written. I am excited to see where it goes from here. It is ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me.

Yes! That's so awesome that you liked it!!!! It definitely got a lot of dislikes on here, but I'm glad someone enjoyed the pick.
I feel like the Norse mythology was done really well in this and that's what kept me interested in most of the book.
Her pining over him really was so annoying. It was just repeated way too many times. I'm worried book 2 will have more smut since smut seems to get worse as series go on. I hope that's not the case here

    Good info on it lol
I’d like to hear what you think about To Kill a Shadow and Red Queen (maybe you’ve gone over them? I’m not sure lol)
Should I give this book a shot?

I would probably skip this one personally. There are a lot of other good books out there to read that are more fun than this one unless you really want to read a viking book.
I haven't read The Kill a Shadow yet and do you mean Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard? If that one, I read that soooooo long ago that I barely even remember it, but I still have my copies of that series. I remember loving the first book and hating the rest of the series.

      @kimberlyreads
Alright good to know. I’ll definitely skip this one then.
Yessss red queen by Victoria aveyard. Should have clarified. Sorry! I only have the first book as of now, but i have a friend who LOVES the series. I got that Barnes and noble version with the red sprayed edges and the red dust jacket. Just finished reading Heartless, my other friends favorite book. Red queen is based in the Alice and wonderland type world like heartless right? I’ll give the first book a shot and see how i feel.
To kill a shadow is really an incredible book. I wont spoil it but i will say my opinions on certain things.
Really love the character designs and the personalities of the characters. For me and my preferences, it’s going at the perfect pace. Not too slow or fast. I’m reading a 2 book series (duology?) rn that goes REALLY fast. And I’ve read other books that go extremely slowly. For me, to kill a shadow is that perfect in between place. It’s also consistent in the pace which i love. I also think Katherine Quinn did a REALLY amazing job of describing everything. I also just love the world and fashion. The mist is super well described and I LOVE. IT.
Anyway, i wont waste your time with anymore rambling. side note: any book recommendations that are sorta like A Fate Inked In Blood, but good?
      Thanks!

Completely forgot to mention… have you read Stolen Heir/A Cruel Prince by Holly Black?

I am on the fence about the book. I was glad it wasn't a smutfest, which is always a concern with romantasy/romance. I thought the mythology and fight scenes were really good. I was hoping it was a stand alone with a HEA ending. With the betrayal at the end, I am really not inclined to continue. I figure there is 3 options, One would be like Acotar where she takes up with somebody else, But there really weren't any other candidates in this book so it would have to be somebody who we haven't been introduced to the app which i'm not interested in. The other option is for her to somehow. Eventually forgive him and get together with him. Which would be preposterous since he essentially had a hand in murdering her mother in front of her which is horrible and unforgivable. And the last one would be that they don't get together again Which probably isn't a romanticy and therefore unlikely but the one I want to happen.

I was hoping it would be a standalone too, but I feel like no one does standalone fantasy anymore, especially Romantasy. Yeah I'm thinking 50% of book 2 will be Bjorn trying to win her back, which I'm not opposed to. I like some groveling 🤣🤣

  • @nataliejohn4243

Okay, so I gave this a 4, which was probably being generous, but I didn’t hate it. The sexual stuff was a little much and I agree with you that it reads YA otherwise.
I actually like Bjorn, I think Freya (is that how they spelled it? Now I can’t remember) is more the annoying one. It get like she couldn’t make up her mind sometimes. Idk. I did like when she killed her husband and it is brave of her to risk so much for others.
I ended feeling like it was fine, but I have a suspicion/hope that I’ll like the next book better. I worry that she’s gonna be a whiny b**** and that she’ll be annoying, but hopefully not for too long cause I have a feeling Bjorn is on the right side of things and hopefully she sees that. I’m excited to learn more about the Nordelanders (it’s been a while, is that what they’re called?) because they seem like better people. Snorri was so annoying. I’d have a hard time saddling my horse to that guy.

Okay I'm glad at least someone seemed to generally enjoy it haha. It has gotten so much hate so far. You're the first person to like Bjorn so that's good. Her killing her husband was the one good thing Freya did and then her character turned into a "can't decide anything on my own and actually kind of sucks at fighting."
I have my fingers crossed that changing the setting and getting a whole new cast of characters in book two, will make it more interesting so I'm with you thinking I'll like book 2 more.

@@kimberlyreads My friends in another state read it for book club. They said everyone gave it either a 4 or 5. Once I read it I was a little surprised that they all liked it so much.
And yeah, I feel like Freya felt so wishy-washy. It was frustrating.

I was excited to read this because I enjoyed the Bridge Kingdom but I was not into Bjorn as a love interest. Too insta-love, and they were too obvious to everyone. Like, show me when he was ACTUALLY charismatic??? And it seemed really obvious that the marked by two gods thing would be important (which nobody on page seemed concerned about???) and who the traitor was. Like. Come on. Generally I agree that it was pretty mid.

    • @kimberlyreads
      @kimberlyreads  2 місяці тому

Yes! I feel like no one liked the Bjorn relationship much at all. I'm kind of hoping she introduces a new love interest in book two (if I even decide to read it) and it changes direction, but I have a feeling she won't do that.
Bjorn was the anti-charismatic hero no one asked for

I didn’t like this one much either. I really liked the beginning and then it just went downhill and was a snooze fest. I also just didn’t care abt the characters or romance and did a bunch of skimming
