Welcome to my UA-cam channel JB_Auto!
As an experienced car mechanic, I will be sharing my knowledge, covering most Automotive repairs, like Diagnosis and repairs of engine management, ABS, entertainment, body electrical systems, HVAC, suspensions, brake systems, and more.
I began my journey acquiring experience since I was twelve together with my father in an independent Car workshop. I also worked in many authorized workshops: Opel/GM, LandRover/ RangeRover, Saab, Skoda, Mazda.
I'm also interested in motorcycles, so do not be surprised if such content appears on my channel.
Enjoy.

Mazda 2.2 skyactiv diesel, engine difficult to start or no start.
Initially, I thought the tappets were so bad that the engine did not start. Please take a look at what I found out.
I was working on a Mazda 2.2 Skyactiv Diesel engine, but the repair or diagnosis could be related to any engine.
In this video, the noises of tappets are audible at 2.5 K RPM on a cold and hot engine. There is no rule in which hydraulic lash adjusters are noisy at specific RPMs; I have experienced noises at various engine speeds, especially between 2.5K and 4K RPM. You can experience noises from tappets when idle or at any RPM.

Short and very informative - that's what a professional is!!! Thank you very much for the video mate!!!
Thanks for watching 🙂
@@JB_AutoPick up strainer blockages or he didn't change the oil regularly enough or he had a Mexican sourced engine and not the Japanese one! My engine is approaching 300000 kilometres without a problem except for the thermostat that needs changing. I run Castrol Magnatec 10W 40W rather than the intended 5W 30W simply because the camshaft wears faster due to extra cycles that Mazda boffins thought would make the engine more efficient. A small number of engine units were supplied with the wrong tolerance washer supplied on the cylinder heads, and Mazda should be held liable for seized engines caused by the subsequent carbon build up as a direct result of that washer. Some people bang on about the carbon build up in the intake manifold, all modern diesel engines have that problem thanks to the EGR valve, what can you do? Buy a petrol engine and get bad economy either way you lose
There is no Mexican sourced engine. Engines are before and after modifications that are the only difference. Regarding injector washers, I posted a video explaining what was wrong, plus other videos touching some of the issues you have mentioned and more. The latest 2.2 D engine, which is reliable, is the one introduced with the Adblue system, with no issues as in the previous engines as of now. It was introduced somewhere between 2019/ 2020, if I remember correctly. Thanks for watching🙂
Lots of problems with that engine. They suffer failure on the waste gate, EGR problems, oil pressure issues, engine failure aka seized engine is not uncommon due to washer tolerance, etc etc
I used your video, thank you very much, but after a few weeks, my Head Up Display was misconfigured again. Any solutions? I can do this every time it's misguided, but it would be best if the height of the screen is always adjusted.
@adrianfelix2177 Thanks, as I mentioned in the video, there could be axle problems, a whole headup display, battery low or at its end of life, check also comments and suggestions from other viewers under the video. Viewers' comments were sensible possible solutions to the issue.
I have a 2015 CX 5 2,2 Skyactive - Ran 20k km over the Oil Change interval, apparently the Oil made so much damage that they're changing the whole engine. I think it's weird that "newer" cars today can't handle that you drive 20k over the Oil change intervals before something goes wrong. The oil in my engine was like sirup. My insurance takes 60% of the bill though so I guess it's not that "bad".
Good video btw. I'm getting back my old engine when they swap it out for a new one, then I'll take it apart and see what was going on inside :)
Thanks for watching. It is quite important to keep up with oil change intervals in this engine. regeneration of dpf dilutes oil with fuel. If oil is diluted with fuel, there is no sufficient lubrication provided. Other technologies where Adblue is used for dpf regeneration allow engines for longer oil change intervals. In many vehicles with Adblue, intervals recommended by manufacturers are 40-50K, but is it good for the engine anyway? 😉 I personally on those engines of Mazda 2.2 recommend replacement every 8K km mixed driving.
You can also watch a similar topic as in the link below. The oil change interval also contributed to the issue. ua-cam.com/video/iQHnk4ksAbE/v-deo.htmlsi=iAsC5A_oZwdHUSUV
Good information, what caused this wear on camshaft?
Thanks, To me, it looks like those HLAs were mechanically damaged first, and then these metal particles were circulating in the oil system, damaging the engine.
Uh... wtf was that?? Great informationLESS! video!
@@deje7227 That was somebody changing mirror making mistake with wiring routing, because that happens too often I made video 😉
Good day Such a question. I own a Mazda 6 2.2 diesel 16 year old. There was a large consumption of fuel. 12 liters in the city and 7 liters on the highway at 110 km/h. I thought that the DPF was clogged, and that's why there was such a flow. The DPF was cut out and the EGR was programmatically silenced. They asked for stage 1. The chips were dropped from the EGR. But the growth remained the same. But with the chips removed from the EGR, the MAF readings are around 10 g\s. And when I put on the chips, it shows 4.5-6.5
Chip tuning box changes input values to the PCM. That is why when you remove the chip tuning box, readings change. Based on the logic you have presented, I suspect that EGR was physically altered as well. Regarding fuel consumption, I had a case where unprofessional mapping of PCM was performed, and increased fuel pressure caused injector damage, hence excessive fuel consumption and other issues.
I did a battery reset and the P0328 fault disappeared for a couple of days. Today it showed up again. Most likely a faulty sensor I guess?
Yes, it usually is. By the way, reset by disconnection of battery is the same as clearing using diagnostic tool, but that first one takes more time😉
Is this valid for passenger side of a base trim CX-30 for 2023? Bought a replacement from a junker so no paint needed thankfully.
There was no change or irrelevant changes, so yes.
if I used ultrasound would you say it works?thanks
It would work, but after that, do good cleaning to flush all what is inside.
Hallo and thanks for the video. My case: after the engine head gasket was replaced, as well as the timing chain and everything that goes with it - during the test drive, "system check required" comes on, i.e. a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in the middle. Error code P1336:00-2F. Do you think that this reset from the video could solve that problem? I have mazda cx5 diesel, year 2016.
@novaps4111 Hi, thanks for watching. That error code indicates multiple solutions, so you should troubleshoot. Possibly, that's one of the solutions in the checking procedure. I've never had a pleasure diagnosing this DTC, so im not certain, but there was a viewer who claims that the reset has helped. This procedure is mainly utilised after timing chain replacement. So if you perform the reset, then I would like to hear from you what the result was.
@ I drove the car today and at first it showed this error. After driving for about 20 minutes and then starting the car a second time - the error disappeared. I did the reset anyway. It seems ok to me. The car drives great.
@novaps4111 Thanks 😊
Why did you release the camshafts, what problem did you have?
@@cransaftvalve734 Excessive wear of the camshaft and therfore replacement.
@@JB_Auto OK, Jb, thanks.
Thank you for this.
I can hear a kind of knocking sound that goes up and down with engine speed on cold start, but it's random and is not always there... do you have any idea what that could be?
You need to locate the sound and frequency using that method as on video. There is no point in indicating what it could be until you narrow possibilities.
Hi,1st: can you take out (and then in ) the glass itself without heating it? unfortunately I do not have such as yours..unless hairdryer would be enough? 2nd. has Mazda improved the cog wheels inside the mechanizm (for metalic one like the ones at aliexpress)?
You can do it with a hair dryer, but it will take more time. Mazda has improved the sealing of the motor, not sprockets. I've seen those sprockets on that shopping platform, and it could be a good idea to try them.
How did you lock the oil pump to torque the oil pump gear bolt to 130nm?
Special tool, I've heard that's no longer available, and the part number is in this video at 2:57 ua-cam.com/video/VF6cVSb5dG8/v-deo.htmlsi=JkGcvyZDs2xfCTxC
This is the best explanation I've seen for what's wrong with my CX-5 rear brakes after getting new pads a couple days ago.
Thanks, I'm glad it's helped 😊
Thanks for this information! So does this impact the performance of the car a lot? I have an appointment next week for my garage to look at it but in the coming week i have to drive 500km in total, and i'm not sure if that is smart :)
If the knock sensor is faulty, then it doesn't impact performance at all. The knock sensor malfunction is the most common problem on Mazda vehicles. Anything else can be excluded, but always perform proper diagnose 🙂
@@JB_Auto thanks for the reply and help brother
Thanks for the video. Should I worry about this issue on 2019yb mazda cx5 with 2.2 diesel engine, 184 hp?
You're welcome. All 2.2 diesel engines have injector washers, so replace them every 80K-100K km to avoid that issue.
Just did this...thankyou for the video very informative.
@@jayc342009 Thanks for watching 🙂
Hi, I have this on my mazda 3 2012, 1.6 petrol. Is there any other causes I could check for before having to take it to the garage to be sorted? Thank you.
@jim6751 Hi, for one DTC, there could be many solutions. In this case, other solutions for P0328 are: PCM faulty, wiring between knock sensor and PCM, knock sensor, and engine mechanical problem. Normally, in the case of P0328, I've never had any other diagnosis results than a faulty knock sensor (on Mazda), other vehicles all mentioned causes.
@@JB_Auto Is there any chance that a fault spark plug or coil pack could cause this error even though it hasn't thrown up any other codes. It runs perfectly and with no knocking noise at all. I can't see any sings of bad wires, not to say it isn't anything further down. Anything you would suggest for me to check before i take it to the garage? Thank you.
@jim6751 I don't think the ignition system may cause that, You would see errors related to that. Since the engine is running smoth, you can exclude mechanical issues. Based on the experience, I do not have any suggestions, besides those checks as I performed in the video. A faulty knock sensor is a pretty common problem. many technicians do not even diagnose the error code. They go straight to the replacement of the part. It is only me who does not trust common problems and solutions 😉
@@JB_Auto sounds like a garage job then. Thank you for your time.
@jim6751 Thanks for watching, It is a simple job, not convenient access to certain places, but it is possible to repair at home. If one likes that kind of work🙂

I have a Mazda 6 2.2d 2019, and I have a error P24AE:00-EC on my car, it's the PM sensor. Do you know where's this sensor?
@betohoepers That is a differential pressure sensor. its role is to count Particulate Matter PM.
Hello. I am experiencing the P06 fault code in my Opel İnsginia 170 Hp gasoline car. What exactly needs to change? please can you help?
@nisanci46 Hi. The fault code you've provided is not the full code. This video is not related to opel vehicles, so I can not help you much🙂
@@JB_Auto Excuse me sir. Full code PE06DE. I spent a lot of money and did not get any results. I also changed the oil pump but there was no solution. What exactly needs to be done, please help.
@nisanci46 I'm not familiar with those Opel engines. therefore, I can not advise you on that issue. Check UA-cam channels where people are dealing with that code on opel or chevrolet. I know there are a lot of good videos.
Good job, excelent
Excellent video! I would have never known how to remove the sensor from the bracket.
Easy, isn't it. Thanks for watching🙂
I know this is 3 years old but i just rebuilt a 6g74 gdi quad cam 3.5 litre v6 with the exact lifters i bleed them but did not preload them (🤬fourth time im dismantling it and hopfully the last) this is what i needsd to do but had no idea now because of this and your detailed recording i can finally finish it 😂
@robertkemp5674 Hi, there is no pre-loading it is just a cleaning and bleeding procedure. Even if you leave them empty, you should be able to start the engine. The oil pump should feed them with oil. When I forgot to blead them out, I heard noise while cranking, and after some more cranking, noise has gone. But yes, that's the proper way to perform the job. Good luck with your repair 🙂
you just made my day , thanks for info

hello, it's normal that on my bmw 335i n55 the hydraulic tappet after bleeding with oil the tappet becomes very hard and doesn't move a bit?
@noxwolf6678 Yes, it's normal. All HLA, which looks like the one as on my video, will always be hard after bleading, and that is actually a sign that they are in good shape. If you feel rebound, then it should be replaced.
@@JB_Auto ahh okay thanks ! because there are other types of lifters? which should not be hard after bleeding it with oil
@noxwolf6678 I don't think so. There could be slightly different shapes, but the principle is always the same. I know that you may be confused due to different approaches, and therefore, comments like on my channel quote: "YOU SHOULD NEVER PRIME OR PUMP UP YOUR LIFTERS" end of quote. Due to those comments, I also consulted that with my colleague, who is master technician for VW, we looked at procedures in the workshop manual, and that is exactly the same procedure.
@@JB_Auto Okay, I had a doubt because I have a ticking noise when cold I start the car the noise appears either after 5-10 min or when just after starting I drive for a few meters, and disappears after a few minutes when the engine rises in temperature when I ride after 10 minutes no more noise I dismantled the 24 lifters 2 were dead because they fit just but didn't come out I bought 2 new ones all I purged at the end they were all hard and I I still have the noise, I don't understand what it could be coming from now
@noxwolf6678 Well, if it is a higher frequency, then it could be other lifters. The valve train noise will have a higher frequency, and the crankshaft system will have lower, which is easy to distinguish. In certain cases, injectors can make noises similar to the lifters. Sometimes, it's difficult to find where the noise comes from. Check out my other videos about how to find noise from the engine. Try to use those approaches, and here are links. ua-cam.com/video/3NPsgmi0T-w/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/YpHiD6TA6G4/v-deo.html
YOU SHOULD NEVER PRIME LIFTERS YOU PUTTING INTO CAR! THEY HAVE TO BE EMPTY! thay are auto adjusted, when you prefill lifter with oil it have no more adjustment capability.

Hi, do I need to blocked chain bofore taking out from oil pomp?
@radosawkomoda7536 you need to block the oil pump sprocket with the special tool. It is shown at 2:55. The tool is not available at the dealership, so you need to figure something out.
@@JB_Auto yes thanks for answers. But I mean do I need block the chain like timing chain to not change position. Mechanic told me that If I do not make it the engine can work not propely afterthat.

Yes, you can do that by disconnection of physical components or via diagnostic tool.

Hi I have a mazda CX 5 2.2 DIESEL. it Shows motoroilpress control with Red, i Chanced oil, filter, oil pressure switch, after i diverse 50 km Shows again same Problem. What can it be ? If i try to drive fast like 100 kmh it Shows this again, Could its oil strainer be blocked?
@Ofofofofofofofofofofofof That's possible, but there must be error codes stored, so start with that.
I had a low oil pressure red warning light in diesel Mazda 6, about month ago. I stopped immediately, once I noticed it, probably within 30-60s. I check the dashboard frequently. Then I decided to drive to the nearest car park at a park and soccer fields, circa 300-500m to spend a night and find a garage. I already felt guilty for driving a bit with the oil warning, but it seems I good lucky and there was no serious damage to the engine. Injector washers and oil sump strainer were replaced, and later two injectors, turbo unit and dpf, eckhem, cleaned, because the car had other issues. Last week I got another engine inspection required yellow warning so the fight isn't over ;) I also need to do the front suspension to pass the annual tests.
@pavel9652 That's quite annoying warning after warning, but if the vehicle is repairable, then it's a relief. Good luck with it.
