Great video, thanks to that I could pinpoint where my mechanic made mistake and it turned out, he hasn't set the calliper piston properly or hasn't depressed the brake pedal as on your video.RH brake disc and pads were burned, so he had to replace brakes free of charge.

Thanks. Simple job, but so easy to make mistakes, I have customers complaining about the same thing, quite often, so I decided to make a video about it.

Great video, so I had my rear brake pads changed but the mechanic either didn't know or forgot to place the EPB in service mode and I feel like the car is braked while on road, the engine sounds like doing extra effort to continue and smells like burned rubber in both rear tires, I set the service mode and re set it but the problem still remains, what should I do?

Thanks. If the technician changed brake pads and cleaned contact points properly then It looks like you have a problem with brake callipers. We have replaced many of them on the first models of Mazda with EPB. The main symptoms are brake dragging, discolouration of brake pads and discs, uneven wear of brake pads meaning: one brake pad is faster worn out than the other on the same side. Most of those brake callipers has been replaced during the warranty period, so in your case rather deterioration/ malfunction is suspected🙂

I put my Mazda6 into maint mode and then out of it. But I did not see the piston retracted. Do I have to push it in? Mine is 3-pronged piston as you showed late in the video. For now I did not need to change pads so, I just assembled all back, till fall. Piston's always used to be "turned-in", before EPBs. Thanks

Hi, you need to push them in and never turn them, turning the piston may damage the internal mechanism.

@@JB_Auto Thank you. Great info. I'm actually now recalling that in some other video guy pushed caliper piston in just by sticking a pry-bar between disk and the pad, before removing the caliper itself.
I usually do a partial brake fluid replacement during pads change. I put a clear hose on the valve, open the valve and push piston in. The dirty fluid in the caliper exists instead of going back into the delivery line.
But in this case, I feel, pushing piston back will play no role. I would just have to achieve this by usual - push the brake/open valve procedure. Am I correct? Or may be I am not, because piston needs to be pushed max to brake pads by fluid really. hmm.

You can do as you wrote, I prefer to bleed out the whole system to partial bleeding because the brake fluid circulates and is contaminated everywhere. A pry bar is ok for pushing the piston', you can also use big pipe pliers.

    Hello, I just wanna ask.
Mine got serviced weeks ago and since then, my service mode keeps turning on when triggering the EPB(brake and pull up) or going to parking with EPB on.
It's a headache especially when in a traffic light and there are cars behind.
I wonder how can I fix this?

Hi, Let's clarify: The warning light orange for EPB turns on after using (engaging or disengaging) the hand brake? If this happened after serving EPB, means that it wasn't properly ended maintenance mode that leads to brake caliper malfunction and it will most likely end with replacement of brake caliper. If you have more questions just write.

I had a similar case this week, I found the wrong setting of the brake caliper's piston so I adjusted it, then I depressed the brake pedal to engage the brake pad protrusion, and then I performed setting EPB into maintenance mode and then ended maintenance mode. That helped and since then no warning light. If that doesn't help, connect diagnostic tool to read out DTC's to check which cliper is affected, try to delete DTC's, engage, disengage EPB and re-test it. If the same DTC is triggered then replace the malfunctioning caliper, mechanical part only.

I do not have it yet. Does it work sometimes or not at all? I would check if FSC Forward Sensing Camera lens and window glass are clean, if you have any moisture, frost it will inhibit its function. You may need to visit the Mazda dealership, there are many possibilities including reprogramming or replacement of FSC and more, it depends on which model year and what DTCs are stored.

There is no calibration, you can either put it into maintenance mode or exit the mode. If the EPB motor is working longer than the other side then there is a malfunction.
