    I discovered that if you apply light pressure to the gearshift knob when in PARK (pulling back towards your knee) you can then turn-off the car. I have been doing his for a few years - works every time.

      Yes, and to fix the issue, you can apply some piece of rubber onto the tip of that switch, and the problem will disappear.

    THANKS for posting this vid. You are WAY more patient than me. It took me about 1 hour with a LOT of swearing and some crying. Some of those clips are diabolical. All in all I'm NOT impressed with this design. Oh, I used a Dewalt right angle gear 1/4 drive for those two Phillips screws.

    Great video! Gets right to the things that need to be done and why and doesn't include a bunch of unnecessary steps. Replaced this switch on my 2014 Mazda 6 today and all is well. Spent about $50 all total including a some plastic pry tools and a tool to pry apart the snap together electrical plugs (almost necessary for the plug that fits into the new switch). The dealer quoted me $800 for the work so save me a bundle.

      Thanks for watching. That was the only reason for the battery being drained on those cars.

    Great videos with well described and clear commentary. I like those special plug removal pliers. I would love to get some. Do they have a special name?

    Thank you for the very good video. The challenge is showing an easier way to get to the switch and you did that nicely. I saw in the comments further down that you identify the special tool to pull the electrical connector from the switch. I'm getting that to make it easier, and some plastic spuds. Do you have any opinion on the parts offered on Amazon versus getting the part from Mazda?

    • @JB_Auto
      @JB_Auto  Місяць тому

      Hey, thanks for watching. As long as the part is genuine, you can buy even on amazon. Someone reported that the pliers are no longer available, but you will remove the connector by pressing it with any tool, even hand.

    Great video. My daughter used it to change hers, but it is still not shutting down. Is it possible that the new part is bad as well? Also, what purpose does the spring serve?

    • @JB_Auto
      @JB_Auto  5 місяців тому

      Most likely the switch unit is not entirely in its place, because those two screws are not tightened. Usually new screws are harder to turn and at certain point you think that's enough, but there is more room to tighten them. The spring is just to keep lever under tension. If you lost the spring and as far as I remember it'll still work.

    Thank you for the Video, I've changed the part with a new one, but the problem still persists, do you have any other suggestions please?

    • @JB_Auto
      @JB_Auto  Рік тому +1

      Try to tighten those two small screws holding the switch unit, it might be loose and that causes the problem, apart from that we have never had any issues with it.

  • @timgifford4637

    did you have to bend the arms of both the springs to re-install them into their place?

    • @JB_Auto
      @JB_Auto  Рік тому

      You talk about override switch spring, I did not need to bend it.

    Does this part match my 2014 Mazda 6 Grand Touring? The part I have looks nothing like this.

    • @JB_Auto
      @JB_Auto  Рік тому +1

      I'm not certain about model year, so if you have the same problem, then check at your dealership by VIN number, as far as I remember there wasn't much difference between 6 and CX5

    Just replaced my switch according to your instructions… 30 minutes later, great success! Thank you
    The only tools I needed were:
    -A trim remover tool to not damage the panels
    -small phillips
    -long skinny flat head
    -needle nose pliers to carefully unplug the switch
