Band of Brothers Eagle's Nest Episode - Where it REALLY happened
Thankyou very much for this very interesting, informative video. I have visited this lane on a war tour. One of those times that i will never forget.
Thanks for checking it out
A really interesting video! I had a great great uncle who sadly died during ww1 in October 1918
You are correct. “Hier ruhen …” is “Here rest …“ soldiers of … 👍🏻
Not to forget some of the shells contain chemical weapons
Just a bullshit talk vid
Horrific war that is over shadowed by WW2. The tactics used to fight this war were outdated and costly. The superior authority on both sides are known to have very little regard for the soldiers on the front line. Very sad war. Thanks for sharing some of these stories about these men.
All Normal men who would if they were to meet in Peace time would have passed and maybe said hello to each other ? Normal men who would have had Mothers Fathers Brothers & sisters and children ? Normal men then because of leaders end up in a fight and pay the cost of war Its pathetic to think ? this sort of thing goes on and on ? And less then 1900miles away in Ukrainian the same fighting is going on today between Normal Men again?
Thanks Rob. The same at Zuydcoote Military Cemetery, there is a Britsh, French and German sector in the cemetery.
Thanks Rob. Sobering video. Regardless of nationality each man was someones son/husband/father.
fascinating video
Thanks for sharing this really interesting video explaining what went on both above and below the ground, nice to see the bench and memorial to the Nurses and VAD along with the information panels. Nice video Rob.

I live in the Luxembourg Ardennes. Being sensible means never ever lighting a campfire, bonfire, or any open fire directly on the ground. You just don’t know what is centimetres below your feet. There are warning signs about this.
Thank you for posting. Both my Great Grandfather's were there at Vimy. 111th South Waterloo C. E. F.. My Grandparents were introduced at an Annual Re-Union in Galt. I plan to visit.
Very cool!
On the Somme now for the 1st time. Using your videos for a lot of information, thank you !
The shaft with the iron rung ladder would appear to be an alternate escape shaft from the guardroom. Really enjoyed the visit and look forward to seeing more
It’s nice to see some collaboration and mutual support (you and Chris) in your efforts to make history come alive.
The fact that there is actual footage is simply mind blowing.
As always Rob...👍👍
🤙
Shifty and Lipton were in different platoons. You have the location correct but Lipton would not have been there. BOB ERROR
Dang, History is so interesting. I’d love to visit Europe simply to tour the Cathedrals and the Battlefields….. also the real old forts of all types. I could do it in less than 3 months, I think. So you all get my GoFundMe started, because as an American, of course, I won’t pay for anything myself…..And make it big, as I only travel First Class. Also, every donor who donates over $500 gets their choice of a -free- a *_50% off cover price_* choice of a 1993 issue of National Geographic or a 2005 issue of Smithsonian Magazine….. postage *_PAID!_*
Great job!
The Somme fascinates me. My Great Granduncle died there, but he was an artilleryman. Like, not even the guys behind the front lines were safe! I wish I could find out more about it.
Rob, great job showing the lay of the land. Love your content.
Thank you
Gripping narration.
The insane thing is, that footage is real. Not like a lot of other footage of the Somme or ww1 for that matter which is often from older movies/ scenes shot after the war. Men really fell and likely died
I have actually been there. Having been to Mountaban to see where the Kingos fought.
Thanks for sharing! ✨
The landscape really wasn’t conducive for a full frontal attack. Artillary really saved the day for the French. Appears they were still using Am Civil war tactics 50 years later.
Learning a lot, thanks Rob. Amazed how flat the land is.
Very sensitively done. Great job
Very interesting and informative. A beautiful country setting that has witnessed tragedy and death to a degree difficult to comprehend. Thanks for the video.
👊
@@historyinyourhand1787 I hope you and yours are well my man.
The ground looks so peaceful now. But I can imagine the horrible conditions during the battles that took place there.
The land there today has a real beauty to it - hard to imagine the contrast to what it would have been like
In my humble opinion, the Battles of the Somme should be called the Somme Campaign, For too long I have scratched my head when people say "The Battle of the Somme", my reply is always "Which Battle of the Somme Campaign are you referring to"?
You're right that the wider Battle of The Somme which ran on for 5 months is made up of lots of smaller Battles. The bit most commonly talked about (the first two weeks) forms part of The Battle of Albert
I rather think you are being a bit pedantic here. It just an all encompassing name. I bet you get some funny looks when you ask that question. Better people than you refer to it as the battle of the Somme. When I say better I mean military historians.
Great video and very interesting. Many thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
Excellent style of presentation.😊
Thanks a lot 😊
Hey Rob, how are things? Great video. I have learned more about British involvement than French involvement in the Battle of the Somme, so I'm grateful to learn more about French forces in WWI. The map and your overview of where the British and French troops were are helpful. I definitely want to check out the plaque (I'd like to visit the Somme). It's helpful too. Good information about their efforts to capture Dublin Redoubt (and their actions afterward). Good information about the French success also. Do you plan to make a video about the reasons for success by French troops? :) Nice video. :) Kudos, Rob! Take care.:].
Thanks Alex. That could make a good future video nice idea 👍
@@historyinyourhand1787 Anytime :) If you make a video about French successes at the Somme, I'd definitely be interested in seeing it :).
Great vid! Came here on a recommendation from Chris at VTH, he was not wrong! 👍
Thanks for coming!
Precise well researched video thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Another great video.. I'm looking forward to returning to the Somme in September.
machine gun wood?
Yes it was a small wood near Montauban. I don't know the history of it too well but I assume just a code name on British trench maps
@@historyinyourhand1787 thanks, very interesting
True heroes.. Lest we forget.. 😔
Another great video Rob...👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you for this most moving video.....full of poignancy. Les Griffiths
Thank you
As an ex-serviceman I remember talking to and working with WW1 survivors when I was young. How they endured such hardships still fills me with respect.
Thankyou for visiting and sharing your thoughts. Very emotive.
Thanks for checking it out
Those poor parents ,how tragic and no help at all from the powers that be.Thanks for that insight.
Imagine thinking you would be killed. But going anyway. Now that’s bravery. Lest we forget.
Absolutely
Another great video. I visited in the late 1990s tbh I was a bit underwhelmed. However, seeing your video it looks far more impressive than I remember.
This comment says a lot about you then.
