A note for this one.. In the video when talking about the Rousseau brothers I incorrectly mention that they were both killed in the Normandy area. In fact Joseph Maurice Rousseau was killed in action further inland when he was dropped behind enemy lines in the Lorraine. #alwayslearning
Thank you for remembering these brave men. They are not forgotten.
Sombre and quite fitting that it is a rainy day. Not easy researching and making these videos Rob, so thank you. 🙏🏻🙂
As always Rob, thank you for making videos telling of the British involvement, not only in WW2 but the Great War too, your videos are informative and very respectful, which in my opinion makes this a top draw channel.. Thank you again.
Lest we forget! So young too young, they died liberating others ,they died for freedom .
Well done Rob! Thanks for bringing us these sites.
Great video Rob! Lest we Forget 🙏🏻
Great video, Rob! I hadn't heard of the Ranville War Cemetery, but it was great to learn about it.
Awesome how there is a map there. It is helpful.
Thanks for sharing the stories of some of the troops buried in the cemetery. Sad how some of those who are buried are unidentified.
I feel sad for the families of the troops who were killed. I cannot imagine their pain, especially those who lost more than one family member, like the Rousseau family.
Great video. I like how you cover both British and American history/content and I learn a lot from your videos. Kudos, Rob! 😊
The day after D-day, this year, we visited this cemetery. A bagpipe player stood in front of a grave. While playing you could see how moved he was. Then he explained what happened. A soldier was captured by Germans, got executed right away. The bagpipe player knew the story that was told by a family of the soldier. For my nephews and me this was a very emotional moment. You brittons know how to keep the 2 wars alive by remembering them so well.
So cool that some paratroopers jumped with their dog. I did not know this.
Been there and you have to look for it. It was interesting that both allies (UK and Canadian) and Germans. Ranville was great. Did you see the graves inside the church garden walls. Not as many and not sure why those WWII graves are not in the cemetery. Keep up the great work!
Thank you - yes I visit those graves in the churchyard in the video.
Another great video. I too was at Ranville just after D Day. A great deal of interest in Den's resting place. Anybody visiting should go right on entering the cemetery main gate and the church yard entrance is there. Lots of poppies / flowers placed on his grave. Still not sure if he was the first killed that night or Fred Greenhaigh?
I supposed it depends if we talk about first killed vs first killed by the enemy. Either a tragic day for both
@@historyinyourhand1787 Agreed.
Maurice Rousseau wasn’t killed in Normandy, he died with 2nd SAS in the Lorraine and his grave was moved here.
Ah wow interesting thanks Paul. I must have noted that incorrectly in my research
@@historyinyourhand1787 it’s mentioned on his headstone!
@@OldFrontLineCheers Paul. Added an update into a pinned comment 👍
the 12th SS managed to defend Caen for over a month which is just west of Ranville.
In the churchyard cemetary theres a French Father and 4 year old killed on D Day
How sad
Yep that hit me
