Forty years, now retired mechanic, and that's the best treatment I've seen for removing exhaust manifolds. Your explanation of how the manifold warps as you remove bolts and jams the remaining bolts, is spot-on. Taking your time with this stubborn job as you have done here is the way to go. I tip my hat to you.

Absolutly i learned the hard way what that first "TINK" means. doesn't mean its broken loose all the way just rock it back and forth till you feel it coming out like a new bolt.

My Brother Harold taught me how to loosen\tighten bolts, screws and nuts to keep from breaking them back in the 70's. He was a professional mechanic his whole life. My Step Father Herman who was a Tank Mechanic for the Marine Corps. in WWII taught me how to heat up the metal near the other side of the fastener to help not break the bolt or screw. He was sent to Japan on a Liberty Ship. He spent 1 day there and then Japan surrendered. He left on a ship the next day back to the United States. He got a job from Brown and Root and worked for them 33 years before he retired. They gave him a Radio\Alarm Clock and a Gold Plated writing Pen for a retirement gift.

I have automated the back-and-forth process some by taking a weak impact driver (like a Ryobi homeowner impact driver) and just going back and forth. Just one or two forward impact stikes, followed by one or two reverse impact strikes. Over and over again. I rarely see any rotational action when I do this technique, but it's happening at a much smaller scale. I do this maybe 100 times, then try by hand (by feel). If I get no motion..I soak it again with more penetrant and go for another 100 with the impact driver. I have gotten the most rusted, corroded bolts free on farm implements that sat out in the field for decades. It works..but it requires you to get into the mindset that you're going to be there for a while with nothing to show for it hammering back and forth with that impact driver.

Awww guy. No. Penetrating spray takes time. Heat is good too. Time frames are important also. Difference in metals and such plays a part. I soaked a cast iron part, with stainless bolts for days amd days, plus heat, then welded a nut to try and extract. Sheered the stainless. Drill and helicoil in the end. Which I don't like to do, but I had time, so customer didn't need a new part.

Absolutely! I have a bunch of air compressors around. This one the drain plug was massively rusted. So every time I went by it I would wire brush it and hit it with PB Blaster or one of those. After oh say 2-3 weeks, it was perfectly clean and came right out. If you have the luxury of time for something, use it to your advantage. Subbed and liked.

Acetone and ATF 1:1 is the best tested "penetrating oil" of thousands of products and mixtures tried by some researchers who obsessed over finding the best one. And if a ferrous bolt snaps in a blind hole if the block happens to be aluminum and a motor can't be easily dropped.. dissolve it in a liquid solution of heated alum.

Good tutorial however the ratchet gets stressed so use a T bar or breaker bar . It also saves having to keep reversing the ratchet. I'm not bitchin about the way you did it , you did well .

Excellent video. Work those bolts. Heat is king, but careful how you apply the heat, don't over do it, get to the bolt before the heat does. If heat does reach the bolt, then spray just the bolt with WD40 to cool just the bolt. Wacking it with a hammer might also help, but don't over do this either. Add more WD40 as you work those bolts, it will sink in deeper and deeper.

You do know you didn’t have to pull the cylinders right? They are displacement style cylinders so the end gland cap is the most only pressure seal. The piston has no seal, only a wiper.
