    Thanks for the video. I’ve been looking for a replacement fence system for my 45 yr old Powermatic cabinet saw. Hard to stomach the prices for a solid fence system these days! This one w 7’ rails is now $589, which is about what I paid for the saw a decade ago.. Vega is a bit less but has the round rails that I’d like to get away from, and I keep reading the finish on Vega is poor (everything needs deburred). The lesson here for anyone buying a used saw is to be certain you like the fence.

    I like it it’s basic and simple, but you didn’t describe how you can pull that jar out without spilling more tipping it upwards. Now on the butt end of the jar I’ve seen where you can loosen the screw and it’ll tip downward and just pull it straight out.

    This is by far the best video (imho) on UA-cam on how to build a bird feeder. The others just whizz through the process waving their fancy high powered equipment and talking at breakneck speed as they leap from one stage to the next. In marked contrast, you stick pretty much to basic tools and explain and work through each stage at a sensible pace. Thank you so much. I can't wait to get started !

    I bought the same saw a couple of years ago and went through the same process with the fence. Now I have a very solid and reliable table saw set up. A question. I noticed that you have a 4” dust collection hose connected to the cabinet. How well does your dc work with the saw? I’ve not had much success and was wondering if you have any feedback. Thanks, Nick.

      It is a good saw overall. As far as the dust collection, it's not great, have to push the saw dust into the DC port with a stick every now and then to clean out the cabinet. Thanks for your comment.

    Sorry to hear about the house fire. Hope everyone is alright. I like the design with the front hinged. Noticed what appears to be a bolt sticking out at each end (5:38 and right at the end). Purpose? Any plans or dimensions? I notice that these filter boxes often seem to be deeper than necessary, or is there something I’m missing? Happy New Year and stay safe!

    • @AndersenWoodCrafts
      @AndersenWoodCrafts 5 місяців тому

      I was securing the side filter with a little block of wood, the bolt sticking out is to secure the front filter with a little block of wood. I don't know how imperative it is, but the reason the boxes seem to be deep is to allow enough air in the inside of the box so the unit isn't starved for air. My understanding is that if the filters are to close to the units intake it will starve the unit of air, making the boxes deeper (bigger) allows for enough clean air to be inside the box as to not starve the unit of air. Thanks for asking about the house. We are settled in the new house, still working on getting the shop up and running. Hopefully I will be posting some new video soon.

    Hey Andersen, great project! I wonder, do you think this system would work well for clamping down bigger objects as well? I can imagine that when the clamping force is applied on a higher point that there will be less friction on the dowel. What are your thoughts on this? Have you tried clamping down bigger objects this way? Cheers!

    • @AndersenWoodCrafts
      @AndersenWoodCrafts 5 місяців тому

      How big are you talking? The 12" clamps should be able to hold down pieces up to 6" (and possibly larger). I'm also not totally sure the purpose of the question, the purpose of most any dog hole clamp is to keep the piece from moving while working on it, not to provide adequate pressure for glue ups. Does this help? Thanks for the comment.

    HELP! I've watched your video, along with several others, to learn about wipe on poly techniques. I'm restoring vintage speakers from the early 80's and so far I've been able to refinish all three vertical sides with ease using similar techniques but the top of the speaker has been an absolute nightmare. I've removed and redone these top surfaces 4-5 times now because once I get beyond 2-3 coats i start getting this white film or fog across the surface and I can't figure what's causing it. I'm not sure if it's due to temperature difference than the vertical sides, the cloth that I'm using which is a cut up white t-shirt. I just can't figure it out. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    That's really nice. But I'd never screw or nail into a tree, it's just lazy and wrong. Rather just use big twist ties or reusable stainless steel zip ties / clamps. Heck, you could even use two bungy cords going through two holes at the top either side and two at the bottom. Only limited by the imagination 😉

    Thank you for the great documentation and the excellent wood work! I just wonder, why you did not glue the top plate onto the frame instead of the bottom plate: The vibration of the strings is transferred by the bridge to the top plate which acts as resonator and therefore should be coupled as tight as possible to the frame in my opinion. And here glueing would be the tighter and more even connection compared to screwing. Or is there any specific reason for your approach which I have oversee? I‘m very interested in learning something new 😊.
