Here is a list of other tools in my shop I used (I am not affiliated with these):
Grizzly G0771Z Hybrid Table Saw www.grizzly.com
Film Masters made some in-depth videos on making an Apprehension Engine, these videos can be found on their UA-cam channel / @filmmasterschannel
A while ago a friend of mine, who is a movie producer/director, asked if I could make a sound box that he saw called “The Apprehension Engine”. This sound box is designed to make weird and kind of unsettling sounds. After some research I found out that this sound box was created by guitar maker Tony Duggan-Smith for film music composer Mark Corven. The box does have some interesting aspects but I didn’t see anything that would be too difficult. I also found a UA-cam channel, Film Masters, that has a 24 video series on building an apprehension engine.
As with most woodworking projects, you can take plans or ideas from others and make it your own. In this Part 1 of making my version of the apprehension engine I am making the frame of the box.

Kirk, I went over to watch those videos you mentioned. Wow! Those were painful. Very painful. I couldn’t make it all the way through them. Got to 14 and had to walk away. Hahaha. I was beginning to feel like I was 8 years old. Painful. I will just wait for your finish product. Much more entertaining and insightful.
Yours is looking great by the way. Looking forward to the next one!

Sorry! As I said in the video his presentation is geared to someone that doesn't even know what a hammer or saw is, but if you can get past his kindergarten presentation they are informative, but yes they are VERY PAINFUL. Thanks for watching and part 2 will be out soon.

Thank you for the great documentation and the excellent wood work! I just wonder, why you did not glue the top plate onto the frame instead of the bottom plate: The vibration of the strings is transferred by the bridge to the top plate which acts as resonator and therefore should be coupled as tight as possible to the frame in my opinion. And here glueing would be the tighter and more even connection compared to screwing. Or is there any specific reason for your approach which I have oversee? I‘m very interested in learning something new 😊.

I'm not an instrument maker, and don't know what the viability of what you're saying is, but it does make sense. And that is one of the reasons I love woodworking, you make it the way you want it. Thanks for your comment and for watching.
