Andrew Shenton - Railway Photography
United Kingdom
Приєднався 4 вер 2013
I’m a railway photographer from the UK, aiming to produce visually interesting images with an alternative take on the UK railway scene, follow my adventures and vlogs looking for rail landscape and cityscapes photographing throughout the UK.
Railway photography is a kind of mix of landscape and street photography, but with the challenge of getting a train in view. Sometimes handheld, sometimes with a tripod, sometimes when the train arrives the light is perfect … sometimes not.

A year since the end of Class 68's on TransPennine - a look back.
Turn up the volume, sit back, and watch 10 minutes of Class 68 on the TransPennine. I can hardly believe it's been a year since the final Class 68 ran on TransPennine services on December 9, 2023. Here's my anniversary look back in photographs and video.
It's also been exactly a year since I last uploaded a video. Keep an eye out, I'm planning a new series of railway photography videos in the new year.

Four-Season Railway Photography Challenge

For my 2023 railway photography project I aimed to seamlessly blend all four seasons into a single, captivating railway photograph. Success in this endeavour hinged on finding the railway location that I could revisit in each season while maintaining an identical composition. Consistency was key to achieving success, with all photographs captured at 24mm from a fixed location that I could easil...

Very nice. One location I think could offer you potential is Sydney Gardens in Bath, i was born in Bath and every time I’m in Bath on holiday (as I currently live in France ), I always make time for Trainspotting at Sydney Gardens and Bath Spa station
Many thanks, yes, I do have a video from Bath, I think it was summer 2023 I had a quick visit when coming up from Devon, I agree a fabulous place and one I do remember seeing photos which I was a child. ua-cam.com/video/wg8tKaFshMQ/v-deo.html
@@AndrewShenton Cheers. 0:30, that bridge is my favorite spot in the park since it offers probably the best view on both sides.
The photos you take are sublime. I’m not sure how to describe it, but they have their own energy and looks to them
Very kind Luke, I do appreciate that.
Hello, which train tracking source do you use please?
Hello Callum, Thanks for the comment, I use a mixture of three websites, www.realtimetrains.co.uk traksy.uk/ and www.railcam.uk/, railcam is a subscription, the others are free.
@AndrewShenton that's great thankyou
Great to see you back, Andrew. Was just on my dinner break and thought I'd watch some old vids of yours only to find that you're back to uploading! A happy new year and looking forward to seeing what's to come.
Many thanks Daniel, thanks for watching, yep, I’ll have a few new videos coming in the next few weeks or so. All the best for 2025 and enjoy your lunch!
That’s what it’s all about! Documenting those moments before it’s all gone. Great video and lessons Andrew, from Indiana
Many thanks, indeed, these locos are sadly missed from the local trains now.
Great to see you back - love this channel
Thank you very much, I really appreciate that comment - all the best for 2025!
Enjoyable vid........keep up the good work..........!
Many thanks, I'll try in the new year, all the best for 2025.
Andrew one word, brilliant
Many thanks Keith.
Where's a Class 124 when you need it? I do find the title a bit misleading, though. I was thinking that this would be a documentary discussing how things have changed over the year since Class 68 operations ended.
Many thanks, documentary is not my style, i'm purley railway photography - thats my passion.
@@AndrewShenton That's fine. It's just that the title is a bit misleading if that is your intention. The term "a look back" is often used by documentaries. I don't know what you could use instead, but I just felt a little confused by your use of the phrase in this particular instance.
@@00Zy99 Appreciated.
I think that Chiltern Railways are to inherit the Class 68 and Mk5 carriages. But why is Transpennine Express not using the Nova 3 stocks anymore. Despite they be keeping the Class 185, Class 802 Nova 1 and Class 397 Nova 2.
Many thanks Andrew, from what I reed it makes some sense for Chiltern to take on the Mk5 stock.
Fantastic to have you back Andrew 🤝
Many thanks, that's appreciated - all the best for the New Year!
My god this was a shock when it popped up on my subs feed Missed you so much Andrew during 2024 I hope your out and about doing vids in 2025
Many thanks, too many distractions in 2024, but for the New Year I'm determine to have some new photography. All the best for 2025.
Welcome back, awesome photos 😁
Really appreciated, many thanks- all the best for the new Year.
Great to see you again.
Thank you very much - all the best for the New Year!
Fabulous video Andrew, what wonderful footage and videos. A sight and sound that’s greatly missed.
Oh, many thanks Simon, its incredible that a year has passed, I do miss the 68 beat, I could hear them from my desk on the line out of Dewsbury, all very dull now.
Lovely sound there. Personally I would have used the Mk5's with some repurposed Class 60's rebuilt for passenger work and 95mph workings. Metra in West Chicago did something similar with the EMD SD70MAC's and made them into 95mph SD70MACH locomotives with HEP to power the passenger cars. Maybe the repurposed Class 60's I would have used would be a Class 62 or a Class 63. Technically a new loco of the Euro 4001 inside a Class 60 shell with everything from the cab interiors, layout and AC tractions being new and I would used the Cummins QSK95 power packs for good measure too. Great video as always mate. I have subbed.
I think that's some ambitious project, it would have been good to see though!
Hes back after 1 year!!!
I am, and I'll have some more videos in 2025, promise!
I am pleased to have found your videos, they are very informative and a pleasure to watch. I am just getting into railway photography, your videos are very inspirational.
Many thanks, Gary, that's really good to know, it's a fantastic hobby and I hope you get plenty of satisfaction from your photography.
Great video as always Andrew, such a shame the 68's have finished.
Many thanks Andy, yes they all too briefly brought some extra excitement to the area.
Brilliant video and welcome back. Sorely missed by tpe commuters like myself 😂
Many thanks, I can well imagine, they were a great train.
So happy to see you back Andrew, the cats will be missed.
Many thanks, yes they will/are. All the best for the New Year.
Very pleased to see one of your videos pop back up in my feed, cheers for the nostalgia hit Andrew, they're still very much missed.
Many thanks, yes I do miss them too, an all to short period of interest and character on the Transpennine, I could feel the reverberations from 68's when at my work desk pounding up the valley from Dewsbury - all the very best to you for 2025!
Its been a while Andrew. Good to see you back. Lets hope the 68s and mark5s come back as well 🙏🏻
Many thanks Ben, yes it's been a while, too many distractions in 2024 but I'll be back next year. I expect the Mk5 stock will surface somewhere. All the best for the New Year!
Hi Andrew good to see you. Thanks for this compilation, great video and images!
Many thanks, all the very best for the New Year.
So good to have you back in the seat again Andrew very much missed by us all. Hope you produce loads more videos for next year. Thank you .
Many thanks Ian, I really do appreciate that, I'm more determined than ever to get back out photographing and filming in 2025. All the very best for the New Year.
Hi Andrew, great collection of videos & photography, have great Christmas & best wishes for 25, 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Many thanks, Mark, that's really appreciated, all the best for the New Year!
Have to say I found the 68s unusually ugly, even in an era of poor design. Your photos of them were better than the train/traction/units in real life.
Interesting, the 68's did have some character, they briefly brought some interest to the railway, turning heads and getting noticed. All the best for the New Year.
It’s really good to see you back again Andrew. I’ve really missed your excellent videos and portraits!
Many thanks Ian, that's really appreciated. All the very best wishes for 2025.
great to see you again!
Many thanks - all the best for 2025.
@AndrewShenton you too!
Good to see you back Andrew and looking forward to seeing some great images in 2025
Thank you, Robert, yes i'm keen to get going again, hopefully 2025 produces the goods. Have a great New Year all the best for 2025.
Nice to see you back mate
Thank you very much, I'll be back with more videos and photography in 2025.
Really enjoyed that. Thanks.
Appreciated,Ian. All the best for the New Year.
@ All the best to you too Andrew, Happy New Year!
What a fine set of clips and images you've captured and shown here, very well produced. I look forward to seeing more of your work in 2025.
Many thanks Peter, I'm hoping to get out and about in the new year, so hopefully some new photography and videos on offer, thanks for your ongoing support and all the best for the New Year and 2025, Regards Andrew.
Welcome back Andrew, been much missed. Looking forward to your new upcoming videos....
Really appreciated, the comments have blown me away. I've had too many distractions this past year, but I'm now looking forward to getting the new video ideas produced.
Great video. Are class 68s a train symbol or a type of locomotive or something else.
It’s the locomotive.
@davidgriffiths954 😥
Many thanks, I see your question is already answered, the 68's were and are the locomotive, there are so few passenger trains now hauled by locomotives.
excellent to see one of your superb videos, an early Christmas present! and your photographs are an absolute pleasure to look at 📸
Many thanks indeed, hopefully you had a good Christmas and all the best for the New Year and 2025.
Good to see you back although admittedly they hasn’t been a reyt lot happening on this side to go out for.
Many thanks, Rob, 2024 was a lean year for various reasons, hoping for better next year, Have a great New Year and 2025, Regards Andrew
Glad to see you back with another video Andrew
Many thanks, Chris, that's appreciated, look out in the new year, i've new videos in the planning.
Welcome back sir
Many thanks, there'll be more new ones in the new year.
Good to see you back, Andrew. A very fitting epitaph for the TP 68s and Mk5 stock. Last time I was at York there were Deltics running to KX...
Many thanks Peter, these wee the closes thing we've had to the Deltics, under the roof at York, there were echoes of the past. Many thanks, Have a Great New Year.
Good video, the Mk5s should never have been built. It would have made more sense for TPE to have a uniform fleet, although when did common sense ever prevail on Britain’s railways.
Many thanks, indeed, we shall never understand the logic, if there ever is logic to the decisions. have a great New Year.
Welcome back missed your video's
Many thanks Ian, I'm looking forward to getting more photography and videos produced in the new year.
Absolutely sublime! Thank you for your creativity.
Great, many thanks
A nice look back on an interesting and somewhat puzzling period of railway history. Thank you for bringing us this portfolio of your work during those years Andrew. Does leave you thinking though, doesn’t it, all that investment, for what? Railway economics is hard to fathom at the best of times. Anyway, good to see you back and Merry Christmas! Looking forward to more in 2025…..
Many thanks, Steve, yes it demonstrates such a waste of time and resource and such a shame because the 68's briefly brought back some drama and excitement to the railway. Thanks have a great New Year.
It’s so good to have you back! You’ll never know what good timing this is. Can’t wait for all the video’s! ☺️🤙
Many thanks, I've a few videos ideas bubbling away and i'll be back in the new year.
Wow, it's been a long time. Welcome back.
Many thanks Andrew, yes, it's been a year, but I'll be back doing more videos in 2025.
@@AndrewShenton looking forward to it. Merry Christmas Andrew.
Happy to see you again🎉
Many thanks, I'm lining up some new videos for the new year , so keep a watch out.
As others have said, good to have you back
Many thanks Nigel, keep an eye out in the new year for some new videos and photography.
nice to see you again andrew i was only watching some of your video,s yesterday and wondering where you are and what your doing , will you be making more video,s if so try belper in derbyshire it has lots of great locations
Many thanks, yes, I'll be back in 2025, I've just had too many distractions this year, interesting you mention Belper, I've got that on my to do list including Belper and the Derwent Valley.
Nice video Andrew, good to see you again. Why have the taken off the class 68 service.?
Many thanks, I don't think there's a simple answer, political, cost saving, operation issues with too many train types, noise complaints?
