- An LNER Intercity 225, Traffic Light Trails & Photoshop editing. A cold hour above a dual Carriageway in inner city Leeds, I do get to some stunning railway photography locations! Anyway, an idea to try to re-create a similar image to one I took a few years ago in the same location -

Last time it was Virgin running the East Coast Main Line, now its LNER, now I tried to think of a clever title using the acronym of LNER but ran out of ideas for the R
L - Light Trails
N - Night Time Photography
E - Editing
R - (Can't think of anything?)
This Video includes Photoshop and Lightroom editing, the UA-cam watch time statistics will tell me if anybody is interested in the editing part.

The paused traffic clips are brilliant. Another belter andrew
Many thanks, I had fun doing that, and quietly pleased that it worked.
Full of tricks and skulduggery in the filming of this, all makes for a very enjoyable watch, many thanks.
Thanks Peter, I did have fun with that one.
This wasn't a waste of time Andrew. I really enjoyed watching it. Me and my partner always sit and watch your videos whenever you upload. It's like our little religion to watch your videos.
All the best take care, Will and Devon
Many thanks Will & Devon, I'm pleased you watch the videos, I've a few in the pipeline so hopefully the religion can continue, the next one will be from Yarm in North Yorkshire, out next week. Regards Andrew
I have not seen the one on how you keep walking but stop the traffic, clever that one.
Yeah that was amazing!
Many thanks!
Thanks Peter, I've a few ideas for some more camera tricks, you'll have to watch out!
Image is fine Andrew. Enjoy watching your process.
Thanks 👍 Dan, really appreciated.
Great insight Andrew - thanks! I hadn't seen the trick with the soundtrack before, clever!!!
Very welcome Brian, many thanks.
Definitely a worth while image and I enjoyed watching you edit it. It's given me some pointers for my own images. Thank you
Great to hear and glad you got something out of it.
I really like the image Andrew. As others note, a painstaking process, however, well worth it in my opinion. I can find my way around Lightroom reasonably well, but do struggle with PS! Note to self: use it more often to get familiar with it!
Thanks for taking the time to show us how you make such wonderful images, Cheers, Andy
Many thanks Andy, I do enjoy the processing work in the virtual darkroom, I use Lightroom for probably 90% of my images, I only dive into photoshop when merging, blending or image manipulation, Its a beast of a program and I guess I only use a fraction of its capabilities. Regards Andrew
Hey Andrew, here's a good trick to get focus on the train in LR. Use the radial tool on the train, invert it and lower the texture and clarity. You can also lower the saturation, but not to a point that it becomes too obvious. It's a good trick to lead the viewer's eye to the spot that you want.
Many thanks, I'll give that one a try, I use the radial tool in the majority of edits to focus the the eye, but not as you suggest.
Excellent Andrew, now what impresses me is your stopping of the traffic in the video, especially the sound, very clever indeed. lovely edit....
Many thanks, Martyn, I did have fun implementing this one.
Loved how you stopped the traffic, great video
Many thanks, Simon, I had a bit of fun planning and implementing that and I was really pleased that it worked!
Mega stuff Andrew!
Many thanks.
Another superb video, your editing is just next level, keep up the great work and can’t wait for the next one!
Many thanks David, I do enjoy the editing and image processing when back home in the virtual darkroom.
Thanks for sharing Andrew! Really interesting to see your approach to realising this stunning image. The latest versions of Lightroom/Photoshop have some powerful editing tools - food for thought, for sure. Putting the nearest lamp standard dead centre in the Composition is a defining detail for me. Very well done. Cheers, Tom.
Many thanks, Tom, as you know I do enjoy the Lightroom and Photoshop image processing the challenge is always getting an image or an idea to make it worthwhile.
Fascinating, must give something like this a try!
You should, Mark G had a shot at this technique, just need a railway and ideally a busy wet road.
A up your back about time sir nice video again
Thanks 👍
Another great video Andrew, glad I found your channel and love looking through all the videos
Awesome, thank you, Steve, I've plenty of ideas for more videos through the year.
Ah Leeds tunnels, dark arches. Takes me back to a lad when my dad used to work for British rail, all that space was used for BR and their crews back then..
The photo turned out lovely mate, all I would say is I'd like to see a version with the sky darker and slightly more gray? You probably would lose the trees but the loco would probably stand out that but more ?
Many thanks, yes, I guess I could have pushed the sky a little darker, I'm still not convinced the train isn't lost in the image.
@@AndrewShenton yes I know what you mean mate, have you considered increasing the light and temperature of the train? Then over laying it again?
Looking forward to your next video!
If you ever fancy shooting a motorcycle then let me know!
All this time since the new year I’ve been blaming Leeds City Council for the horrendous traffic around Leeds and it’s actually you stopping it with a simple click!!!
Ah, very good Rob, if only I had the powers that would be amazing.
What I like about your videos is that you take awesome photos and then mash them together to make an amazing picture. I couldn't even take a decent picture of a train, let alone three great shots of railway bridge over a busy main road
Wow, thank you!
How absolutely amazing! Glad to see my favourite trains featured here. Brilliant video as usual.
Many thanks!
Thanks for sharing your "Dark Arts", Andrew. You wouldn't get me stuck on that narrow footbridge though...
Just a couple of thoughts:
1. Does it give the impression that trains are slow and road traffic is quicker? Wonder if it'd work with the train blurred and the traffic static.
2. As you'll know, you actually caught the driving trailer of the 225, rather than the 91. Have you got a shot of one going the other way, to capture the loco?
Regards as ever.
Thanks Peter, I was conscious of give the impression the train was stationary, there's possibility of stopping the traffic and then motion blur on the train - maybe one for another time.
The 91 end didn't look as good, if I caught the 91 to the left there was too much open space on the bridge, to the right and it was lost as a going away shot, never easy is it. Regards Andrew
So interesting Andrew thanks for sharing this. We take that bridge for granted. But great photos and composition. So looking forward to the next video thank you
Glad you enjoyed it Adrian, not a great spot during the day, but the lights and traffic make the spot into something more interesting.
Fascinating stuff Andrew. It's amazing the time you put into one image. The hanging around on the bridge from day to dusk and then all time working on the software. Your persistence and patience is admirable. All the best. Ben
Glad you enjoyed it, sometimes I just go out and do the one image if I've something specific in mind.
For me the photo looks great, but isn’t up there in your top photos. I think it could be because there are two subjects, the car lights are the first thing you see, then you pick out the train, which I find the more interesting subject later. Even when looking at the train the car lights still catch my eye because of the brightness, and them being such a large amount of the image. I think what I would personally prefer is more train, and the lights as more of a background. I’m not anywhere near your level of skill in photography, so that might not be the issues. That said I really enjoyed watching the video and learning the tricks. The traffic stopping really made me smile.
Many thanks for your considered comments there Daniel, always tricky, not every image works, this one isn't one of my favourite, but it plants seeds of ideas and hopefully we all learn something.
Wow, I wish I had half the skills you have with the Adobe Creative Suite. You've inspired me to get a little more creative now!
Go for it Sean, there are loads of tutorials on UA-cam, and I could spend the rest of my time watching, I've taken what others have done with street and landscapes and tried to apply it to railway photography.
