- Photographing a couple of LNER Azuma trains in some stunning Scottish scenery just south of Stirling, Stirling Castle makes a fantastic backdrop for railway photography. Running on electric all the way from London the LNER Azuma will switch to diesel in Stirling Station after running on the electrified section from Edinburgh.
I managed to photograph a northbound and southbound Azuma along with a surprise DRS Class 66 on a very early running freight train.
You can view all the images from this UA-cam Railway photography adventure on my website andrewshenton....

Awesome backdrop. Scotland is a incredible country.
Couldn't agree more! Andrew
Great little video Andrew. We are all so lucky that we didn't have to wait long from your last one. Thank you and can't wait till the next one.
Glad you enjoyed it Ian, I'm just getting the next video lined up which will be an evening on York Station.
Excellent video. What a skill in timing that first Azuma image between the overheads!
Thank you very much, Simon, I took a long burst as the Azuma hit around that spot, this was my only chance of getting a clear view, thankfully one just about did it.
Thank you for your dedication Andrew to wait for so few trains and hopefully get the perfect shot 👍🏻
Thanks Ben, thank goodness for sites like Real Time Trains, I didn’t have to hang about too long knowing when there’s not much running.
Great pictures Andrew and the Stirling Castle shot in sunlight was excellent.
Cheers Kev
Thank you, moments earlier the whole hillside was illuminated, but just having the castle lit was quite a consolation prize, probable worked out better than i’d imagined.
Top stuff, great to see freights that far North
Thanks Mark, I was luck to catch that freight, I'd planned to get it in the morning but it ran hours early, so fortunately the return ran really early too.
Another very enjoyable presentation Andrew. Those distant views of the castle and hills are a great backdrop. Challenging light though, all part of the fun!!!?!!
Glad you enjoyed it Steve, its all part of the fun for the railway photographer, there's always luck required in getting the perfect lighting to align with a trains arrival.
Another great vid sir
I appreciate that John, many thanks.
I have been falling behind with watching your vids Andy. This is well up to your usual standard.
No worries Eddie, thanks for the support bud.
Great photos as usual you do some travelling about 😀👍
Many thanks Michael, I certainly did some travelling that weekend - not just to do this video though.
Brilliant Video, I do love Scotland and Stirling is a wonderful place, that's one of the reasons why I didn't stay in Scotland on a Sunday was due to the strikes. Looking forward to the next one
Thanks so much Simon, yes I really enjoyed visiting Stirling, a lovely city, but as you say rather frustrating that no trains ran on the Sunday - which was actually the best day for weather.
My hometown! I've found you via Flickr after finding you wearmouth bridge photo. Enjoying your content.
Ps that road isn't the best for walking on as the footpath disappears, hope you took care!
Thanks Dan, interesting how folk find the content, I hope you enjoy the behind the camera video work of my railway photography. For the couple of Stirling Shots I pulled off the road, I did notice there’s no footpath and didn't fancy standing on the road edge.
Been looking forward to this since you announced it earlier :)
Thanks so much, all being well the next video will be along next week
