  • The Summits of Slochd and Pass of Drumochter on the Highland Mainline are visited on this latest railway photography adventure. A couple of Scotrail trains pass at each spot along with a GBRF 66743 working the Royal Scotsman train down the Highland Mainline.
    The two summits are Slochd at 1315 feet (401m) above sea level and the highest point on the UK mainline network at Pass of Drumochter 1484 feet (452m) above sea level.
    I did have a camera setting failure - Tip don't use Silent Shutter on the Canon EOS-R if you are photographing anything fast moving - the results will be useless.
    You can view all the images from this UA-cam Railway photography adventure on my website andrewshenton....

    Andrew, have you ever thought about the Severn Valley Railway ? Runs by the River Severn, lotsa lush scenery and steam trains thrown in !

    • @AndrewShenton
      @AndrewShenton  Рік тому

      Many thanks, I visited the Severn valley a couple of years ago (2019 I think), didn't do any photography though, so I guess I should think about another visit.

      Many thanks, Simon, yes, a real bonus getting the Royal Scotsman and such a pity I’d get that camera setting - anyway theres always next time!

      Many thanks, Ben, no shortage of stunning locations but with fairly limited time I thought I’d just limit to the two summits.

    Great video Andrew, as always. I wonder how many other viewers were shouting at the screen like me when you said "there's a GBRf coming from Aviemore, I wonder what that is?" - the Royal Scotsman of course!

      @AndrewShenton  Рік тому

      Many thanks indeed, Nigel, I did wonder if it might be the Royal Scotsman, but what threw me was the destination - something like Perth Down Goods Loop or something bizarre, honestly I didn’t know if it was!

    Good video Andrew, lots of good useful information as well, all handy for our visit next year. We stayed at Pitlochry last time but really needed to be more coastal such as at Plockton near Kyle. Regards Peter

    Another great insight to your hobby, i wonder what the little hut was for.

    • @AndrewShenton
      @AndrewShenton  Рік тому

      Many thanks, Peter, I suspect the hut would be a Platelayers hut, for the trackworkers on this section to shelter and get warm by the coal fire - all in another age.

    Certainly made your photographs a little more interesting in that setting. Lol. Nice shot of the royal. Have you emigrated north now. Thought had moved into that little house. Only joking.

      Thanks Keith, I won’t be using the silent shutter setting, not for railways anyway. Back in England now, these were from a trip around Scotland a few weeks ago. One more Scottish video to come though.
