Greatest railway journey in the world? - Jacobite Steam Train

- The Jacobite steam train runs through one of the most scenic railway locations in the country, if not the world, on this video I hunt out a few locations in the Scottish West Highlands to photograph the Jacobite steam train running between Mallaig and Fort William. There's a couple of Scotrail class 156 trains running too. Taking in Mallaig, Morar, Beasdale Bank Lochailort and joining the Harry Potter fans for a view of the famous Glenfinnan Viaduct.
You can view all the images from this UA-cam Railway photography adventure on my website andrewshenton....
Jacobite Steam Train
That must be a world far far beyond the universe, really filmed on earth? This is an emotional nature and any trains you're catching there makes it completely☺️☺️☺️👌
This part of Scotland is so magical, stunning scenery and steam trains during the summer, what could be better.
That panno worked out well Andrew, the whole film was a joy to watch.
It was a joyful day, a lovely location to enjoy the kind weather.
Get this man to 1k subs! What an excellent video as always
Many thanks for your support, Pete, its greatly appreciated.
Very enjoyable Andrew, the sound of a steam loco working hard is both unique. As for the scenery, some of the best in the UK.
Many thanks, Andy, there were some sections where the steam really had to work, with two steam trains running, it's quite an impressive schedule in the most stunning scenery.
Brilliant vlog, from a magnificent part of Scotland. Thank you for sharing
My pleasure, Martyn, its on the list to return - loved it up there.
Always a treat to see your efforts, Andrew. Pity about the van on the road at 3:35 on otherwise deserted roads... I'd be inclined to photoshop it out on the photo. My once (and only) trip along this line was in August 1971; slightly different motive power then and I never took any photos😒😒
You really must do a video to show how you get the characteristic "edge" to your photos, that "lift" the scene on dull days.
Many thanks, Peter, that was very observant of you to spot the van, I normally don’t Photoshop things out, I try to missing the unwanted in composition or it editing by darkening an area, but on this one I think you’re right and easy one just to remove. I was thinking whilst up here how I’d have loved to see the line in the ’70’s with a Class 26 on a few Mk1’s. I might do an editing tutorial at some point, but no plans in the immediate.
I used to be very, very against photoshopping anything out of an image, Andrew. But over the years I've mellowed and now feel that anything transient, such as a piece of wind-blown litter, a vehicle on a road, or even a person, is fair game to be removed if it "spoils" or detracts from the overall image. After all, our composition is a way we naturally frame things that we don't want to include in the picture.
Thanks for another interesting and informative video at another stunning location with your usual high quality photos.
Many thanks, Matthew, that's appreciated.
Andrew, excellent again thank you. Superb work especially with the viaduct shot. Looking forward to watching again on the big screen (rather than my laptop) when I am allowed access to the smart TV! Cheers Darren
Cheers Darren, hope you managed to book your slot on the TV!!
Fantastic photos and videos and what fantastic places thanks for sharing
Many thanks, I really enjoyed the time up here, stunning location.
Lovely filming not easy to get to some spots up there. Brilliant video and photos thanks for the share Andrew. Love your posts
Thank you, Adrian, fortunately the road mostly follows the line, but with very limited places to stop a few of the spots did involve a bit of a hike - not complaining though.
Spectacular photos. The stitching of shots for the last photograph was impressive.
Thank you so much 😀 Dan, I think it would have been even better if the loco wasn't running tender first.
@@AndrewShenton an excuse to go back in the future 🙂
Never been on the Fort William to Mallaig line but photos and videos I've see it is stunning. Brilliant Video and really enjoyed it and some stunning scenery
Many thanks Simon, I didn’t manage a trip on the line, but its one for the bucket list, plus, I think I’ll be back up here at some point its just so spectacular, like nowhere else on the mainline network.
Great video Andrew . One of your finest
Thank you kindly Ian.
I was on that stretch of coast in April 22 on route to Skye. I need to revisit to try my hand at photographing the Jacobite. Saw it at Fort William then again at Mallaig waiting on the ferry.
Loved the film.
Thanks again, it's a stunning part of the world and I'd love to be back there right now!
Hi Andrew fabulous videos of the steam train just loved it.
Really pleased you liked it , many thanks.
Ah Andrew, just some beautiful comps there and what a bit of luck getting the jacker in too !
Many thanks, I can now see why the Jacobite is booked up solid!
Fantastic video and fantastic still photographs. Subscribed!
Thanks for the sub, that's really appreciated and I hope you find something of interest.
I do enjoy all your videos Andrew but I have to say this is the best yet
Many thanks, this was a location I really enjoyed, could have done with a few more trains though.
Certainly spreading your wings. You got some great shots; as always Andrew. Caught all the magic and mystery that this line conjures up in your video. Hope you are well. Keep up the good work. Your going to be stuck for somewhere to photograph after this location. 🙂
Many thanks, Keith, yep, its a location that's going to take some beating.
I love your videos as you choose some stunning locations and the shots you get are excellent.
Looking forward to many more.
Cheers Kev

Another fab video Andrew. Well Worth the long trip.
Glad you enjoyed it Martin, the journey was broken up into little adventures, so not as daunting as a single journey.
Andrew love all your videos and i have been to many of the locations featured. Love this area of west scotland and i will be back next year asap, keep em coming
Many thanks, Paul, yes, a new favourite location for me too, I’ll certainly be back at some point.

Fantastic video
Thanks again Jim.
Nice video Andrew
Thank you Michael, that's appreciated.
Another brill vid......well done that man
Appreciate that, many thanks
Now you’re talking! Love the West Highland Lines. Another great video Andrew, some wonderful shots there. I like the way that choose your shots, making use of what props are there. I try to do the same, with varying levels of success! Anyway, hope you didn’t get bitten too badly….
Many thanks, Steve, fortunately I didn’t get bitten, but the trousers tucked into my socks is not a good look.
Great vid again sir
Appreciate that John, many thanks.
Great video! I am pleased to say that I am your 1,000th subscriber!
Brilliant many thanks for making that milestone, I hope you stick around and find something interesting.
Great video as usual Andrew . I need to visit so I can pinch your joke.
You should!! Go tomorrow
What incredible locations, thanks for sharing. I know it's an iconic steam train, so I probably shouldn't say I really like the wall shot with the 156!
Many thanks, Stuart, if honest I’m more of a modern image man myself too.
Andrew what a great video. I love how you get the idea to do unusual but fascinating photos. No need to comment on the scenery. Its simply stunning.
Many thanks, Ben, really appreciated.
Beautiful scenery and excellent videography, thanks Andrew!
My pleasure, glad you enjoyed it - a wonderfully scenic part of the world.
I always get excited to watch your videos. Inspirational and enjoyable. Brilliant
Happy to hear that!
What an amazing selection of locations, truly beautiful. I'm looking forward to seeing if you have anymore videos from Scotland
Many thanks, I’ve a couple more from the trip around Scotland, one looking at the summits on the Highland Mainline and another at Blair Athol, I just need to pull my finger out and get them edited.
@@AndrewShenton I love Blair Athol! I'll be keeping an eye out for it 👍
Another brilliant video Andrew, its a long time since I was up there and it's nice to see some different locations, It' a pity they are not able to turn the loco at Mallaig.
Glad you enjoyed it, turning the loco at Mallaig would certainly make for more photo opportunities.
Should have read Holbeck!
You’ll have to explain this one to me i’m affraid.
Sorry Andrew from watching your videos I guessed you were from around Leeds area and when I lived up there thought there was a depot at Holbeck, never mind!
