Blink and you'll miss 'em - the five bridges of Dungass Burn - Railway Photography

- Is this a good spot for railway photography? Driving north along the A1 just over the Scottish border, this is one of those blink and you miss it locations. Two impressive structures are glimpsed for a moment, the old 1932 reinforced concrete A1 bridge, now redundant, then the 1836 Dunglass Viaduct, built by the North British Railway in 1836 for the Berwick to Edinburgh line.
Visible is an old crossing called the new Bridge, build in 1798 to replace a much earlier bridge.
Anyway the stop was to photography trains, plenty of LNER Azuma and other East Coast Main Line traffic, pity the weather was so poor.
Oh, I never did find the fifth bridge.
You can view all the images from this UA-cam Railway photography adventure on my website andrewshenton....
Short and sweet but full of detail and passion! Thank you Andrew for this fascinating interlude from the A1. You just never know what opportunities there are until you explore. Great shots!
Many thanks, Steve, glad I stopped, its so easy to just drive by, there were numerous spots along this line that would make a great phot opportunity.
Great video, imagine the autumnal colours with a bit of morning sun aswell.
Thanks Rob, do you know that's what I was thinking, I was hoping the sun would break through the murk, but no joy.
I really Iile all the bridges Andrew and the trains as a bonus
Many thanks, that old A1 bridge is quite a structure.
Fantastic video and some stunning images. I don’t remember having previously seen any images taken there. I particularly like the view with the elegant concrete bridge in the foreground.
Many thanks Simon, the old concrete A1 bridge does make a super bit of foreground interest, its not a spot I’d seen photographed either, not much on Flickr too.
Brilliant Andrew a lovely short video. Thank you for sharing with us.
Many thanks Adrian, my pleasure.
Another brilliant video! Amazing find there, and some luck with that puddle at the end.
Thanks, the puddle did come in useful, even more lucky I managed to stop a train in the right place on the reflection shot.
Great stuff! Well done as always Andrew!
Thanks again Andy!
Some great shots there Andrew, well done.
Many thanks indeed, a lucky break in the journey.
What a brilliant video them bridges are ace matey
Thanks John, quite a surprise really, somewhere thats so easy to miss right next to the A1
Lovely location, some of the shots are epic
Many thanks Simon, quite an interesting location that I'd not seen before.

Ah been there before , near torness
Spot on, I drove past the power station a couple of times, with better weather there’d be some great photo opportunities to include the power station and coast.
fantastic video as per
Many thanks for your support.
@@AndrewShenton my pleasure, hope you're well
Good video Andrew, you obviously have an eye for spotting items of interest on a map. Hope the hols were good and as you may have seen I made Woodlesford for 3 minutes. Regards Peter
Many thanks Peter, I've not seen your Woodlesford trip, where have you posted the image?
I sent an email on the 19th.... I literally had 30 seconds to visit on the way to St Aidans and various other places around Leeds
Andrew, so pleased you told us that you are passionate about railway photography - we would never have guessed!!!! As ever, a great escape from all this political crap. Well done.
Thanks Brian, agreed, we do need something to distract ourselves from the pantomime thats life at the moment.
Great video. Love all your different and unique shots you make. What type of camera do you use? Keep up the great work.
Many thanks Ryan, appreciated. I'm using a Canon EOS-R a Mirrorless DSLR.
Excellent stuff, are we getting some Scottish freight and even a 37 as you go North?
Many thanks Mark, I cant promise Class 37's but there could be a Highland freight at some point coming up.
Great video.... but are you allowed to just stand on the side of the A1 🤣
Thanks Emma, Who knows? although it did feel a little precarious at times, it must have been OK though because Sharon was fairly relaxed.
Lovely video mate, would love to collab one day
Many thanks, I'm sure we'll bump into each other at some point.
@@AndrewShenton hope we do mate, have a lovely day
