- LNER Azuma trains whizzing along at 125mph was my intended railway photography subject, but quite a number of freight locomotives and freight trains got in on the action too.
Photographing LNER Hitachi Class 800 Azuma trains on the East Coast Main Line (ECML) on the High-Speed Selby Diversion around Hambleton Junction was my subject, an hour or so as the autumn sunset gave quite a few locomotives too. Surprisingly three class 60’s a few class 66’s and even a class 73 locomotive got in on the action.
You can view all the images from this UA-cam Railway photography adventure on my website andrewshenton....

That 66 on the biomass in the setting sun is truly excellent: another great vlog.
Thanks again John, that one really was a surprise bonus.
Another very enjoyable video, very well produced and withe great photography. Keep them coming!
Thank you, I will, I do fancy exploring the Selby diversion more, the concrete structures do have a charm of sorts.
My favourite one is at 4:45. I'll second Ian's request for more please Andrew.
Thanks Peter, yes that sunset was a surprise bonus - noted the comment for more videos!
Awesome stuff yet again Andrew; these LNER Azumas are so photogenic. As for the "gap" shot, that is the kind of desperate proposition I often find myself going for, yet rarely end up with a result as successful as yours!
Cheers Tom, agree the Azumas do photograph well - as for the gap shot, that one was the only usable frame and really it was a fluke, the burst speed is just too slow for my liking on the EOS-R.
Well you got the one you wanted and it is very good as well.
Thanks Peter, It was just a Sunday afternoon to see what was passing really, and I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of activity for a Sunday - plus I came away with a couple of pleasing images which is always a bonus.
Andrew what can I say. Fantastic and informative as always. Great to see the 3 different locos on the GBRf move. Always good to catch the Lackenby - Scunny steel as well, what a result with the engineers and light loco passing each other as well👍🏻
Many thanks Ben, not bad for a Sunday afternoon, there's more variety than during a weekday.
Brilliant shots Andrew, great video
Many thanks Pete, glad you enjoyed.
Hi Andrew. I have one big problem with your videos ......... Not enough of them . Lol. You need to do one a week to feed our passion please . Great videos every one of them. Keep them coming.
Thanks Ian, to be honest nothing would please me more than being out photographing and uploading videos every week, but there's that annoying thing called life that gets in the way, although I have slacked recently.
Great photos as usual 😀👍
Many thanks Michael - appreciated.
Brilliant as always Andrew.
Thank you I'm pleased you've enjoyed the outing.
Nice video. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching! glad you've enjoyed it.
@@AndrewShenton Great and thanks very much for replying to my comment. I have a new video out now on the update of my layout plus a special remembrance too.. Hope you like and share.
Brilliant, wouldn’t mind a trip to film trains around the Selby Diversion area, some lovely movements as well
Cheers Simon, if you’re ever up this way drop me a note and I’ll show you the sights.
I was on the ecml on Monday. Clay Lane round the south bend at Newark Northgate. Lovely little spot, recommend it
I do fancy getting some ECML action at some point - possibly getting the Class 91’s in the new colours, I’ll keep this one in mind.
@@AndrewShenton im at Doncaster tomorrow if you're free
Another good video,I was in York for that GB convoy and would you believe it was full dull when it passed through, amazing for the amount off sun we had that day,you just couldn’t make it up.
RTT also have GB allocated locos added to them if you ever wonder what the working is.
That was unlucky with the sun Rob, that one caught me of guard, I thought it was going to be a solitary Class 66 and never thought to look at RTT. I use Railcam when out and about, sometime the loco numbers get entered on the Railcam info, I must use RTT more often now there's quite a number of numbers added.
LNER Azumas are very fast.
Another great video :)
Thanks again! really pleased you enjoyed it.
@@AndrewShenton I always enjoy the videos, you make the process of photographing extremely engaging and interesting
The one between the bridges worked out well and i too look forward to your next adventure. Thanks for your hard work Andrew.
Glad you enjoyed it Peter, the shot between the bridges worked out better than I imagined, although that was the only frame that was useable - the burst frame rate on the EOS-R is painfully slow - my biggest complaint with the camera - everything else is spot on.
Impressive photographs and an inspirational video . In particular the first Azuma shot is fantastic. Thanks for sharing Andrew.
Thanks Nicholas, glad you enjoyed it. I really didn't think I'd get a useable shot, the burst frame rate is disappointingly slow on the Canon EOS-R - my main criticism of the camera.
A very enjoyable session on the “new” ECML Andrew. Not an area I’m familiar with. Thank you again for bringing us another entertaining video, in lovely autumnal sunshine too!
Many thanks Steve, I enjoy getting over to this bit of line, there's usually something interesting running in between the expresses.
Amazing pictures Andrew, love the one you caught between the two bridges, you have a great eye.
Many thanks! that particular one did work out better than I'd imagined.
Great stuff again, was that a class 73 you missed with the other 2? Did you get a shot of the light engine approaching the rear engine of the engineers train. I’m no photographer but that may have made a good snap.
Thanks Mark, it was a Class73 on the back, I should have been more prepared to get that. I did get a shot of the two trains passing, but the alignment of the overheads didn't work, it might be one I have to do a bit of work with to make presentable.
Excellent video as usual Andrew, really enjoyed watching it. Just curious though how do you get to the second location? I've been to the 1st location (Field Lane near Gateforth?) before to photo ECML traffic, but the 2nd location looks good for all the freight traffic too!
Thanks very much, the footbridge is fairly easy to get to - from Hambleton village take Station Road, Scalm Lane over the level crossing then under the Leeds - Selby line - there’s then a public footpath to the bridge.
Hi Andrew, another great video! Can I ask what you use to track what trains are coming along the line?
Thanks Chris, I use www.railcam.uk/ for the track diagrams and train workings, but I need to pay more attention to www.realtimetrains.co.uk too. Railcam is a small subscription but there are other track diagrams available traksy.uk/live
@@AndrewShenton Thanks Andrew!
