  • You wouldn't believe the lengths I go to to get ‘that’ Railway Photograph, in this video I think I’ve taken a never before seen shot, I did have to hold on tight to my camera though!
    A hot summer’s evening’s railway photography, photographing trains on the Transpennine rail line near Ravensthorpe, Mirfield and Dewsbury, featuring two fantastic Grade II-listed cast iron railway Girder bridges on the old L&NW Railway line at Ravensthorpe near Dewsbury in West Yorkshire.
    Bridge Details
    The first bridge over River Calder, dated from 1847 constructed for the L & NWR Co. by Joseph Butler & Co. Stanningley Iron Works, Leeds for the Huddersfield to Leeds line, which opened in 1848. The bridge has two identical spans on large rusticated abutments and a centre pier. The span is in cast iron with 6 arched cast-iron girders the spandrels of which are in the form of a gothic arcade.
    The second is an almost identical bridge, but a single span over the Calder & Hebble Navigation, Long Cut. I managed a railway shot I’ve never before seen of trains crossing the canal.

    The lengths you go to! I really need to push the boundaries with my own efforts. Hanging off the edge of the canal bank is a brave thing to do but the results were worth it. Great video Andrew, inspiring as always.

      Cheers, Sim0n, there’s a limit to what I’d do, never to put myself or others in danger - that's the sensible message out of the way - it’s always good to experiment, and look for that creative angle thats what keeps me interested and challenged.

    Another great video and super shot at the end. What a shame most ‘trains’ are what we termed in the eighties ‘bug units’ oh for some proper loco hauled stuff

    • @AndrewShenton
      @AndrewShenton  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks Mark, I know exactly what you mean, I'd have loved to have the means and camera gear in the '80's, isn't there a saying the trains reducing interest is inversely proportional to the camera technology improvement - or something like that.

      @@AndrewShenton In the last week we got back from the Derbyshire & Yorkshire. Amazing views in that part of the world and shows how much beauty this country has and we don’t see it. Yorks national railway museum was amazing. Our home area of Suffolk lacks what what the north has to view and having worked within the Railway logistics industry for the past 17 years I would have thought my love would have faded, well York have sparked a new fire. Your work seems rewarding and when I get time I may follow your lead. Keep the great content flowing!

      I must say, I’m very fortunate living in Yorkshire, there is so much variety, from the bright lights of the cities to the rural beauty, all within easy reach. Yes I do find railway photography incredibly rewarding, it allows me to follow my interest in railways but also allows an avenue to be creative, and I think we all need that bit of creativity and escape from normal life. Glad you enjoyed your time up north.
