In this video watch as I try to disassemble the loco to see if I can repair it without taking too much apart. Also hopefully, I won't be frustrated too much with a difficult fix. Thank you,its running well, one of the pickup retaining plastic nodules came off but a dab of superglue sorted that😊.It dates from 1968 .
I have this set, and it is a great set, much more fun than most of the sets of the last three decades, IMHO.
I'm with you on this, these old items still give a lot of fun and enjoyment. Best regards to you
I've got a few three rail sets and I think they are superb to play with, This set looks to have everything the 3 rail stuff has and more. You don't need to program CVs for simulating inertia, as these locos have it for real!
I think you are right, the weight of these certainly helps keep them moving. Best regards to you
These sets are superb fun. First radius and you can run this sort of train. I post lo-fi vods of my sets on my channel. I have several 3 rail sets and they are so much fun. The sound they make is really good as well.
It's great to hear you have fun with your 3 Rail sets. They are great items. All the best to you
Great job.... Fitting a plug between the two small locos is a really good idea? We often "Double head"two of these together, for better adhesion and running through points, but actually wiring them together is much smoother, as neither motor falters at all.. Brilliant move !! The load that they are able to haul is really quite amazing. They seem to be capable of running at a slower speed than would be possible, if they were just simply coupled together too? A very enjoyable video. Thank you..
Thanks for watching this. To get smooth slow running was precisely why I wired these together and it does work well. I might experiment making a wagon with pickups to try. All the best to you
Another successful experiment rom the workshops of Mr. Snooze. The running of both trains did have an hypnotic effect, very relaxing. Hope you are well. Regards, David.
Thanks for watching this David, When ever I get back to the layout I shall have some fun with these again. I hope you are ready for your cold temperatures. Best regards to you
Nice to see our old school boy physics in application. Very inspiring Mr Snooze. Thank you for sharing this.

,ve just bought an r758 and am looking forward to working on it as its been stored for years like so many it deserves a 2nd life.
These usually come back to life well. I hope you had success with yours. Best regards to you
After seeing this model perform for the first time you must remember if it is a new one,it will need to be run in,to perform properly,in full working order, they will pull 3 coaches, check out the videos on this channel
Thanks for watching and taking the time to pass on your good advice. I bet it would be great to see one of these with three coaches, alas I only have the one. Best regards to you
Snooze. Any chance of detailing for us the line boring operation? I"m reaching in desperation for the said Golden Retriever, except I don't have one any more. Best Wishes: Pete
When I finally return to the workshop I will try and revisit this, All the best to you
Wise words Mr Snooze and so true. I often put things aside and come back another day with a fresh perspective and it works every time. Beautiful loco and so well made. Interesting to see how they work. 😊
Thanks for watching Pauline, I hope to get back to the railway soon. Best regards to you
Dear Johnathan. A fascinating video away from your usual Super 4... As a clock restorer, what would be your recommendation for lubricating : gears / axles / spring. In the past I have used fully synthetic 5W motor oil.
On Clockwork Model Railway Items that oil sounds fine. For clocks a more specialist oil is called for. Best regards to you
I just got the train set out of the garage, it is a Hornby Train Goods Set Number 50, the locomotive is a Black tender loco number 60199, there are 2 wagons and a brake van, the brake van has opening doors. In the train box was a small white envelope with "Hornby Ralway Lamps" written on it, in it are 2 lamp, they are very small, about 5 to 6 mm as a cube, there is a slot in the bottom to fit on the bracket on the engine, one lamp has a silver lamp and the other has a red lamp. I could send a photograph if youtube allows it.
A photo of the lamps would be excellent if possible. All the best to you
@@MrSnooze I have tried to send a photo to your emailaddress, did it arrive?
info@snoozevideo.co.uk is the one, nothing today
You're right, I'll have another bash tomorrow.
And the next day, and the next....
I seem to remember that I had some small lamps that went on the brackets on the front of the locomotive. I am planning to get my O gauge train out this week end, I hope that some of the lamps might still be in the box.
It would be good if you have yours. I wonder what they are made of? Best regards to you
Fun Fun Fun that's very true, I've learned that if you can't fix it and you get frustrated leaving it for a while come back to it and heay presto it slots into place I've always believed in that phyosify, anyway I've got quite a lot of those clockwork trains around my model so I'll have to get down and have some fun time, thanks for sharing the video, John
I hope you've had some fun with your clockwork items. Best regards to you
Lovely.... I actually have one of these in Black. God bless you.
I bet yours looks great in black. Thanks for looking, all the best to you
I had a clockwork train given to me for my 5th or 6th birthday. I must confess, I had it apart with in the month sorry to say it never ran again and my farther was none to pleased . My older brother still reminds me of the deed , its bin nearly 70 years now and the guilt is still there thanks for sharing and reminding me of my 0 gauge train. I promise not to touch your train.😳ha ha ha
I think we all used to take things apart if they were held together with nuts and bolts. All part of the play value. Best regards to you
Great to see. An excellent blend for you given your clock and model railway skills! I have a Triang clockwork set that I've never tried, might do that soon.
I hope you've given that set a try, those Tri-ang Clockwork sets are excellent. Best regards to you
@@MrSnooze Yep and it's working. Over 60 years old!
Great little and informative video regarding these old clockwork engines, enjoyed watching you repair that mechanism
I'm glad you like seeing this, thanks for looking, best regards to you

It's always nice when something is simple. Just a small adjustment to compensate for wear and tear. Best regards to you
Lovely interesting video and an insight into these old clockwork engines
Thanks for your kind comment. Take care, all the best to you
You're right about stepping away from problem sets. I've got a workshop full of them! Still, maybe someday! It's important to keep these older locos in working order, after all, these paved the way for today's model railways. Cheers, Jim L

Great little video and sound advice. All the best, bob
Thanks Bob, I hope you are enjoying your items too. All the best to you
Good philosophy. I was thinking of resting the wife for a bit 😆
Keep me updated on that
Nice to see. Simple is best. Happy mending 😊
Thanks Mon, there's a lot to recommend keeping things simple in my opinion. Best regards to you
Lovely old movement. :o) I have a vague recollection that early locos had the brake tab (like yours) and the track piece was a single tab that could be swivelled up from flat to the 'stop' position - but - I'm sure we had other locos which had a second fwd/reverse tab and a newer track piece had two tabs that could be flipped up, depending what you wanted the loco to do. Perhaps someone else will have more information. It would be nice to see the lamps as well if they were ever produced. Thanks for sharing! Mike
That's interesting about the reversing option. I shall look into that. Best regards to you
I found one in a local antique shop. All the original boxes withtheir contents. It has been there for at least two years, and the seller has just lowered the price from US $795.00 to $495.00. If you see this new comment, where might one find those metal fuel tanks?
www.forest-classics.co.uk/ceramic-burners/refillable-gas-tanks/hornby-rocket-gas-tank This is the one I used, Thanks for looking at the video
@@MrSnooze very much my pleasure. Well done.
I would happily settle for 1973 quality today if I only had to pay 1973 prices.
Thanks for looking, I think super detail is what a lot of people like but I'm with you. Best regards to you
I’ve tried double heading 0-4-0’s but if Found a difficulty matching rpm and Ended up using a dummy with no Motor - were these 2 compatible or did you have to change worm or drive gear?
Thanks for watching, both of these have the same gearing and motors so they seemed to match up pretty well, I had fun running them. Best regards to you
Snooze. Hmm: There is still something a little unsatisfying about needing two locos for the performance of one. The girls around here have a bumper sticker: 'When all else fails _Hug your teddy!' It is a bit like that. Except that with us it would be our said Golden Retrievers. Now where DID I put those Peppermints! Yours Troublesomely: Pete
I wanted to experiment coupling these electrically to see if the extra pickups smoothed out the diamonds, I think they handled the dead spots well. I might add pickups to a wagon next then I could just use one loco. Take care, all the best to you
@@MrSnooze Yes: nothing like your experiments to get me thinking. It's a personal thing I suppose, but it is a bit unlucky having the appearance of a loco destroyed by a 'dummy' wagon or by credibility stretching double heading. And then no one has solved the conduit problem. To find a really disappointing example find an image of Marklin's PA 1 A unit free standing. There is a cable coming out the back, and on the end of that is a huge electrical connection. Other than that the locos is a stunner. That is some bumper sticker! I'm actually half way through writing a few ideas, but one thing I totally missed was putting a Marklin centre-rail skate under the chassis (room???). I included this link in my letter; perhaps others might enjoy ua-cam.com/video/nqidF_FGkvA/v-deo.html (I wonder why that didn't go blue?) All the best mate; keep encouraging people.

I hope you give it a try, joining them electrically seems to work really well. All the best to you
I remember them taking quite a few revolutions before they "warmed up" to optimum performance accompanied by that savoury smell.
Yes, they always need a bit of running to get to best operating speed. All the best to you
Great looking train, Mr Snooze. Is the chrome dome a separate attachment of a modified body moulding?
Hornby added the dome to the R.455, it is located with a lug. Best regards to you
Lovely!
Thank you, take care
Great to see those two little engines working so well together.
I was happy how they behaved together. All the best to you
Great video thanks for sharing, I've got a pair of Caledonian pugs pulling 3 long Caledonian coaches & my class 20 I use my converter wagon to couple up my other Triang wagons J
The converter wagons are very useful to have. Best regards to you
Very cool running session. Those little Industrial Tank Engines really are fun to run. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, they do run well together. All the best to you
just a thank you for sharing nice to see them running so well
Thanks for looking, take care
What an excellent idea. Some older Triang locos already have couplings connected to one side of the chassis, resulting in spark displays if they're the wrong way round.
Interesting, that had not occurred to me. Best not to double head with one loco reversed. Best regards to you
It's OK, to face in different directions, if the couplers are mounted on plastic? If they are screwed directly to the chassis, a short through the coupler may occur, when or if a loco is turned around with it's pick-ups on the opposite side? I hope that your plug is not "reversible"? If it is, it might pay to put a dot of paint on it to keep the polarity correct when joining these (or any other) locos together?
I think facing them in different directions would be problematic. I will just keep them as they are for now. All the best to you

Thanks for looking, that Wrenn Cardiff Castle is a great engine. Best regards to you

Relaxing nostalgic video Mr S. I had one of the 0-4-0 (forget which one) but I used to send it from the top of our stairs, but you know what? Thats right indestructible! I was bad like that, crushing my Corgi Dinky in dads vice, setting fire to Scalextric whilst moving. Now my diecasts are all very treasured. Only have the Triang Blue Pullman now . Nice presentation, subscribed
You are giving me flashbacks to some of the experiments my original old toys suffered. They stood up well but some sadly perished. Today I am often looking for replacements to treat a little better. Take care and thanks for looking
A great video as usual
Thank you, I hope you enjoy the upcoming content. Best regards to you
Found my Connie after a while and now totally serviced and runs well
Those 0-4-0 locos were always a migraine. In all of my millions of years I have only ever see one run properly; don't know how it handled turnouts. I have been told it helps to elongate the non-geared axle bearings downward to induce a bit of slack for track undulation. But how protect the load bearing surfaces during the milling; after-all, one needs to insert the cutter before cutting. I suppose we have to grudgingly admit DKK Stay-alive would help. What would not help is to instal a capacitor in a DC model as it would attenuate what little pulse we get afforded by full wave rectified (I'm very proud of that sentence structure and vocab; marvellous!). Marklin retained their stud contact for good reason (then they messed up their 0-4-0's with rubber tyres! Amazing) One reaches for one's Golden Retriever at times like this. The other interest areas are not afraid to have bits and pieces manufactured; be interesting if the various Tri~ang collectors clubs contracted for single start worms. A single start worm would probably benefit a loco like this. Always remember to thoroughly test and monitor, specially for heat. The Matchbox cars are interesting. All but the silliest Tri~ang trains carry the suggestion of prototype well; but for me, Matchbox smash the illusion. Don't know why? Perhaps it's just me. Stay well.
Thanks for looking Pete. The idea of introducing some movement in the bearing to allow all wheels to maintain contact with the rail is interesting. It is something I have been trying on a Wrenn 08 Shunter, as well as adding flanged wheels to the centre axle.... always something to keep the brain cells stimulated. Take care, all the best to you
@@MrSnooze To the far West of you there is fabled to be a country called the US of A. I don't believe it actually exists. Over there was a company called (I think) Taurus. They manufactured a spoon like pickup, something after the Hornby Dublo centre-rail skate. It worked the same way, riding the rail top and being attached to the underside of the chassis. I have tried it with a two railed Marklin F7 #3060. It worked well enough to warrant further research, especially for use on the 08. As far as I took it I had persistent problems with the shoe slipping off the rail on turnouts, and of it catching and deforming when the loco was taken off the rails. Eventually I ripped it off and arranged one of the powered axles to have non tyred wheels and arranged a standard pickup - problem solved (as I say: comprehensively test, mostly, but not only, for heat) The first problem is almost certainly solvable; the second probably solvable. I first read of its use to supplement the pickup on a brass F unit. I had a quick look and it appears the firm is defunct, but some shoes are listed on Ebay. They are easy to make. A bit of hard brass suffices for an arm betwixt the loco and the shoe. The shoe is easily formed from brass; dished over a filed nail head or something. As I wrote: needs research. Best Wishes Snooze.
Hi Mr Snooze, nice to see you back again. Re the fix on your side plates, for what it is worth, I have managed to repair similar plastic sockets by reinforcing the plastic with fuse wire, twisting it around once or twice and them twisting the ends together with fine needle nosed pliers after having previously glued the broken surfaces as well.. Best regards, Jim in WA.
I did fix mine in the end with CA glue and granules. You fix sounds good, I will definitely give it a try in the future. All the best to you
