    I was born in 1958 and this video has just transported me back through time. For me it was the mid-sixties not 1960, but the thrill is still there. Though I doubt I would have had so much railway stuff to open in one go as my parents weren't very well off. But railway modelling (or train sets - as it was referred to in the day) played such an important part of childhood and youth. You can keep your X-Boxes, it's the model trains for me every time. Thanks for giving me such a nostalgic rush. Chris.

    Very good . I was a Tri-ang Hornby kid , but your unwrapping just brings it all back . The excitement , probably down to see if Santa had been very early in the morning then unwrapping all the goodies . I gave my Princess Elizabeth from 1971 a good run on Christmas Eve . 52 years old and still going strong . Happy Days

    My first Xmas was 1960 and I still have my original boxed Hornby Dublo train set. It was the Golden Fleece A4 and I have that very controller and it's still boxed too.
    My second set was the CoBo freight set,still boxed and I have my third set which was another freight set.
    I now own about 35 Class A4 all boxed and some are set.
    I also have the Hornby Dublo catalogue issue No. 2

    Hi Jonathan. Regarding the ringfield motor : you have one of the early versions with the rear bearing fixed and armature adjustment made using the front bearing. (be careful with the tiny locking screw) Instructions were sent out with later versions to inform customers of a change to the adjustable rear bearing. In addition you have observed the curious felt pad used to wipe the surface of the commutator of any oily or carbon brush deposits. Premi

    What a fabulous video.
    Im sure many of us were transported back in time to when we recieved our very first trainset.
    Even today theres something special about opening a new trainset. I must say that Red Dragon trainset is as close to new as you could possibly get.
    It's beautiful.
    Thankyou for the nostalgia trip.

    Lovely to see these mint condition items! I had a Marshall 3 with my first Xmas train set at about the age of 6. I remember at that age being very concerned that our house was being converted from a two wire system of round pin sockets mains to the three pin system we have today. I was worried because my Marshall 3 only had two wires on the mains lead and I badgered my parents to ask the electrician if my Marshall 3 would still work on the three wire system. I was relieved that the answer was “Yes it would!” I am pleased to say the Marshall 3 is still going strong but these days powers a largish Meccano Grandfather clock rewinding mechanism!

      @MrSnooze  11 місяців тому

      It's great to hear you are still getting good service from your Marshall 3. On a different subject I have made many different Meccano Clocks over the years, I was wondering which one you had assembled at the moment? Best regards to you

      @@MrSnooze Its the Bert Love No10 set clock with a few additions like an auto rewind and recently added a Meccano man to wind it it up. Built it about 20 years ago. Have added ball races to some of the pivots as it was beginning to show signs of wear. ua-cam.com/video/b3OsKztARKE/v-deo.htmlsi=zY7ss5DI-QBnAU7l
