      I agree, a quick flick through a catalogue is a great way to see the older items. Best regards to you

    Another wonderful video.
    Your enthusiasm and enjoyment of these fantastic older items really comes through in your commentry.
    And you use that wonderful word "fun" I feel that some people have forgotten that idea when it comes to model railways.
    One of the reasons why yourself and Oscar have developed quite a following.
    All the best. 😊

      I think modern high detail items and a nicely detailed diorama are great to see but just enjoying these older locos gives me great satisfaction. I'm glad you liked the video. Take care, all the best to you

    1974 was in my wilderness years as far as model railways were concerned, newly married and getting settled in Canada and so I am not familiar with that catalogue. It was great to look through from cover to cover, some incredible items I have never seen before. The Ivatt is a dream loco and to be able to pull 16 wagons was amazing.
    Regards, David.

      The Wrenn wagons roll well as do some of the Tri-ang ones. I was pleased with this little train. Best regards to you

    I thoroughly enjoyed this video. My very first train set was a clockwork one as in the catalogue. It was a gift from my great aunt and uncle for my 3rd birthday in 1978. My great uncle was a signalman in the Scottish Borders and a great train enthusiast. He passed away in 1989 and left me all his books on railways and on the airborne troops (he was in the glider troops in WW2, but that's another story). The train set is at my parent's house, I'll have to bring it home.

      You ought to get that set back and give it a run. It's nice you have those books to cherish and enjoy. Thanks for looking, all the best to you

    I have always loved the image of the layout with father and son sat in the big comfy 70's brown armchair. It's also the cover photo on the 4th edition track plan book. I did fancy building a copy of it recently, but no room with my current layout in place. Thanks again for a very enjoyable video.

    Great vid Jonathon. Really enjoyed you sharing the contents of the catalogue. I was in grade 3 at school when that was published. Your layout really showcases the performance of the trains, no derailments over all those points. Great sounds of wheels on track too. Best wishes, Steven.

    🎉 oh my word how timely is this. I'm just about to acquire a R455 in mint condition from 1974 and have been desperate to find out which wagons she came with, then you upload this 🎉 can you tell me the wagon details please, I'd like to give her back her train 😊

    That was very enjoyable. The catalogue is excellent and very well presented to pique the interest of any reader. I agree about the long lived models. I don't buy new things but they seem to only be available for 5 minutes and then they disappear. I have heard people complain about 'old tooling' that is only a few years old and how disappointing it is. The Ivatt is a nice little loco. I have one and it is such a smooth and quiet runner just like yours. It fits with my small layout and I must give it a run. Nice to see the big layout is still functioning. I hope all goes well with whatever the future brings. Looking forward to the next video. 😊

      It is interesting how expectations seem to favour new replacements every year or so now. I remember being quite happy with my items. I guess that's why I hang on to my phone for so long, no need to change it every year. Thanks for looking, all the best to you

    Hi Mr Snooze. Very enjoyable video. I recently obtained one of these Ivatt 2-6-0 locos from ebay and enjoyed getting it going again. They don't seem to come up for sale very often in Australia. Would like to hear about your collection some time. How you started and what it consists of. I bought my first loco, an 0-6-0 3F second hand in 1957. from my choirmaster, a recent pommy immigrant when I was a cathedral chorister all of eleven years old. Please keep 'em coming!. Regards, Jim.

    Very nice seeing these classics snaking around your excellent Super 4 Layout.
    Interesting fact that Nickle Silver track was being introduced as late as 1975. Hornby Dublo were using it in the early1960's so it's surprising that Tri-ang Hornby and Hornby took so long to adopt it after the merger in the mid 1960's.
    Too much invested in Magnadhesion maybe?

      I had the feeling late production era Hornby Dublo two rail went to steel rail to save money.
      I recall seeking out the better nickel silver track from Hornby Dublo and rejecting the steel rail ones when buying second hand in the seventies.

      I think the old Hornby Dublo Two Rail track was quite expensive to make at the time. Thanks for looking, all the best to you

    My first Hornby catalogue. They were free at that time.

    • @andrewhead6267
      @andrewhead6267 3 місяці тому

      Mine too. Had forgotten they were free. I know I got mine from Railmail in Vicarage Road Watford,, as it was on my route home from secondary school. It was really the last year of many former Triang products. The following year was a massive cull. Disappointing as I had marked a few items I really wanted. Including the red LMS Jinty 0-6-0.
      The lifting bridge was a rebadged Pola item.

      Lucky people in the UK. Paying 75 cents in Australia was not a cheap price then.

    I remember being well miffed when I discovered my lovely Super 4 track was no longer being produced, and that all you could but was horrible System 6 😂. That, coupled with tender drive 😱, almost put me off model trains altogether!
    I stuck with my Super 4 until I was much older and then switched to 100% Peco Streamline.
    I never knew Hornby produced nickel silver track as early as that.

    • @MrSnooze
      @MrSnooze  3 місяці тому

      Yes the 70's were definitely a time when many changes were made at Hornby. It's funny but I actually like the tender drive items now. Best regards to you

    The marks on the tender are from the bubble wrap. Some bubble wrap is ok to wrap models in, but the cheaper, low quality stuff id bad news. Personally, I avoid using bubble wrap for any models, not worth the risk. I've seen some nice stuff ruined by bubble wrap over the years.

    You had to buy a 3 pin mains plug and put this on the controller before you could run the sets!

    • @MrSnooze
      @MrSnooze  3 місяці тому

      Indeed, I failed to mention this. I think most households probably had a plug in a drawer somewhere, those days are gone now with the wire and plug being all in one these days. Thanks for looking, all the best to you
