My grandparents had a Westinghouse that pulled out from under cabinet like a drawer and you loaded from the top. It had no spray arm, a fan thing at the bottom sprayed the water all over. It worked well. It came with the house, built in ‘62.

I just picked one of these simplicity 7 vacuums up from a garbage pile and the agitator brush doesn’t engage. I took the agitator apart and it seems like that rubber clutch could be the problem but there are a few other pieces to this thing that I’m hoping aren’t worn too. So my question is- is a new rubber clutch going to be flat on the surface where it contacts the pulley? Or is it supposed to be inset looking?. I figure it’s inset from wearing over the years but I’m not really a vacuum guy. I’m just pretty decent at fixing general stuff. But I can tell that the clutch isn’t engaging like it should. The cam is doing its job. I’m just wondering if I ordered a new rubber clutch if it’s gonna fix it?

WOW!!! We grew up with a Dexter Twin-Tub from as long as I can remember (I was born in '52) till it finally wore out in the early 1960s...I want to say ours was built about 1949 or 1950, and it served a family of seven (five children) with very few hitches! Like the ads say, you could wash in one tub and rinse in the other (although Mom still had a separate wash tub full of water for a second rinse by hand)! Even caught my arm in the wringer once--and only once--but those Dexters were amazing.

My other had that same machine! It died after a few months and she and my father got a regular washer.

What type of dishwasher detergent was on the market in 1949 ?

This looks like the dishwasher we had when I was growing up. It came with the house my parents bought in 1971. When it finally died, my parents estimated that it was about 30 years old. (I guess some of them have lasted a lot longer than that!) They've been through a few dishwashers since then, none of which lasted more than 10 years or so. As I recall, the spray arm was made out of cast iron and was surprisingly heavy, considering it had to spin around--very different from the plastic components in today's dishwashers. In fact, the whole thing was mostly metal and very heavy compared to today's dishwashers.

It says KitchenAid, but the kitchenaid dishwashers were Hobart comercial dishwashers designed for domestic use. The bowling alley i used to go to as a kid had a "Hobart" dishwasher that was just like the machine in your video. It just did'nt have a timer knob, and it had a button to start the cycle.

People need to load these machines properly. This is why the "shredpool/shredmore" washers destroy clothes. Wrong cycle and water levels contribut to this, along with wrong fabric type.

What a great Duel Washing Machine... Excellent Agitation and roll over... This is the way clothes should be washed.. Plenty of water to get them clean the first time.. Not like the H E Crap today, that don't clean your clothes in 1 1/2 Cups of water, and take an hour and a half just to wash one load.. Thanks Gentlemen.
