Another one of Mike's cool machines in action, in the wash cycle. Notice the water level and compare the turnover rate with the rinse video, which has a slightly lower water level.

They cleaned better, but as you can hear here they were nerve-racking noisy, like a jackhammer. And these machines were maintenance nightmares. Eventually they went extinct because the technology was more costly than the Kenmore swish back and forth type of engineering.

Which machine cleans better, this washer or the 1952 Frigidare Unimatic?

Definitely be the Unimanic, the 118 does not have the same turnover at all.
