  • Darren starting up Mike's KD-12 at the Wash Party in Peoria, IL. The sounds are unmistakeable, listen at about 1:15 in for the solenoid snapping the drain valve closed after the initial purge.

Awesome the sound and wash arm are similar to it's 1971 Hobart AM-9 brother I recorded. Being in the food industry I can say no one builds a dishmachine even close to Hobart. This is a fine example.

This looks like the dishwasher we had when I was growing up. It came with the house my parents bought in 1971. When it finally died, my parents estimated that it was about 30 years old. (I guess some of them have lasted a lot longer than that!) They've been through a few dishwashers since then, none of which lasted more than 10 years or so. As I recall, the spray arm was made out of cast iron and was surprisingly heavy, considering it had to spin around--very different from the plastic components in today's dishwashers. In fact, the whole thing was mostly metal and very heavy compared to today's dishwashers.

Oh wow ! Those are awesome machines back when Hobart owned Kitchen Aid . I want to say around the mid 80,s Whirlpool bought Kitchen Aid.

My parents once had a KD-12P (pump model) dishwasher exactly like the one that you show in the video. I still remember all of the sounds it made. I do agree that it wasn't too noisy. However, when it was running it would vibrate the floor a little. That machine had the distinct "Swish. swish, swish, swish" sound when it was running.

It says KitchenAid, but the kitchenaid dishwashers were Hobart comercial dishwashers designed for domestic use. The bowling alley i used to go to as a kid had a "Hobart" dishwasher that was just like the machine in your video. It just did'nt have a timer knob, and it had a button to start the cycle.

I'm curious, what year was that KitchenAid built? It's in such beautiful shape.
