yes, and no, this one is very old and the motor has had many working years, so it's a little worn, I'd imagine. My 1923 Eureka arcs considerably, but it's not bad.
The brown knobs on each side of the motor are the carbon brushes. You unscrew those to change the carbon blocks and make the motor not spark as much.
