Very nice grove. They have no side barcnhes or thorns. I wish i can have some too.
I have some growing in pots...
You've covered everything except temperatures. I bought a Veitchii and have it in my heated cabinet because our temps are between 4c-18c during winter. We don't have central heating here. It will come out in spring. Am I doing the right thing?
these plants don't like temp below 14c so yes keep it warm anyway you can - in my home lows in the winter are about 14c at night...
Evening. I know this video is 5 years old, but, the brakes, I am looking at the new generation L8 brakes they have and I have found some reviews that say the setup can be a bit finicky if the cable length is slightly off, did you find any issue setting them up? Do you still have them?
@justsomedude7556 yes still riding the bike with the brakes... no issue with brakes... would recommend them
@@growproteas1148 So the setup was not a problem? I currently am running some current version Ultegra's, but they are a bit tight when I try an install 30mm tires on the front wheel. So looking at these since they can handle up to a 32mm. For $400, I don't want to have to spend 5 hours trying to make them work because they had 3mm of additional cable.
@@justsomedude7556 I'm running 26mm to make it easy on myself - bike shop installed them for me - they didn't mention any problems
@@growproteas1148 Appreciate the info. Just placed my order :)
hello sir! how long after you bought your luxurians did u repot it ?
probably 6 months...
@@growproteas1148 tq good sir..just got my first anthurium last night... hope i can get it as big as yours

yes
I can’t believe you just use sphagnum moss!! I always rot my plants with moss ☹️
maybe Sacramento is a drier climate?
@@growproteas1148 yes maybe that’s it! I’m in humid Texas. Anyways I’m a huge fan of Your channel! You’re inspirational!
Holy guacamole!!!! Incredible anthuriums. Janine reminds me of my husband, tolerating my plants but slightly concerned about the room 😂
you are right Jeanine is concerned about the room!

I really enjoyed this. Thank you
thanks.. good luck growing!
Oh I found a protea blown over and wanted to see how to save it.
thanks - update on plants soon!
I just came upon your page. I'm from Sacramento too but currently in Texas. I'm so glad to see such simple and practical explanation of how to grow these without the necessities extra equipment for humidity. Would love to see an update soon. 😊
Parabéns, suas plantas são espetaculares 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
obrigado!
What are your favorite grow lights for anthuriums?
I like the VIPARSPECTRA lights on amazon - cheap and they work well as you can see with my plant.... www.amazon.com/dp/B08S7H6D48/ref=sspa_dk_detail_2?pd_rd_i=B08CHCFCG1&pd_rd_w=zha1e&content-id=amzn1.sym.386c274b-4bfe-4421-9052-a1a56db557ab&pf_rd_p=386c274b-4bfe-4421-9052-a1a56db557ab&pf_rd_r=NH0B1AZ0F5H5STQ7CF1W&pd_rd_wg=Twolg&pd_rd_r=1c66bcc1-b7f0-4049-be23-d7d8d62a5834&s=lawn-garden&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9kZXRhaWxfdGhlbWF0aWM&th=1
Thanks for sharing.
@kazochrymowicz3076 thanks!
You've let them get away on you. Prune back the leader / leaders hard and pinch out the tips on lateral growth. Because you grew from seed, it takes years to get the first flowers. They hate wet feet and naturally grow in pure sand. I would repot in sand only and lightly fertilise twice a year, Autumn and Spring with native plant fertiliser slow release pellets low in phosphorus. The sphagnum moss in your potting mix is holding water. If you are not confident in what I have said, try with one plant and see the difference. They do not like overly acid conditions, pH 6 - 7.
Its a snake habitat
ha ha - no snakes so far - mostly squirrels
The seeds can spread And its hard to kill
it only goes to seed once every 200 years
Why is my pumice white?! lol 😂 I’m so brand new to ‘gardening’ and I only do *house plants* lol. Which sadly I’m not the best at. Getting better though! Trial and error…😅 now that I think about it, my 2nd Plantiversary is in the fall. (And I know this video is 8yrs old… buuuut I wanted to watch the updates, and follow along. Got curious about the pumice *and here I am* writing all of this 😂)
pumice can come white, red, black so no issues - here is a video i did with better info than this video - ua-cam.com/video/usgS_Ay49w0/v-deo.html I don't use pumice in the ground any more

Good morning, We reside in Mossel Bay in the Cape Province and I have been exploring Protea growing as a new hobby. After looking at dozens of videos and commentary on the subject I must firstly thank you for your fantastic and very informative video. Iron bamboo
pretty sure it is Phyllostachys vivax
This guy grows.
thanks
Blue timber bamboo Phyllostachys Edulis.
Great bamboo garden. Real fantasy how old are they. Bamboo on the first part of the video is a Blue timber bamboo, Phyllostachys Edulis.
I'm told it's vivax?? thoughts?
@@growproteas1148 vivax is also timber bamboo . It is strictly green. But in a good part of the video lady standing near blue bamboo. Both of that bamboo are great. Iam from europe. Have only small ones. But al of that global heeting.... hope that once theyl grow as yours.
@@user-ms7de4tf6k the bamboo starts out green - then as it ages over the years it turns grey color - thanks!
Never considered the fact that you could make it dense enough to the point where you cannot physically get through, without cutting anyway.
yes -some parts are that dense now
Beautiful Bamboo and a great video May I please ask where you located?
thanks! Sacramento CA
Where can I buy this specie?
Phyllostachys vivax is available online at times - I have some growing in pots - but too heavy to ship
My magnificum definitely needs a bigger pot.
Summer is a good time repot
Would you recommend mixing chunky potting soil with spagmoss?
probably would work - but i would mix 1/2 inch pumice for aeration to spag moss

Absolutely stunning. Great teamwork btw 😊
thanks so much!
How in the world do you have room for all of those huge plants!?
I sold a couple of plants as they have gotten too big!
Quando se faz a germinar as proteias
wow, the flowers so gorgeous. I live San Jose, and I don't have big space to plant the proteas. so I planted in the containers, and at least 10 plants have died since last summer.
I have many in containers doing well - I water them almost daily in the summer
I’m so eager to watch more of your videos
thanks - new update coming soon....
What’s the ratios of the ingredients in your aroid mix?
hello - only growing in sphagnum moss now - don't remember my mix ratios... sorry
@@growproteas1148 Got it, no problem! Thank you! If you don’t mind, this is a mix that I want to try let me know if it looks good. I live in the Bay Area so similar conditions to you. * 3.5 parts Coco husk * 5 parts Perlite * 1.5 parts Coco coir * 4 parts Compost * 1.5 parts Vermiculite * 2 parts bark
@@raspberry_snail looks good - I would consider the bigger size perlite - the small stuff seems to break down fast
Stunning plants! Just about to buy my own queen and will definitely try your tips. What aroid mix brand do you use?
Old school... thank you.
Can you tell me where you get your pots from?
they are called hydrofarm pots -
So much great information - thank you!
thanks! queen is now huge in the 6 gallon pot! - new video soon....
So pretty!
thanks!
Beautiful
thanks!!!
thanks!
I swear your voice reminds me of Saul Goodman!😀 New subscriber here!
Are banksia trees suitable for propagation by cuttings like roses? What types of fertilizers and nutrients are typically used for them? I've been watching the first and second videos, and I've decided to challenge myself to grow them here in Korea by purchasing seeds.
Not sure about propagation from cuttings... Banksias hate phosphorus - they like iron sulfate - best fertilizer is basic compost ( not chicken or beef manure) - they are easy to grow from seed
Amazing
thanks!!!
I would love to have about 12 clumping large bamboo.
yes- this bamboo is not clumping
