    Must be such a good feeling seeing those seeds start to sprout and then again when you figured out the acidity problem. I hope it flowers for you!

    Are banksia trees suitable for propagation by cuttings like roses?
    What types of fertilizers and nutrients are typically used for them?
    I've been watching the first and second videos, and I've decided to challenge myself to grow them here in Korea by purchasing seeds.

      Not sure about propagation from cuttings... Banksias hate phosphorus - they like iron sulfate - best fertilizer is basic compost ( not chicken or beef manure) - they are easy to grow from seed

    That's amazing work, and thanks for the video! I was wondering what your soil drainage is like under your raised bed? And do you have much rain/humidity in your area?

    • @growproteas1148
      @growproteas1148  4 роки тому

      Under the beds the drainage is not great - that is why I had to build the raised bed - 12 inches seems to work well - Sacramento has low humidity - rains only in the winter - a mediterranean climate

    Do you have experience with growing grevillea? Do you use the same paper towel method?

    • @growproteas1148
      @growproteas1148  Рік тому

      I have grown some grevillea from seeds from my own plant - and just planted them outside in october in small pots - ua-cam.com/video/mcJqf8AbGII/v-deo.html

    I'd disagree about pruning. Banksia generally multiple shoot and flower from trimmed nodes and I've had 3 or 4 flower stems off a pruned section. The more compact and heavily pruned the better they will flower.

    Hi
    Just letting you know the best places to get proteaceae seeds,
    For Australian native proteaceae seeds try Nindethana seeds in Western Australia, there you can buy Stirlingia, Isopogon, Hakea, Dryandra, Banksia, Petrophile and others, prices are pretty cheap,
    The other place is Royston Petrie seeds in Mudgee N.S.W Australia, they have a huge range of South African Proteaceae seeds, Protea, Leucadendron, Leucospermom as well as a huge range of Australian Proteaceae.
    Most of the Western Australian Proteaceae are hard to grow in Eastern Australia due to humidity.
    Hope this helps
    Best of luck with your Proteaceae growing
