- My review of the Canyon Ultimate CF EVO Bike - filmed in 4K - SRAM RED eTap - Zipp NSW 303 wheels - Specialized Power Arc Carbon saddle - Time Xpro 15 pedals - Quarq DZero power meter - Wahoo Element Bolt computer
top two-three best bikes in the world easily
it just looks awesome and fast and the zipp and etap is the right match
Good for u for been able to afford it. I rhougjtThe wheels were German melainstain .
Easily one of the best home videos of a Canyon...
This bike smells and looks expensive... easily in the 5 digits...
Surprisingly less than 5 digits. It's in the 4 digits.
Nice but I think Zipp wheels kind of heavy--get some TUNE 9 gram water cages --very functional, I even have on my Focus mountain bike
I noticed the Zipps wheels were heavier, too, when compared to other wheels.
I have zero reservation but the budget. Gorgeous bike though.
So this was over two years ago now. Do you still have the bike? Do you still love it as much?
Yes still have the bike... still love it and recommend.
BAD ASS is right. Curious. I see you have the XS frame and 5'-7", do you have a long or short torso? Did you use the stock integrated handlebar that came with the frame? How did you modify the Garmin mount to accept the Wahoo bolt out front?
I just came back to view this video because I almost certain to use this frame for my build. My build will be similar, except for a different set of wheels. I now have a visual of what I can expect. Plus, I've literally only seen 1 Canyon bike in my area (but not really close to my area) and I wanted a bike that tons of folks in my area don't ride, yet really nice. This frame is sweet looking.
Thanks for the video.
You will love it... I haven't seen any in this area - the strip on top looks good, I bought the mount from canyon and modified it to fit the wahoo...
Methodical2 go on UA-cam to see how to modify garmin mount... pretty easy. Yes used the stock aero handlebar... it is awesome
I do have a SRAM Etap Hydraulic on Canyon Endurace 2018. My question is how did you program the Element bolt that shows the gearing? I do have a bolt also.
Great bike and component choice. Why not consider getting a pair of ee cycleworks brake to drop the weight further 😉
I actually did consider it - but i think it may have only dropped the weight by 75 grams? But the other reason was that i wanted to keep the group set as SRAM - more of a seamless look to the bike - and I didn't like the way the ee brakes looked.
Love it. Torn between this and disc brakes. What bottom bracket u used?
Wmfg BB86 ceramic - no squeak - 95 grams
nice bike ! did you replace the handlebar ? The one you got on is a H36 . The frameset comes with a CP10 handlebar which is aluminum ,
Chaz da Greengo no came stock as is
Nice looking bike. How do you like the SRAM eTap? Did you have to use the Sram Blip module with the blips? If so, where did you mount it? I did not see it.
My first electric group and after 4 months I still love it - will never go back to mechanical. You do not need the module - blips plug into the shifters. And the blip is awesome - shift all the time without moving my hands.
Great thanks. I have the WiFli eTap group on order.
Nice review. I saw another video saying that the fork tube design is prompt to having dirt falling in. The fork comes out a bit when making big turn so that sands can come in. Is that an issue to you? I'm very interested in an endurace but this one thing is holding me back
I checked the bike today and don't see that as a problem.
Get the lightweight wheels next.
Nice bike, if I would get a higher end bike than my stable I would go with canyon... Maybe a Grail for that funky cockpit...
I just don't understand why people don't go with disc models on high end road bikes, I can understand professionals shaving seconds... I think disc provides better stopping all-around for normal people who don't need to do time trial...
Hydraulic disc is a must for Me but I understand it's heavier... Nice bike...
Thanks - disc would add a pound... we don't have much bad weather here in California...
@@growproteas1148 wouldn't it be better to go with lower frame set and go with disc or lower components for disc set up for similar price? Even on fair weather, I believe disc brakes brake quicker in emergency situation...
My priority is a little different than you I believe because I would be happy with many carbon bikes with disc set up in canyon line up that are far below what you paid for yours... I assume it's expensive if it's high end frame...
P.s. I initially thought you meant it adds a pound as in $1000... We call a $1000 a pounder... Lol... But I see you are in to shaving off grams which I would forgo for disc...
By pound.. yes I meant weight... ha ha.. I do a lot of climbing and every pound counts...
Howie Choi because discs are for Rapha riders and they look like shit
Super nice bike! I'm in que for the 9.0 Aero. How does it compare to previous bikes you've had? I'm used to Di2, I'm hoping that eTap will be a good transition.
I had a titanium bike previously - the Ultimate is just as comfortable but much faster and lighter. Your 9.0 Aero looks awesome. Should be fast!
So I actually bought it today! Should be in on Tuesday. How does that saddle compare to a Fizik? I’m kinda thinking about getting a new saddle... that one looks super comfy! Thanks for your time.
I had a fizik aliante on my previous bike which was good - but I do like the specialized power arc better - saddles are definitely an individual taste. Let me know about your new bike - 454 zipp wheels - wow!!!
Beautiful canyon. I am considering on getting it but I am 172 cm.
I am just between XS and S size. What is your height?
Thanks!!
5. 6
What size tires are you running? Any idea if the frame could accommodate 28s? Amazing bike btw!
I am using 25 mm tires - zipp says that 25s are the most aero with their wheels - I understand the bike will accept 28s but you should verify that.
Thanks! Still considering building this frame up as a lightweight climber but would like to run larger tires in the winter.
@@growproteas1148 I spoke to a Canyon rep today and it will accept 28mm tires.
It’s a beauty!
I had same seatpost on my mtb and it realy works(flex)but i swap them for my thomson because i can’t solve creacking...it’s so noise.
Why you didn’t consider discbrakes?
Jura Stanić I don’t have any creaking from seatpost. I love it... didn’t get disc brakes as I didn’t want the extra weight.
And if you ever do get the split seatpost creaking you simply remove it and apply a bit of carbon paste between the split, beneath where it inserts onto the seat tube. Problem solved.
Awesome bike. How tall are you? Trying to get a sense of the Canyon sizing.
5 feet 7 inches
Yours is a medium? I'm the same height roughly and using their chart it suggested i have a size small bike.
size of bike is a "XS" I'm 5 feet 7 inches
@@growproteas1148 Perfect, then the XS is what I will probably need, too. Do you have a long or short torso?
i got a FAKE Canyon VCLS seat post from ebay 31.6mm JUNK !!!
#1 did not FIT frame - SELLER told me to SAND down to FIT
#2 fit OK but the SEAT TILT the two split BEAMS kept slipping even tightened lower bolt did not work
now using a REAL syntace HI Flex p6 NOT MUCH COMPLIANCE !!!!!!!! AMAZING QUALITY Carbon
had a U.S.E Elastomer seat post before Good English Quality
Also have a Cane Creek Thud Buster LT - also AMAZING QUALITY and Amazing Travel
What type of modification did you have to do for the wahoo mount to get it to work? How does it mount to the underside of the bar?
The mount is sold by Canyon for the garmin - there are some videos on UA-cam on how to modify it to accept the wahoo. Two small screws hold the mount to the bike.
Hi, there, I'm thinking of getting the same frameset but not exactly sure about the size. Can you please tell me about your height? thanks
5 feet 6.5 inches
I have exactly the bike n build, the only difference r the pedals I use speedplay pedals
You will love it!
How do you like the seatpost? I saw another review where they thought it flexed too much and replaced it with a conventional post.
I haven't noticed any flex - feels perfect. I love it...
Good to hear...I am considering the Endurace model which has that post.
Hi! I've seen that the bike is a XS size. What height are you? I also what to buy a Canyon Ultimate CF SLX and I'm not sure of the size: S or XS. I'm 1.73m.
I'm 5' 7" Looks like you might be a S size.
@@growproteas1148 what is the length of your handle bar please? 90, 100, 110?
@@arielp1207 came 90 which is stock
@@growproteas1148 would love to see a photo of you sitting on the bike just to see your stance✌😁 im also 5'7. Just to get rid of my doubts in XS as im into small frame
@@arielp1207 my friend is 5'8 and he got the XS and is very happy
Is that a Shimano Cassette?
Yes... good observation
What was your total spend?
11k plus some
I love this bike but carbon wheels with rim brakes?! This turns me away from even thinking about buying, if they came out with a disk version then YES!
I didn't want the extra weight of disc breaks - I do a lot of climbing - Doesn't rain much where I live. Everyon's situation is different - Rim breaks on the bike work great!
They do make a disc version of the Ultimate.
@@growproteas1148 I'm with you - don't want the added weight, don't like the looks either, nor do I ride in the rain. Like you said, different strokes for different folks.
I have rim breaks on my Ultimate with DT Swiss carbon wheels. The bike brakes better than any bike I've ever ridden.
Is that a Bible on that table?
No.. it's the "Every Day Life of Abraham Lincoln"
Frame is made by Merida?
No ... it's made by Canyon in Germany
I believe it’s Quest Composites in China, think they build frames for Trek too.
No - they are made in Germany - see video of the plant - ua-cam.com/video/jL_iOFAXdi4/v-deo.html
Frame was made by Quest Composite in China and assembly in Germany plant.
www.questcomposite.com/business-sport.php
There is only assemble and R&D part in Germany. Frames are made in Asia.
10.000 € , sorry ma man but are you nuts to spend this kind of cash on a bike ???
get a job dude
@@MarcusM83 I have one man , but I'm not gonna spent 10.000 € on a bike , and I make this money in a 2 or 3 month. :)
