COOBER PEDY - Opal Capital of the World
After leaving the Flinders Ranges and stopping over night at Glendambo, we finally make it to Coober Pedy, known as the opal capital of the world. We explore some undergound houses, underground churches, opal shops, opal mines and visit Crocodile Harry's origianal dugout! We do the sunset tour out at The stunning Breakaways and explore the local cemeteries in town where we find Crocodile Harry's grave.
Coober Pedy has some weird but amazing sights and well worth a visit.

THANK YOU for sharing, much appreciated 👍🏻👏🏻🙏🏻🙋🏻♀️🇦🇺
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it 😊
Just interested if there was any comebacks for fishing in protected green zones. Were you even made aware on your briefing about this?
Not quite sure what you mean. We weren’t briefed at any stage.
@@lappnitup I don’t want to say too much. Just that the boat briefer should have made you aware. I loved the video. Google green zones in qld.
Hi Tony bus looks great. When upgrading to the 4200, was there any questions about your rims/wheels? Do you know what the rim offset is? Any info appreciated, regards Dave
Hi Dave, no there were no questions about the wheels. The rim offset is +47. The load rating on each rim was 1250.
@@lappnitup thanks Tony that’s great info, I appreciate your reply
During my working life I was fortunate to live and work in some wonderful places. In the mid 80's I was fortunate to live and work in Coober Pedy for 2 years. Even today I still rate Coober Pedy as the "greatest" place I have ever lived due to it's uniqueness. I lived under ground and worked above gtound. You mentioned "characters" in the town, well Coober Pedy was definitely punching above it's weight in that department. Have safe travels
Thank you 🙏 It certainly is a ‘unique’ place. We loved it too. Awesome down to earth people and plenty to see and do. What a great experience you had to live there for a couple of years. 😊
Interesting great video guys i haven't been there yet working on it all the best Ron
Thanks Ron, it’s definitely an interesting place and plenty to see. 😊
Wow that was a fantastic episode credits to you ..the footage and music combo was awsonme cheers 🍻
Thanks so much Scott, we’re glad you enjoyed it. We loved putting the episode together 😊
Great video guys very interesting all the best Ron
Thanks Ron, glad you enjoyed it 😊
Good to see you guys travelling again. The Flinders Ranges is an amazing place just stunning at dawn and dusk. Some great drives up steep hills and through the creeks, we are heading there in July. A little disappointed Tony didn't dig his keys in the pitch to do a proper pitch report. Safe travels.
Thanks Brenton. We love the Flinders and could go back there over and over!!! Only a 3 week trip this time but we’ll take anything as long as we can get away!! Enjoy the Flinders when you go which I’m sure you will 😊
Bloody good to see you back and bloody good episode 🍻🍻🍻
Thanks so much David!! It was great to be back for a short time 😊. Enjoy the flinders 😊
Thanks, this is helpful info about the park.
Glad it was helpful! Safe travels 😊
Hello New friends From Australia. 😊😊😊😊😊
Hello 😊👋👋
Great place we spent 4 days there on the way back from Bright. Good to see you on hols again. Sorry forgot, check out the Station Stays there are some beautiful places and very reasonable prices.
Thanks Brenton, the Grampians is one we could never get sick of. We are looking at Mount Little Station when we go to the Flinders as we’ve stayed there before and loved it.
Yep know it we stayed a while back, you'll have agreat time there. Are you going to Arkaroola some great drives around there as well.
We are sitting down in the next couple of weeks to workout where and what we are going to see and do so I’ll put it on the list 👍
Nice episode guys good to see you guys back 🍻🍻🍻🍻
Thanks David, felt great to be back even if it was only for a short break. Planning on the flinders ranges in the next couple of months so really looking forward to that 😊
Good to see you back how was Christmas and New year all the best Ron
Thanks Ron, Xmas and new year was pretty quiet but nice. How was yours?
@@lappnitup ok except the RCD in my van decided to catch fire no damage except for the RCD lucky
Oh no 😮! Lucky there’s no damage and lucky no one was hurt! It could have been a lot worse .
@@lappnitup yes i am very pleased and it's all fixed and working again thanks to the electrician who worked in the van on a 40 degree day
Missing you guys! When are you hitting the road again ?
Aww thank you 🙏. We recently did a short trip to the Grampians which we’ll be putting an episode out soon on. We will also be doing short trips off and on over the next 12 months as we have a few other things in at the moment. Planning a big trip to the flinders ranges and Coober Pedy in March too. We have loved spending time at home with our grandbaby ❤️
We saw ur car drive past us on the way to melb
Hi 👋
I saw your car now I’m subscribe
Thank you 🙏 I hope you enjoy our videos 😊
Fabulous video.
Thanks so much 😊Glad you enjoyed it!
Have you gone home and finished your videos, we enjoyed watching your travels, NO wait, we get it Fiona still cheering and Tony is still sooking about The Blues. Magpies B2B
Hahaha thanks guys!! Yes we are home and have been busy renovating and a short trip overseas. Hoping to get back in the van soon for some short trips. But you are 100% correct about me still cheering and Tony sooking!!! How good was that bloody gf!!! I think we’d be divorced if it was a Carlton Collingwood gf! Next year will be interesting 🧐
@@lappnitup lucky for us we don’t have a mixed marriage, both Magpies,
Both very smart intelligent people then 😂
Great video, I admire the couples harmony, they love what they are doing together, and that LC 200 is a workhouse, maybe a workhorse, it’s contents added are a lot all practical safari stuff. Well done guys!😂
Thank you so much. Really appreciate your kind comment and glad you enjoy our content 😊
We enjoy all your video. Especially like the combination of vid and photos. Only critique would be, don’t wave the camera around. Keep enjoying our great country.
Thank you so much 😊
When in Lightning Ridge seeing Chambers of the Black Hand is definitely a Must Do attraction. Sam as a tour guide is just so informative & brilliant. The lower guided mine tour teaches you so much it puts into perspective Opal Mining. Best Outback Tourist attraction by a Country mile
Totally agree. We thoroughly enjoyed this tour. We knew nothing about opal mining but we learnt a lot from this tour.
Hi guys just finished watching your vid of the sea lions, loved it cant wait to get back to the Eyre peninsula. All the best Jamo and Deb.
That’s awesome. Thank you 🙏. We absolutely loved it and can’t wait to do it again. They are so inquisitively cute and playful.
What's with the tiny toy piano music ?
Not really sure which one you’re talking about? The music chosen for each part was appropriate for each area we were in but not sure which one you describe as ‘Tiny toy’.
Very dissapointing in ur strathgordon trip no info on anything, just teds beach and gordon dam,did ya see the houn pine near chalet, did ya take video or pics at the lookout over looking lake pedder :)
Really? Did you watch the whole video? There’s pictures from the lookout and we did better than standing at the lookout by droning higher than the lookout could give as a view!!! If you expect every single piece of information and pictures we’d still be there trying to cover everything. Unfortunately we didn’t have 6 months to do this but feel free to send us your pics. Not sure how long you think a video should be but this one goes for 40 minutes. More than your average video on UA-cam. We cover so many things of so so many interesting places in this area that I’m sure generally suits everyone. But I suppose some people just have to have something to say whether it’s good or bad!!! Pretty disappointing to read a comment like this when all you can talk about is houn pine near a chalet? Have you any idea how long it takes to put a video together not to mention the time filming and gathering information? I suggest you watch another channel.
@@lappnitup didnt even go to scotts peak, show any sights on the way into strathgordon from maydena hahaha
And?
Do you guys still under under weight after all the mods . Gvm and gcm.
Yes we are. The GVM is 4200 and GCM is 7800
Did you upgrade your axles to accommodate the extra weight. Also I’m interested what your payload is now. Nice 200.
where have you two been or is it a secret
Lol!! Not a secret but we are home for a little while attending to a few things. Itching to get back out though!! Hopefully will get some episodes together of our favourite places on our lap 😊
Great video. Greetings from Costa Rica
Oh hi there 👋. Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching 😊. Can I ask how you found our video? Did it just come up or did you search for a particular subject?
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🍻🍻🍻 we have been there 2014 things have changed 😂
As strange as it is we can see why people are drawn to it. It’s a very interesting place 😊
Cheers guys bet your loving being in the outback again 🤙
Thanks, we love being in the outback. There’s nothing better when travelling 😊
Great to see you back, that's a tough gig staying there how relaxing does it look. We've never been to Lightning Ridge so would love to get up there some time, my 92 yo mum went on a tour and stayed at the Outback Resort and climbed the mounds she loved it, she is quite active though. Can't get over those sunsets up there bet it's a bit fresh in the mornings but nice days. Unfortunately our holiday has been put back as my wife had a terrible fall 4 weeks ago shattering her arm and shoulder and after a few metal plates, screws and pins they fixed all the broken bits so will just be doing the top of Vic Swan Reach, Bendigo then on to Bright for a week and up to Katoomba then probably home. Great video again really enjoyed the scenery some fascinating places. Any tips on things to see around Bright as haven't been for 40 years would be great. Thanks Brenton.
Wow! Your mum is amazing! Lightning ridge is a great place to visit as strange as it is!! So sorry to hear about your wife’s fall. We hope she has a speedy recovery. 😊. We love Bright, especially in Autumn. A beautiful place to visit up there is The Bluff Mount Buffalo. The original ski resort on the way to The Bluff is nice to stop at too. A bit of a windy drive but the views are magnificent. We stayed in Porepunkah at Porepunkah Pines caravan park. Lovely park with a bike / walking track into town. A lovely old pub to go for lunch is Happy Valley Hotel in Ovens. Bright Main Street is gorgeous and if you’re into easy 4wd (dirt roads east) the Buckland Valley has magnificent tracks that take you up to amazing views.
Thanks for your tip on Bright just looked them up, yep mum is incredible still drives and swims 4 times a week. Ruth is doing ok lots of pain but is improving. We are definitely looking forward to getting away. Look forward to your next upload.😊
hey mate great cruiser! i am slowly doing up my 200 and i was wondering how the rhino goes out central with Roos and other wildlife. doenst look like youve been struck by anything. my thoughts on the matter are the bar should take most of the hit initially. and the radiator is protected somewhat by the lights. and with a lift kit the radiator should sit higher than the body of the roo? can you shed some light on this in your experience?
Thanks 😊. If you check out episode 53 we hit a roo!!!! It was a 6 footer and we hit him at 100k’s. Lucky we got him on the down hop or he would have come over the bonnet. The bullbar took all the impact so we were very lucky. The bullbar had to be replaced but saved what would have been a lot of damage.
@@lappnitup ill definitely check it out, hope you were alright from the experience, these things happen but its still a shock when they do. keep it up and ill be sure to follow along
We need less bum focus 😂😅 Otherwise love seeing all places you go show us 👌 makes us want to travel Australia. We always seem to just think about overseas travel .this is changing our minds 😁
Hahaha yes it makes it hard when I walk in front as Tony’s always stopping to film!!! Australia is amazing and we were unaware of its beauty until we travelled it too 😊
Lol 😆 Yes it's like everyone they always think somewhere else is better ..definitely want to see it all now 👌
Great vid. Thanks for all the tips Springbrook was absolutely beautiful.
No probs Warren and thank you 🙏
Absolutely amazing video of the mountains and water falls it's been while since we've been there so looking forward to seeing it all again as much has changed. Great to see you having a fantastic time and catching up with friends on the way, the weather looks nice spare a thought for us poor Adelaideians as it's STUPID COLD here. Thanks again really enjoyed this one. Cheers Brenton.
Thanks Brenton, we loved this whole area. So many beautiful falls and lookouts. We caught up with so many people in that last month. A lot we’d met on our trip all seemed to be in Qld at the same time! It was so nice to see them all again. We are actually back in Melbourne now so I feel your pain with the cold 🥶
And your a couple of degrees colder than us. Are you planning another trip soon or enjoying family, fires and good Reds.
We’ve got a few things on for the next few months but will continue to do trips after that 👍
It ain’t bad ain’t it lol Lovely places 😁😁😁 it’s a shame idiots get a big fan base but interesting good persons not so much. Top useful content again you two travellers
Thanks Paul 😊. We’re a bit at a loss with that too. Not sure what we’re doing wrong but I think it may be our age 🤷♀️🤷♀️
how was the trip over. did anyone get seasick
We were so lucky and had the pick of days . The skipper mentioned it’s the best weather for the trip out there he’s seen. I have heard it can be very rough though.
Wow Montville is now on the list what a stunning place. The Cafe would be a nice place to sit back for a few hours and eat and drink. I've been to the Glasshouse Mountains 40 years ago and has certainly changed and we have family who live about an hour from there so looking forward to exploring this area. Thanks for this ep some really nice places.
Thanks Brenton, we love Montville. We have been there before and made sure this time around to go back. The restaurant is beautiful and on a nice day the view is just superb. The Main Street has some gorgeous shops too. There’s so many lovely towns up there to explore. You have the added bonus of family close by!
I want a roof top tent that can hold a roof top tinny with it moving up and down while its on top.
Now that would be the ultimate set up 👍
I don't know why people make videos with music in background the natural sounds would be better to hear.
With this video I’m not really sure what natural sounds you’d hear? What sound does a fish make? On the island a group of 30 people are very noisy and on the boat the only sound is a droning engine noise?
👏🏻Gee with all these islands to stay on , the question a roof top tent v boat 🤷🏼♂️ 🫣🤣 2nd question, many Vic’s up there yet as it’s bloody cold and wet down here Safe travels guys 👨🏻🌾🤙🏻
Thanks Stewie, we thought at the start of our trip a rooftop but realised half way round a boat would get a lot more use so we still think boat!! Other things to see on the islands rather than fish! Lots of caravans/travellers heading north at the moment. I think we’re the only stupid ones heading south 🙄
Did I miss an episode last week or were you having a break. Just booked Hervey Bay, Yeppoon and Noosa so thanks for this video on Rainbow and tips for the beach run. We're staying on Fraser Island at K'gari Resitr for 3 days hopefully that will be enough time to see a bit of the Island. Would suggest getting on Fraser at River Heads as we are just taking the 4X4 rather than Inskip. Thanks again.
Thanks Brenton, no we didn’t put a video out last week. The laptop is playing up. I need to get it in for repair but will take a few weeks so I’m putting up with it shutting down all the time and locking me out at the moment! Great you’ve booked those places. A beautiful part of Qld to explore. Also awesome about Fraser!! You’ll love it. You’ll get to see the main parts of Fraser in that time. In my opinion I’d do the shipwreck, Lake McKenzie and Eli Creek and you’d easily do them in 3 days. Getting on the ferry at River Heads is a bit more expensive but it also cuts a lot of driving out than if you were to get on at Inskip. Can’t wait to hear about your time up here ☺️
Thanks for that, bloody computers. My 92 yo mother decided she wants a smart phone now don't if she has ever seen one before so if you see a bright light overhead in the next week it was me throwing it at a million mile an hour as mum will struggle to comprehend the whole concept. Thanks for the help about getting on Fraser as that will work better for us. Enjoy the warmth as crap here in Adel.
Lol funny as!! I taught my 86 year old mum to use an iPad a few months ago so she can receive photos of the great grand babies. It was very painful but she finally got it. Didn’t bother to teach her how to reply (god forbid!)!! I’d still bloody be there! She asked me a few years ago what the little envelope at the top of her phone screen with the number 38 next to it was!!! That would be 38 unread messages mum 😂🙄
Roll reversal at its finest.
Loved both of your Fraser Island videos. Fantastic photography once again. Always someone on Fraser to help out. 😂Very special place.
Thank you so much 😊. Fraser is certainly an amazing place. Can’t wait to do it again one day. It’s great when people jump in to help out! Good old Aussie spirit is still found in some places 👍
Always seems to be a lot of experts when things get all unnecessary. Such a stunning place with lots to do have definitely penned it in on our tour up there. Please send maps of all the " Chicken Tracks" fortunately Paj Sport not as wide as your beast. Really enjoyed this Ep.
Thank you Brenton, you can’t skip Fraser. It’s magnificent. Lol no need for chicken tracks (actually I don’t think there are any)!!! Glad you enjoyed it 😊😊
Great video guys yes 15 is the magical pressure to get you most places All the best Ron
Thanks Ron, 15 sure is unless there’s 2 big holes that young ones created to get stuck in like we did!! 😂
It was like you didn’t even have drive to the steer wheels when you were bogged in that sand??? Did you try crawl mode at all? Just interested as the sand you were in didn’t look that bad on video. Cheers 👍
Hi Brad, the reason we were stuck was because all those kids standing around had got bogged there earlier and left 2 whopping holes that we then got stuck in. It was sitting on the diff so crawl mode unfortunately wouldn’t have worked. We tried everything before being snatched. Had the trax on all wheels too but didn’t help 😔. Can’t see much in the vid but they were quite deep and not noticeable from the entrance or we wouldn’t have gone in that way 🙄.
@@lappnitup Bloody kids hey who would have ‘em, nothing but trouble 🤣🤣
Guys - us that school hols? Busier than a train station 😂 Awesome island, need to get back there soon!
Nah this was about 2 weeks before school holidays but it was around midday which is when everyone seems to go including the tour buses!! Best to go late in the arvo which is why we went back. It was sensational with no-one there! Magnificent island and we are already talking about going back 👍
One place we would love to go seen a lot of vlogs on it and looks amazing. Not sure how a stock standard new Pajero Sport would cope with H/T tyres would love some help with that as new to this 4x4 stuff. Think we'll head there later this year as looks like won't be long before traffic lights are needed😂. The shipwreck would definitely be a highlight as right into the pics. Thanks again for your work putting this together, stunning. Was the bladder really full of water or something more tasty.
Thanks Brenton, the Pajero Sport would be fine. With lowered tyre pressures you’d have no problems. There’s a few sandy parts but nothing really difficult. The trackers through the middle of the island are mostly hard sandy dirt and out on the beach is mostly hard too. I wish the bladder was full of something more tasty as it wouldn’t have hurt so much 😋
Thanks for that fortunately we are travelling with friends just think it's safer when your not that experienced in 4x4.
Even better if you’re travelling with someone else. Make sure you have recovery gear just in case and there’s also plenty of people that stop to help anyway. We got bogged on Fraser (next weeks episode) but it was going into the entrance to our camp and the young guys there had dug big holes when they were mucking around and of course we got stuck there! Around 10 guys came out of the wood work to help. We also had a fuel filter problem and broke down and heaps of guys came to our rescue. Lucky 2 of them were mechanics. 👍
Go you Bloody good thing 🍺🍻🍻🥃🍸
Cheers Dave 🍻
Thanks again looks a great spot up there shame no caravan park at the Bundy Distillery! Looking forward to seeing Hervey Bay.
Thanks Brenton, really nice area with lots of coastal towns and things to do. Suggestion box needed at distillery for a free camp!!! 😊😊
