I Tried to Swap Shop for Annie's VW #floridabugjam
We had this great idea to do a Swap Meet Challenge on behalf of Annie's VW and it worked... until it didn't.
Data service just wouldn't keep up but we didn't quit! Annie did great dealing with the dropouts and the surviving footage is included here. Check out the whole story on the first Haptic Garage Swap Meet Challenge!

      @Mikefngarage 13 днів тому

      90% of cars in CA dont have thermostats.....Running mostly in warmer weather at this point. No freezing winter driving anymore. For that theory to be good your engine would need to be running at less than 160 degrees. Which is what most engines ran at before smog equipment. when most air cooled engines are running between 260 and 300 in the summer.

    • @HapticGarage
      @HapticGarage 16 днів тому

      Hey @RJLM330, I use them too but first give both sides a coat of Permatex 3H and let it dry. I feel that makes it more like a real gasket. Because it's fully dry when installed, there isn't a lot of cleanup at the next oil change. Just the untreated paper seems likely to wick oil. Having said all of that, do what works and thanks for watching!

    Great video. I am in the middle of this process now. One question though; I was going to trim the fan shroud to fit “deeper” into the cylinder tins, but I had this epiphany: When you bolt the generator stand to the block, and the generator to the stand and the fan shroud to the generator, doesn’t THAT determine how deep the fan shroud will sit in the cylinder tins? Because that makes it a solid assembly. I have this problem on the passenger side tin: the shroud is too high, but the driver side tin, fits into the shroud perfectly . The shroud does not contact the engine block in the center. This is driving me crazy. Thanks. Jim

    • @HapticGarage
      @HapticGarage 20 днів тому

      Thanks @DrJazz7 yes, you are correct about the Genny stand holding everything up. The shroud may be leaning to cause the issue you're having, but if you have an aftermarket non-OEM shroud there is a good just doesn't fit and needs modification. Let us know how it goes!

    These are fun to watch. Ive been wanting to see this process. Now im just a dope with a question. But if valve laping compound cleans up a trashed up exhaust seat like it can. Could that and a sacrifical cam fix an alignment issue?

    • @HapticGarage
      @HapticGarage 23 дні тому

      Thanks @OwhyeeVdub, if I understand you correctly that's a clever approach to the #2 cam bearing issue. However, the problem is in the cam bore; this area tends to collapse a little in high mileage cases. Then it's not round and needs to be cut back into a circle. Lapping compound on the bearing may clearance it but would kinda wear it out and may cause oil pressure loss with a distorted bearing. Ain't nuthin easy!

    You need a fixture to mount that bearing. I wouldn't put that bearing in a chuck. An expanding collet type of thing would be much better. Or just superglue the bearing onto a shaft would be better.

    • @HapticGarage
      @HapticGarage 23 дні тому

      I like the collet idea but not sure what the actual tool would be called. I have something like that I picked up with some other stuff but it's the wrong size. It's meant to be used between centers.
