Off roaders will tell you that to move over sand a bit easier, let a little air out of the tires for added stability. The coast is it takes a little more effort to move but saves you the time of having to reload the hand truck when it tips over from being unstable. Nice job in that transformation.
Good point @vwfanatic2390 that has worked well here. There's a balance (pun intended) between stability and payload. Similar results on a pea gravel driveway; it just makes things so much easier off pavement. Thanks for watching!
Shoulda named this one - "how to take your engine for a walk". Looks good as usual! I have a feeling if we ever worked on a project together we'd spend most of our time making custom tools and thinking up creative solutions for tasks/jobs that don't necessarily need custom tools or creative solutions, but the fun of doing it would always win the day. haha! This one, though, looks essential!
Thanks Annie, that would've been a good name for this one. You're gonna like the engine stand video- that project fits your insights well. I'm supposed to be working on an actual engine right now but I've been distracted by upgrades to the engine stand and having a blast doing it. Great minds thing alike!
Another way to improve rolling performance on sand and pea stone is to add more wheels to the axle. Pvc makes for good spacers between the wheels, as does thinwall conduit. For even more stability, at the cost of space, you could switch to a longer axle and put the wheels outside the frame. You could also go crazy and add 4 wheels this way. When your clippy-clips give out a pair of bolts through magnets might do the job.
Was discussing the wider stance with someone yesterday; definitely some possibilities there. I really like the magnet idea! Thanks for watching @ronyerke9250
short and sweet. I modified a harbor freight hand truck to be my tig and mig welding cart that holds two bottles. It too can go over any terrane. I had the same vision, and made it happen. Worked beautifully, although it is very heavy.
Nice! Glad that worked out for you, it's a good idea. My favorite repurposed hand truck mod is a 3 phase power distro for live events. They bolted a main breaker box to the hand truck and cut in cam lock connectors for the feeder cables and metal outlet covers for all the circuits. Yeah, it was sketchy.
Have at it Robert, it's working great here and I use the dolly for a lot of other stuff too. Should have done this a long time ago. Glad to be posting today!
Hi Brent. Good to see you again. This should be a very useful piece of equipment. I have something similar with fork lift type pieces that has been very handy in a lot of places. Where did you get those nasty engines and stuff? LOL
Thanks Rick! Yes, it's been great already. I remember using the fork dolly when we were loading up these bits of rusty gold. Great memories we'll have to repeat! I hope you and the family had a wonderful holiday and the year has started well.
Thanks Tom. I agree it would be more stable with a wider track, and it has space for it too. Just guessing here, it may have a higher payload with the wheels inside the supports; it's a 1/2" mild steel axle. Would a forged 4340 axle be overkill?!? Gots big plans...

I like these small project videos. More of these!
Thanks Greg!
Been missing Haptic….you too Jawbreaker
Thanks flydude, glad to be posting today
Excellent video. Thanks for posting!
Hey! I remember seeing that cart brand new! Nice work man turned out great.
Thanks Alan!
Nothing wrong with modifying a tool to work better.great job.
Absolutely Larry. I imagine you've played this game before!

Nice! Now if you only had a way to put the engine on a stand easily!
Great minds think alike

Nice! Might have to borrow that idea. lol.
Looks like you got a trailer load. Fill us in on the goods in a video!
Good to see you posting again

Very nice!
Thanks vayabroder729!
If you have to go across some uneven terrain, possibly you could put a strap on it like they have on an appliance dolly...Very nice work...
Yeah, a strap works well. I moved a 400lb transformer recently- a ratcheting tie down made all the difference. Thanks for watching!
Right on, man. Nice work. Good to see you again.
Thanks @stuck1000 glad to be posting today!
Making It Work .....genious
Thanks @cathyandgreg4239 , it's worked out well!
Nice job.
Thanks Vintage76!
Nice work! I’m sure that cart will get lots of use👍
Thanks @ChipsAndSparksGarage it's already been a lifesaver!
Hoping to see more about wheezy soon
Me too! Have a few things in the works, but Wheezy is right there on the shelf patiently waiting!
I like it. I just picked up 3 engines a few days ago. Where was this when I needed it 😂 would be nice if the wheels had a wider stance.

@@HapticGarage no, just another how-to video. I'd hate to see that VW engine tip off the dolly.
if you havent cut it yet,, try to flatten the pipe and try it,,,,cut if it doesnt
lol spoke to late lol
Yeah... probably would have worked too if I did it without warping stuff. All's well that ends well. Thanks for the input.
