Hi, Brent great work accomplished here with the alignment of the camber I think and she drives great and easy. you get closer and closer to the perfection of the Dweezil Great progress my friend, looking forwards to the next EP🎥.🍀🇺🇸☮🇳🇴Greetings Hubertus
@@HapticGarage Tanks, Brent the weather is slowly but some better temp today 3 degrees don't +side North East wind brbrbr. but never the less I making progress with the T3.thank you,🇺🇸👍🏻🇳🇴-
Nice technique there. Here in Mexico alignment shops do a terrible job because they align the front wheels, and they just take out the steering wheel and leave it straight and that's plain wrong, because they usually leave the car turning more to one side than the other one.. And if you tell them that they're doing it wrong, they insist that that's how it is supposed to be done. Sometimes the steering on some guys' bugs is too off because they replace parts and the alignment specs end up everywhere. What I tell my friends is to count the steering turns and see if their steering box is centered, and then at the very center have the steering lock itself by removing the key. Once the steering lock latches, then you straighten the wheel and align in that point.
Thanks for the helpful tips Ed! I agree that alignment needs to be checked when related parts are repaired/replaced. In this case, it was all refurbished so it gave me the benefit of a clean starting point. Despite doing what I could to set it up neutral without specific measurements, it still needed a more accurate approach. And truth be told, this wasn't enough! Now that I'm through my first attempt, I'll do it again by starting with camber then rechecking the toe with multiple measurements. It's an interesting topic and each effort I've made here paid off in how the car performs. That's just like an old VW to reward us for our attention!
@@HapticGarage yes. I don't have much patience for this because it's easier to adjust stuff from below the car and with the wheels on the plates that remove the floor resistance. But it can be done without the special tools and ramp, it's just more time consuming and all that. Keep up the good work Brent!
Thanks Rob! It worked well for this. I can imagine a more portable version that is cut in half and is assemble with one of those coupler nuts. That would be uptown. See you soon!
Great use of basic tools and equipment to get part of the alignment right. I love the way you think and execute. Very clever. Dweezil will get to the coast and back easily!
Thanks Richard! You're correct- we only got part of the alignment right. I'm looking forward to doing it again but first adjusting camber and if I'm really doing it right, I'll need to learn a method for checking caster too. Fascinating stuff. Thanks as always for the support!
Nice one Brent. This give me a good jumping off point for when I do an initial alignment on Helen. Thanks for taking the time to document it and share your findings!
Thanks Annie, it's my pleasure to share this stuff with my VW friends. I'm sure things are thawing out where you are- hoping to see more progress on Helen. The work you're doing is amazing and I know you'll put together a great Beetle. Keep it up!
Glad you made this video, Im around the same stage about to put the beetle back on the road. Will be using your alignment technique! Can't wait for the next instalment, keep up the great work!
Not sure if you have realised since making vid, but you are missing some skinny vent lines from filler (l have these on my 67 - they vent down to bulkhead area)
Thanks A Gee, yes- I've learned the "vent line" lesson a couple times now. Not sure why I missed it again on this system, but I've cobbled together something and will follow up with a more permanent venting solution soon. Some of the later models had complex emissions requirements with charcoal filters and lines to the intake. Thanks for the heads up!
Hola Dante, las llantas en este video son 205/75R15 delanteras y 225/60R15 traseras. No he instalado neumáticos traseros 225/75R15 un poco más grandes.
Another step forward, love the progress that you’re making.
Thanks Gary! Looking forward to hanging out soon!

Great video. Dweezil looks awesome.
Thanks Zimm! He's a little rough around the edges but has heart. Thanks for being a part of the fun!
Dweezil will be a very nice car when done.you did that work spot on without any expensive material. Great work Brent👍👍👍
Thanks VW Beetle Oval! We'll get there and the journey will be the best part!

Like I told Slade; if you don't smell gas in an old VW, you're probably out of gas. Great video. I completely over engineered my front end alignment.
Good one CJ! Two things you always smell at a VW show- gasoline and fresh paint. Thanks for being a part of the fun CJ!
Great video as always Brent. I love that exhaust. Great educational video too!
Thanks Levi! Yeah, that buggy exhaust is fun. Horribly inefficient, but fun!

Wow, how did you ever find flat level ground in FL?!
My trick is to go anywhere south of I-10. Works every time.
Do you live in central Florida
Hey John! Yes, its starting to feel like summer around here.
