  • We had this great idea to do a Swap Meet Challenge on behalf of Annie's VW and it worked... until it didn't.
    Data service just wouldn't keep up but we didn't quit! Annie did great dealing with the dropouts and the surviving footage is included here. Check out the whole story on the first Haptic Garage Swap Meet Challenge!
    Already watched the live stream? The new footage starts at 14:25

    Don’t sweat the little back ducts; you can get them aftermarket from EMPI and they fit well as opposed to most aftermarket tin. You got a great deal on the rest!

      Thanks, good to know. I have some of those on hand that I'll send along with the other parts.

    hey Brent! Thanks again for this fun little side-quest I put you on! This will make a HUGE difference for Helen's little engine moving forward and I'm excited to make the swap. I'd love to try a live stream like this again in the future for sure. Sorry I didn't couldn't be in the chat during the premier! Life, am I right?? ha!

      Thanks Annie, I'm excited for you to make the upgrade and like the way you're doing it- work with what you have and make improvements as you're able. Glad you're up for another live stream, this was so much fun while it lasted!

    I agree with you about the thermostats, on air-cooled engines.

      90% of cars in CA dont have thermostats.....Running mostly in warmer weather at this point. No freezing winter driving anymore. For that theory to be good your engine would need to be running at less than 160 degrees. Which is what most engines ran at before smog equipment. when most air cooled engines are running between 260 and 300 in the summer.

      If you’re operating the car in colder climates I’d say yes; they help in warming up the motor appropriately.

    Bring a small shopping cart, or wagen to haul parts around. It keeps your hands free.

      I've used a variety of methods, including parking Dweezil nearby or stashing at a friend's swap space. A custom wagon would be a fun addition

      @@HapticGarage Having my wagen at swap meets helps, especially for heavy parts.

      Yeah, definitely been some times that it would have been helpful. This time I bought an antique pallet jack and needed friends with a trailer to help!

    Those fan shrouds with the venturi rings, are off the 1975-79 FI engines.

      @HapticGarage  2 місяці тому +2

      Good info, thanks @vintage76! Do they have an advantage for other applications?

    • @vintage76vipergreenBeetle
      @vintage76vipergreenBeetle 2 місяці тому +2

      @@HapticGarage Yes, those venturi rings can help any type 1 engine. Look it up, on the samba.

      The Venturi rings help with more airflow. Andrig manufactures and sells them for OEM and aftermarket shrouds.

      @@vayabroder729 I'll look them up Vayabroder. I have a couple with the venturis I've been saving for the right build. It's good to understand them better!

      If the FI shrouds are priced right, it will be cheaper to buy them and remove the venturi rings off them. Or used the FI shrouds. The aftermarket venturi rings are $55 plus shipping.

      No worries @dog01b52, glad you were able to catch up with us! Despite the tech issues we had with the live stream, this was a fun twist on our usual swap meet live streams. We'll have to do more of this soon!

    is annie winter driving it? if not I am not so sure about the need for a thermostat.....I just drove up to the mountains at 27 degrees and my bus ran great.....Not running too cold. that would need to be under 160 degrees. Highly unlikely.
