A Day in the Life of a Video Game Voice Actor - Featuring Jas Patrick
Voice acting in video games has become more important than ever as time as gone by and technology has improved. From having essentially volunteers working the roles, to now full-blown actors motion captured into the games, the standards for voice acting have increased. It is a topic I have always been interesting in. After playing Octopath Traveler 2 I was amazed at the performance of one of the main characters Patritio. After finding out his voice actor was Jas Patrick, I messaged him directly asking for an interview. He was kind enough to give me plenty of his time and provided his story and deep insight into the video game voice acting industry. Jas Patrick is an award winning voice actor who has featured in major games such as Octopath Traveler 2, Dead Rising and Chivalry 2. I hope you enjoy the video and I apologize about any audio issues. This was my first interview and I am still learning how to record everything correctly.

Why Do Some Game Studios Ignore Their Own Fans?!
Переглядів 13 тис.День тому
After the recent release of Dragon Age the Veilguard it was evident that those most upset about the game were those who were long-time fans of the Dragon Age series. The game deviated so much from what they were used to that it didn't match anything they had expected. The series had gone in a completely different direction compared to previous entries. Dragon Age was the not the first game seri...
Dragon Age the Veilguard - Why It's SO Divisive

So with the recent release of Dragon Age the Veilguard I was lucky enough to get it on the release date courtesy of my wife! I immediately looked online and saw so many negative reviews that I couldn't believe my eyes. IGN gave the game a 9/10, Google a 1/5. Metacritic gave generally favourable scores expect for the User Scores that gave it 3/10. With the reviews being so split, I asked myself ...

Fallout Day Showed Everything Wrong at Bethesda!

Bethesda just recently did a new yearly live stream entitled "Fallout Day" where they would celebrate everything Fallout and give fans of the series news and updates! After watching the most recent stream, I couldn't help but feel disappointed. Rather than cover all things Fallout, the entire stream solely focused on Fallout 76, Bethesda's online version. I have never been a fan of this game as...

Silent Hill 2 PS5 Review - Minimal Spoilers!

So the new Silent Hill 2 has just come out and I have had the time to play it! I wanted to make a review for this game and give some feedback to those who are considering buying the game. With this remaster of the game that took the series to it's peak, is this ga...

The “20 million players” is not monthly users, it’s most likely how many players have logged on since the game released. It does not matter how long a player has played. This probably includes gamepass figures, which is why it sounds so inflated.

About to end Act 1 in DAVG. Overall? Those who like Solas will get the most out of it. They should have just imported Iron Bull to replace a certain character. But really? If they want to experiment like they did? It should have been a side entry to the series. + should have connected more with Inq. Just my pov. Also I didn't pay for it. It was gifted to me by family. + not super invested in Dragon Age. Was fine with DAII. Never managed to finish DAI. Edit: DA Origins did have the most complete overall story and dlcs.

As a woman, I've always thought games are the ultimate art form. It has everything: writing/storytelling, visuals, animation, screenplay, directing, music, voice/acting, environmental design, architecture, landscape etc. I've "wasted" a lot of my free time playing games since childhood and now as an adult, my 9-5 is again "wasted" on helping create games. Video games are great and I don't regret a single second of my life used on it because I enjoy it and I want more people to enjoy it too.

Ignoring fans is always a good thing if you have a leader at the helm with their own vision. If Miyazaki listened to the fans we'd never have Demon souls. But you should never ignore fans if you don't have your own vision to follow. Many of the AAA western games feel like they were made by democracy instead of a dictatorship and a dictator style visionary is how all good games are made.

It’s the fact they went for the money! Miyakzaki went almost against the money! In fact, he still does! If he added a difficulty setting on Elden ring he’d sell more copies, but he sticks to his principles because he is making his version in his vision. When games ignore their fans whilst also trying to do mass appeal like DAV (simple combat, simple writing, simple everything) they end up pleasing nobody. It’s sad to see.

You got my point of view on this game tbh. I don't care about DEI or other stuff like that. I don't like and I don't care about that. You can have these kind of topics in game sure... but in fantasy game use words like "non-binary" is stupid. Why they don't use some lore friendly term for that? In Dragon Age Inquisition they handle similar topic way better (character of Krem) but here is like... i'm gonna shove my "problems" down your throat if you like it or not. I waited years for this game and won't buy it. It's not Dragon Age, not for me. And there is one thing that I see in some videos, "If you remove Dragon Age from the title is decent game". We, as consumers, judge the final product, same with the movies or books, ofc we can speculate that "oh, this part would be better if <insert something>" but we are judging final product, and that is Dragon Age Veilguard... and it's just sad how far this series has fallen.

I'm tired of the anti DEI crowds. I'm not even sure why anyone would want inequality and exclusion, but sure, why not. I'm baffled by the idea of people rating a whole game on one cutscene, before the game is even out. I mean sure, this may make you don't to play it for "reasons" but don't trash a game you don't have a broad view on. I myself, won't play it because it is far too different from the older dragon age games... I am an old fan and even if I can appreciate a good ARPG for what it is, I know seeing weak RP and simplistic scenario in my Dragon Age will hurt my soul. So I'll pass on this one.

It actually makes me upset seeing what people say and it’s like come on, surely we can move past this now? It’s been so long. But I honestly felt like this game is not for RPG fans. It’s like an action linear fast paced game. As a huge RPG fan myself I didn’t finish it. I put in about 50 hours and I will finish it, but it wears you down. It’s very repetitive and after a while you get tired of it. The story is not strong enough to keep you invested you know what I mean?

Video games can act as “teachers” depending on the game purpose [2]. Video gaming has varying effects depending on the game genre. For instance, an active video game can improve physical fitness [3,4,5,6], whereas social video games can improve social behavior [7,8,9]. The most interesting results show that playing video games can change cognition and the brain [10,11,12,13]. Earlier studies have demonstrated that playing video games can benefit cognition. Cross-sectional and longitudinal studies have demonstrated that the experience of video gaming is associated with better cognitive function, specifically in terms of visual attention and short-term memory [14], reaction time [15], and working memory [16]. Additionally, some randomized controlled studies show positive effects of video gaming interventions on cognition [17,18]. Recent meta-analytical studies have also supported the positive effects of video gaming on cognition [10,11,12,13]. These studies demonstrate that playing video games does provide cognitive benefits. DOI: 10.3390/brainsci9100251 I feel like this speaks for itself.

To be honest the more time goes on, the more doubt I have for Elder Scrolls 6... Starfield was rough and sure you could say part of that was much weaker story building due to it being a brand new franchise with no history, but it was also rough in gameplay, a lot more jank than a normal bethesda title. That does not bode well for Elder Scrolls 6. Unless they're putting only the best of their team(s) on Elder Scrolls 6 there's going to be issues because they've seemed to have lost direction or maybe they've forgotten what made their games beloved in the first place. Whatever it is I'm holding onto my butts..
