A good lesson in how lucrative micro transactions are: a few years ago; World of Tanks, a free-to-play game could afford to advertise during the Super Bowl. And did so.

I think that’s the biggest lie in gaming. “Free to play”. They really suck people in and they advertise everywhere. If they can get on the Super Bowl it shows not only how much they make, but how much they can spend and then recuperate! And all of this for a “free” game lol

I played through the whole beta for WOT, on launch i tried to party up with my mate and couldn't unless one of us had premium account. Total joke. Not to mention you could buy better ammo which did more damage and penetration. To make silver in game after tier 6 you really need premium or you won't get enough to unlock new moduals. Wargaming also Bought the game engine they made the game with for like 4 billion if i remember corretly

@@doctoronishispsychosislab1474 awful isn’t it? And it just sucks you in and then it’s the mentality thing. I think it’s called false cost fallacy or something like that. It means once you put money into something it justifies you to keep spending more and more because you don’t want the money spent to be for nothing. It’s horrible and if they said tomorrow every game was gonna be like that, gaming would end pretty quick.

And you know what? It's not only about videogames. Top charts in Spotify and Apple Music is filled with garbage. The most of the shows us usually an endless slop. And the majority of the movies nowadays are really mediocre and "options". Everything about "big companies" and "investors" may be applied to literally everything, that's being sold to us. But people for whatever reasons think that it's only about gaming.
Thank you for highlighting such a big topic!

Thank you! I feel the same as you to be honest. Here’s something interesting, I figured out that all the games, sorry most of the games who don’t care about about the art and prioritise making money are from USA or maybe UK. Same with the music that they push it’s all like bland and usually pushing an agenda, same with the tv shows and movies. Actually, it’s starting to make me think that someone at the top is making these decisions or our society is now bankrupt creativity wise

I don't buy most games that include this stuff. There are exceptions for games that still have a good single player experience (GTA 5 as an example) without the need for extra purchases but in general I avoid anything that has a large focus on purchases being made after the initial purchase of the game. I want to buy a game, have a good experience with it for a few weeks without being forced to spend more money, and move on to something else. If a game can't give me that I skip it no matter how good it's said to be.

Thank you! And this leans so nicely into a topic I wanted to cover with the online gaming world. If I buy a game physically it’s mine now. No matter what. But with things going 100% digital, the buyer now technically doesn’t have anything. They could take it off the store and it’s gone. Saw that happen with a game on ps4! And the mobile apps, you could spend hours and lots of money, and they can shut down the app and poof! All that time and money gone. It’s really annoying seeing people fight for digital only because it only benefits one person, the company

Yes and it’s oversaturated now. Did you see the part in the video where I post footage of the games like concord? They all look exactly the same. Instead of us getting like 10 beautiful RPGs with great stories, we get all the money spent on them! It’s so money driven though but there’s one big problem I noticed. I think it’s just the UK and USA. The rest of Europe and the world seem to still make great games but those two countries seem to be the ones chasing every dollar they can!

    • @dienand_gaming

@@AVVGaming1 I was writing a long response, but I misclicked and my comment got obliterated... sorry. Quick summary below:
I think Concord is just a case of bad marketing and as you say they tried to release an average game into an oversaturated market thinking they could improve on it later. I didn't even know the game existed until I heard it got shut down.
As for the latter point I think most of these companies are run by people who only see the money and don't understand gaming at all. They probably keep a spreadsheet of ideas and only the ones that seem the most lucrative get greenlit... (remasters, live service games or call of duty 🤣) Also the companies that end up this way are ones where they have once had a long track record of extremely successful products, so maybe that's why it seems like it's mostly the US/UK based ones?
(Hopefully that was helpful, I feel like I basically just parroted what you already covered)

Personally, I think microtransactions that involve only cosmetics (and not gameplay) are totally fine and I even support that. Ultimately, the studio needs their money, because making games isn't free. If they can cut down on the initial cost of the game by doing that, that means more people get to play and people that have a bit more to spend will compensate for the people that have less to spend.

The price to experience these things are one blight, the interactions between those who experience these things can be another far more infectious one. Example: competitive online multiplayer games and their players.

Capitalism always tries to abuse products that sell well. I 100% agree that games are the supreme form of art combining all aspects of, music/sound design, visual art and creativity in one and on top every person can experience it in a slightly different way. Games like Baldurs Gate 3 show us, that this from of art will be staying with us. I am currently playing Life is Strange: True Colors, and I am amazed what emotions it can trigger,. It makes me cry and laugh and this is amazing.
I have fallen for the evil tactics of all sorts in my life. I played microtransaction mobile games, I dumped years of my life in MMORPG's and payed monthly subscriptions, I played games with battle passes until I didn't even knew why I was playing the game even though I had zero fun playing it.
The bad thing is that everyone has to learn what bad games are to avoid them, some may even get stuck with some or ruin their life with micro transactions and such. It's a shame to see that this artistic form of entertainment gets molested so much. Still.... there is nothing I love more in life then gaming, as there are so much precious memories and valuable lessons I got while playing.

    • @AVVGaming1
      @AVVGaming1  2 місяці тому +1

First of all thank you so much for sharing your experience. Secondly, life is strange is fire! I’m going to do a video on the series one day, it’s underrated and yet not? Ultimate peaceful game. As far as the microtransactions go, it’s designed to trick the player. They ask for so little money with a call to action, like $1. So you set up payments and you’re in at that point. Then, they add in sales to get you up, memberships cost more but save you more and so it goes on! It’s very naughty and it is capitalism at its worst! I was just playing xenoblade chronicles 3 and thinking what a game! Then I realised, Japan are realising great games with none of this stuff, European releasing Witcher, cyberpunk, KCD2 and BG3. They put the game first. Then you’ve got USA and UK and we seem to be fixated on getting as much money as possible and using these tactics. It’s such a shame but once you figure them out and manage to get out of the trap, like yourself, you are able to see it. And great games always get the credit, respect and rewards. It shows that no matter how much they throw it at us, qualify always prevails! I just can’t believe they can do it knowing the core audience is comprised of children for games like Fortnite. Awesome comment and thanks for sharing! Let me know how you enjoy life is strange!

@@AVVGaming1 awesome, you know I am really glad I stumbled upon your content, really enjoying it so far, and you might be onto something with your theory about usa VS european values regarding game desing philosophy. Sadly we also see game studios getting bought by bigger publisher who try to use them to make more money.
I'm thinking of Redfall, made by Arkane Studios. They once made the amazing dishonored games, and bethesda tried to use them to make a cash cow which failed tremedously. We will see this a lot in the future and it makes me really sad.

@@AVVGaming1 awesome, I really appreciate you engaging in that topic, and I’m glad I stumbled upon your channel. You might be onto something with the difference between European and US values.
What also concerns me is the destruction of very creative game studios by big publishers who try to milk money out of them, like what happened to Arkane Studios when they were bought by Bethesda to make Redfall. Once, they made gems like Dishonored.
Another new trend is releasing unfinished or broken games, not only by big companies but also by smaller startups. They try to get some quick cash and then disappear. I’m thinking of The Day Before here.
There have also been some really cruel occurrences, like the Çiftlik Bank game in Turkey. People believed they were doing something good for the local economy by playing a farm game, but it turned out to be a pyramid scam.
There will always be someone trying to get your money, and games are a great way to do it.

@@Drogenprinz I actually did a video called “why Xbox is failing and why it deserves too” but it get really bad views and a lot of dislikes. But I stand by my opinion. Microsoft are trying to buy the market out using money they haven’t made from games, but from their other departments. So they want to buy up every game developer then put them on game pass. Other companies like Sony can’t do it because it doesn’t make sense financially. Xbox loses literally billions from this new idea but they can take the hit so they keep going. Buy a studio and shut parts down. They keep going and it’s less about making a great game and more about just controlling the market. Long term, eventually other game consoles can’t compete and give up. Xbox then control the market and change their business plan and game pass from $10 a month to $100 and we have to pay it because otherwise there’s no one else to buy from. It’s capitalism at its absolute worst and I’m not a socialist or anything, but it’s clearly nasty to see. That’s how I feel anyway

The massive cost is definitely a big factor in why there are so many franchises or reboots/remasters. Fortunately, once in a while we get a gem such as GTA V, or Cyberpunk 2077. Other than that, indie games are where the fun and creativity is.
As for the gacha games, these are interesting. Basically, if you're a weeb (I am one), you don't really have many high quality options for an anime style game. And the quality has skyrocketed ever since Genshin Impact's success. I think gacha players are aware of how predatory the business model is, but they put up with it because there are no non-gacha alternatives with these aesthetics. It's all about these waifus and husbandos 🙂To be clear, I wouldn't spend a dime on a game like this if I didn't like the characters.

    • @AVVGaming1

Yes and I think that’s about balance right? Like I mentioned I like football, so my favourite team sells tickets for like £100. Is that too much money? Well it makes me happy, and it’s not my entire pay check. So it’s responsible. But if I only had £100, and hadn’t bought food, paid electric etc. if I chose to buy the ticket instead, then I’m in big trouble lol. Same with the Gacha gaming, as long as you’re in control and you’re enjoying it, that’s the main thing. I think it’s the fact this stuff is designed to bait you in, then keep you spending more after. Someone could mess up pretty quickly

  • @TheMysterieRPGguy

Yeah these are pretty much the reasons why I mostly play older games now-a-days, I am not someone who easily falls for these tactics but I still don't like them very much. Plus there are so many old games I've never played I have more then enough to last me my whole life time. I've been playing Titan Quest lately great little action RPG from 2006, I played it back in those days and it was great fun back then. But with the anniversary edition that came out a few years back and the release of multiple new expansions in the last few years it has so much content to play it can last me months. It's so much fun to go back and replay something that has no microtransaction, no loot boxes, no BS just great old school gaming fun.

    • @AVVGaming1
      @AVVGaming1  2 місяці тому +1

You know what? I think honestly speaking, the best thing to do is delay buying a game. So like KcD was $60, it had two major dlcs I think so it’s about $100 all in. But if you had the patience of a saint, and waited a few years, you’d get the whole lot for $20 super edition lol. It’s the smart way but patience is limited nowadays. I’ve just got around to my backlog playing xenoblade chronicles 3 and it’s blown my mind lol. I’ve had it for years but never checked it out. I rarely fall those micro transaction techniques either but I’ve seen it happen to people and it’s so sad. They really need to regulate it. Old games and indie game developers are now the ones we love and get the praise. I think it’s American and maybe UK companies. Rest of the world seems to be more focused on delivering a good product whereas those countries just all about the money.

Gaming isn't the only thing suffering from the hyper monetized crap going around now a days. It's in everything in our daily lives now. Everything is becoming an 'addon' or 'subscription' rather than just being able to buy a quality thing and actually own it and use it as much as you want. Gaming does have the additional problem of putting blatant gambling in the hands of minors, and I keep hoping that regulation will eventually brings the hammer down on that but given how powerful these corps have gotten, it doesn't seem likely to happen. This is the problem with allowing the capitalists at the top to do whatever the hell they want with no boundaries, they take everything and government has little willpower to stop them because they want those fat 'donations' to their reelection campaigns.

These are the reasons why I don't play the modern games. I mostly play the older games. For SNES, Sega Genesis, PS1, PS2, NES, and PS3 and Xbox 360. Yeah sure the PS3 games still have dlc if you really want to get more games that's more the you bargain for. Like I got the physical copy of Call of duty WAW. And I want to get all of the cod zombies. But the only problem Is it cost $24. I don't want to play for zombies if it cost that much. But at least it's not as bad as the modern games we have. And at least the PS3 online is Free. Unlike the PS4 and PS5. If you want to play online then you have to get an subscription for it. I do not want to pay my hard on cash to play an online game just for a little bit. as much as I love my PS5 I don't want to play most of what we have today. Video games are meant to be a window to escape the real world. Like books and movies and shows. Not gambling. Sony, Xbox, and other video games studios. Let us have. F.U.N. Fun!!! And not spending our money on things we don't really need. It's like chasing after the wind. At least in my opinion. I hope everyone is blessed. And I hope everyone who is reading this accepts Jesus as there Lord and Savior. For he is the son of God. And he is no prophet.

I really like the chainsaw in that game. I also love call of duty WAW. Because how dark that game is. Plus I don't have to pay for the multiplayer because I have the PS3 version. But if I have a favorite game it would definitely be red dead redemption 2 and 1. But definitely undead nightmare.

Indie is the way to go!
With some companies it's fine when they work on smaller games and with some franchises for me street fighter n tekken their dlc comes out months or years, that is okay for me.

Yeah indie game developers are really the ones delivering but they’re about to step into another level. You look at Fallout London, Skyblivion and Forgotten Realms. Indie game developers used to deliver lesser games but now their games are unreal! Warhorse studios got the chance and took it and wait til KCD2 drops. We gotta support these indie studios as much as we can!

I’ll do a video on it one day but for me it’s games that don’t stir emotion, they don’t have great writing and they feel so big yet empty. So giant open world, lots of towers, lots of enemy camps to clear, just the same stuff everywhere you go. Characters don’t seem to be living in the world, they stand on one spot, just lifeless. I’ll do a video one day and explain my side, but if you like it, that’s not a bad thing. It’s just my personal opinion and I can be wrong. Games are all about personal opinion so it’s good some prefer different titles. And I love resident evil, but RE6 was a tough one lol

@@AVVGaming1 So Cyberpunk? That's a game that empty for no reason and lacks RPG mechanics and the story wasn't the best we have seen from CDPR. The main character had no character progression, Johnny was a dull character and edgy character. It's main plot point was rushed. It's a game that CDPR thought that if they could add DLC it would fix the main game but didn't address main flaw of the game. I don't get how a game like Cyperpunk is considered a game with soul but anything you deem unworthy is a game without soul. I don't just know. Just seems like a vague term that changes meaning when we are talking person. If that's the case why blame the devs for having a difference of opinion. Feels like there is a lack of nuance whenever i look at videos like these.

@@AVVGaming1 I don't think any of these games are soulless. It's same when someone says they lowered the bar of standards. What standard cause? That bar can mean anything at any time and opinions changes over time. I think it's all meaningless terminology. It's something we are prescribing ourselves of then get angry that the gaming industry aren't reaching our imaginary bar. Granted; Sure you can make argument on what makes a good game and a bad game but the bad games are very few and far in between. People tend to confuse not liking something over being bad but then associate them as one in the same. Just think about it for a moment. Based of your parameters a game like Death Stranding would be soulless or a game like Greedfall. Both have open worlds or open levels that are fairly empty but have a good narratives that try to weave it's side quests and main quest together.

I actually completely agree with you that the standards are sort of imaginary and maybe it’s just a popular thing to say. I mean video games are art, and art is going to always create emotions and differentiate opinions. I would love some games you’d hate and vice Versa, and then there’ll be games that we both agree are great. Gaming is lower art form than movies or Novels, since it's just doing the same thing on repeat over and over again.
Stories are put in games to give the levels a reason to be there, but games tell poor stories unless they're a passive "movie game"

    • @AVVGaming1

@@AVVGaming1 Just movies broken up with gameplay parts where control is taken away from the story teller for the player to do the same combos on repeat. Stories for games just give you a reason to beat enemies and move up a level.
You'd not use a game to tell a story, you'd make a movie or write a novel.
Games have less, purpose in telling what needs to be told and it's not as artsy. It's more mechanical.
