Recruiting HALSIN & MINTHARA: Is it possible, after Patch 1, of Baldur’s Gate 3?

- In this video, we will explore the question of whether you can recruit both Halsin and Minthara to be fighting companions and join your camp in Baldur’s gate 3 after Patch 1 on August 25, 2023, which stated that you cannot recruit both characters. Nevertheless, there is evidence that folks have done just that prior to the patch. Is it still possible?
Watch all the way to the end as we have many important tips gleaned from scores of hours testing all possible scenarios.
The good news is that with either Halsin or Minthara alive in Act 2, that is with all three Goblin Leaders defeated or with the Goblin/Grove conflict unresolved, respectively, you can retain Wyll and Karlach as companions if you had recruited either or both prior to going to the Mountain Pass or Act 2. If the Goblins are not completely defeated either by killing the three Goblin leaders or winning the battle of Emerald Grove on the side of the Druids and Tieflings, then Karlach cannot get repairs to her overheating infernal engine from Dammon in act 2 as most of the Tieflings disappear in Act 2.

Sometimes i think when they will patch things, our guide will become outdated, but at the same time is a way to keep doing content too! I'm really loving this game and also the community, doing tests and studying all possibilities! Enjoy your game everyone! 😁
The way it works now Halsin’s character makes no sense. He won’t defend the Grove. He can escape prison at any time by turning into a rat. He comes off as weak asking for help from strangers when not defending his Grove himself.

If you tell Minthara about the emerald grove location but do not resolve the conflict , can you still have Minthara, Karlach and Wyll?
Yes. Be careful to not attack a druid in the grove if you return. They will be hostile. One opportunity attack against a Grove resident will cause both Karlach and Wyll to quit even if they did they fighting or were at camp.
I'm really curious to see how the patch releasing today might affect things. Larian said that this patch will fix bugs related to Minthara. I'm hoping for the possibility of knocking her out, recruiting Halsin, and meeting her in Moonrise later.
They won’t do that. They intentionally made it impossible in patch 1 last month just because ppl were recruiting Halsin and Minthara.
So it's possible before patch1?
wish there was an ending where Halsin just remains as archdruid and Minthara escapes after a failed assault if you snuck Halsin out but alas he wont leave unless you present a dead goblin leader trio. The difference between a dynamic tabletop experience and the limitations of a video game i suppose. @@LinusWilson

I use a mod that allow me to recruit Minthara, with the only issue being that in camp, Minthara and Halsin are standing in the same location.
So let me get this straight, I’m testing this now so let’s see, right now my current state is I’ve attacked the druids forcing all the druids to attempt to wipe out the tieflings, I’ve got the party limit remover mod so I stationed all party members at the key skirmish locations preemptively the resulting battle saw only one inconsequential tiefling dead, I will now travel to the goblin camp and wipe out every single goblin, drow, and Halsin himself leaving minthara as the only person alive, then I will go through the mountain pass. In theory… tiefling for Karlach’s engine should be at last light no? How can minthara assault grove on her own and kill all tieflings? Will let you know the results
For clarification I did something similar on dark urge however was playing unmodded and was unable to stop Druids from massacring most key tiefling npcs, minthara does in fact survive this, but seeing as zevlor and company were mostly dead I couldn’t gage if they had survived however I do recall a tiefling in act 3 saying I remember you from the grove, could be tripping about that though
Just read a comment where you said you don’t do mods, this method in theory could work with base 4 party members as you could send 3 to each of the skirmish spots, outside zevlors cave, by the trader, by the animal pens, and 1 to pick a fight with the Druids, then you’ll have 4 battles on your hands which once you freeze time once it gets to your turn on each battle provided your chars are built enough you should be able to then finish the initial provocation battle, run and join the animal pens battle turn the tide, then take both chars to the trader battle win, so you would in theory then have all 4 chars for right outside zevlors cave where most of the key npcs are, goes without saying that high initiative and healing are essential to keep tieflings alive
The Tieflings will die if Minthara lives. You don’t have to actively kill them. If you actively kill them then you lose Wyll and Karlach.
It's a bit confusing to me but it seems that you have tried everything.
My question is does Minthara have to die as part of Zevlors kill the Goblin leader quest? Because I thought that Ragzlin was their leader and I was hoping to kill hi and the priestess to completed the quest.
What if you just kill all the goblins but never interact with Minthara?
What if you silence Minthara and break the bridge so she can't cross it?

It looks like it should be be possible as Minthara comments on Karlac which shouldn't be possible if you can only have one or the other without using all of this bug stuff. Trading 3 companions for 1 doesn't sound like a good deal unless you are playing dark urge and being an asshole.
I do hate that we are getting 2 druid companions when we don’t have a ranger, monk, or bard.
Getting the tiefling bard should be a give in.

This is probably just another later patch. I would like the ability to have everyone.
It is strange that you cannot get more evil characters from the goblin camp. And the dwuagar from the under dark. I never did find that demon or the link to char.
Never got a dwarf or a deep gnome outside of character creator.
I think that getting a monk for the destroyed temple would be great, having to decide between the gith and the monks.
Also wanted to know what the huge crystal on the monetary is for.
This is one of the games where it is great and I just want more.

What if you leave Wyll and Karlach in camp when dealing with Halsin and Minthara? And the Grove/Goblin conflict?
They leave you after you raid the grove with Minthara.
That's usually if they are currently part of the traveling group, I specifically stated the question regarding LEAVING them at CAMP@@LinusWilson
they will still leave. they magically know what you did...somehow

One can call Minthara insteresting if you want to bed her. I'm kinda curiou, how many players sacrificed many tieflings and druids for it ^^
Play the game the way you want to. I laid out the choices and consequence of killing or not killing Minthara.

You can recruit Minthara, Wyll, and Karlach at once. The video is not about all the scenarios where that is possible, but I have done that. Listen to the whole video about the scenarios where that works and its drawbacks.
I'm doing an evil path, I ignored the grove. Got Minthara while keeping Wyll and Karlach. Now that no one can repair Karlach's engine I'm gonna sacrifice her to BOOOAL.
I'm devastated I can't keep Halsin alive, or at least make him stay at the grove. He's my boy, my bear, my heart. But I must explore this route.
She lives through act 3 to the very end of the game. There is no reason to kill her lol.

That was discussed in the video. Dammon will die if Minthara lives. Karlach lives the entire game with a bad ticker…

Just use a mod lol that's what I do. Make it impossible to trigger Minthara's death in the game's story log except for completing the goblin leader kill quest.

You don't have to be all about mods to offer an extremely simple solution to a complex problem.
I get its cool to see if there's still an innate way to do something in the game but there's no harm in mentioning the existence of a mod. Especially not on my part.

The statement that you cannot recruit both Halsin and Minthara is incorrect. It can and always has been able to be done but only legitimately by a singular method: You must deliberately trigger the Rite of Thorns to recruit Halsin before leaving the area. I posted more details in the Halsin/Minthara reddit, but basically if you trigger Rite of Thorns and tell Halsin that it's been done, he will join your camp immediately and then you can proceed to Moonrise Towers to recruit Minthara.
EDIT: I have a few videos posted as proof if you want to see for yourself.
Thanks I’ll check it out. I tried the rite of thorns thing and could not get it to work for Minthara and Halsin. Perhaps you have a better explanation than I have seen. The fact that they share a tent and don’t refer to one another in addition to the patch 1 statement by Larian means they are not intended to both be companions at once. There is also the sheep method to get Minthara and Halsin and save the tieflings.

@@LinusWilson Yeah they still share a tent and don't have lines about eachother. However, other than that little glitchyness everything else dialogue/storywise worked properly. Halsin even has a few lines asking him about if he's heard from the grove since the Rite of Thorns, but otherwise he has little to say.
Only little tidbit that it may have impacted was the Dryad scene. I was able to get approval from Halsin telling him his biggest mistake was making Kagha his second in command when asked about his "Biggest mistake."
Since this video refused to tell me what the titles suggested I would find. A yes or no requisite by definition, since I guess you were unaware of that. I have to assume the concept is all together foreign to you, since Yes or no themselves are single syllable words, each or either taking less one literal second to speak aloud. Just slightly longer to type in fact. So you can understand why I have concluded you must have a lack of familiarity with the premise or the concept, since I am 16 seconds into your video, and neither word has yet be spoken and more confounding still you are continuing to speak as if a yes or a no is not something people who would watch this video would like to know, you thought that so much you made a video about it. So, in what should be an all together common courtesy, I leave this comment to enlighten you to this appropriate act of brevity knowing that doing so helps facilitate the transfer of knowledge that everyone who clicked on this video was expecting to find.
