Playmobil: The Movie Flops Historically | Charting with Dan!
Hosted by Dan Murrell (@MurrellDan)
Featuring Lon Harris (@lons)

Imagine a kid wanting to see Frozen 2 but their parents take them to Playmobil instead because it was cheaper
That kid would have every right to put him/herself up for adoption
Why would it be cheaper? Don’t movies cost the same? I mean some theatres do overprice big movies but certainly not all of them
simonegreco This film had tickets for $5 in specific theatres
simonegreco They explain it in the video.
@@kevinpauly6342 And they still couldn't get people to see the movie. I wouldn't be shocked if the theater count for this movie was cut down drastically this coming week and be totally out of theaters after that.
So sorry for your loss Dan. From your stories we know that your grandmother really nurtured your love of film. I am sure she was happy that you are working in a field you love and following your dreams. God bless her and your family.
I feel like we need a supercut of the countdown to Cats, chronicling Dan's ever increasing obsession with whatever this movie is
Joshua Price I imagine him writing on the walls like Russell Crowe in “A Beautiful Mind”, trying to figure out just how deep this whole CATS thing goes.
Karen Stepko I need someone to make an edit of that 😹
I think Dan said he'd do that 2 weeks ago
Yes someone please make this and share! 🙏🤞
Didn’t even know that movie existed, that’s on the marketing team
I thought it came out like 6 months ago.
No doubt they slashed the marketing budget for this one
T Electronix it did depending on where you live
I watch around 8 hours if UA-cam a day and i have not seen a single trailer at all.
My 4th grade teacher showed it to us 3 times throut the school year.
Lon's face when Dan is explaining how cats have 3 names was freaking priceless! Lol hahah
I know, I laughed so hard :D
Despite the fact that I watch tons of trailers, keep up on movie news, and even knew of this movie's existence & opening, I never saw a single ad, trailer, or promo of any kind for Playmobil. Aside from seeing the title mentioned on a list of movies being released in December, I heard absolutely nothing about it.
Same here buddy...
I honestly still don't really know what it is, I had never heard of it until this video.
Also, the film came out months ago internationally.
same here. WTF? This has been happening a lot....though, apparently this movie is just bad so deserved its lack of marketing.
Edit: but unlike you I had no idea of this movie's existence O_o
I saw one trailer for it when I saw Joker, the projectionist had Abominable loaded up so we saw the trailers in front of that.
Like Dan I also watched the Cats Musical over the weekend. I literally didnt sleep that night. I spent the whole night thinking, “what did i just watch?” “Was that it?” “Surely there’s more?” “How can they make a movie out of this?”
I saw the musical yeeeears ago. And hearing they were making a movie about it I assumed it was going to be animated type Lion King(Original, god I hate I need to clarify this now). And then the decisions started getting public... And this is the most accurate way to adapt Cats the musical. By doing every possible decision wrong. I could not be more excited.
I watched it at the theatre and I was just so confused. What was the point of it all?
I saw the musical early this year. I went in knowing it was about basically nothing and just sort of let the spectacle and music and atmosphere wash over me and I really loved it. I think it is the type of musical where you need the theater environment and the physical being with the performers to really get on board with it because even the recording doesn't do justice to the energy inside a theater that is performing it. The idea of a movie is an idea that shouldn't even be had.
So sorry for your loss, Dan. Good wishes from an internet stranger.
I'm so sorry for your loss Dan. Thank you for being such a constant throughout my week, I'm sure your grandmother was incredibly proud of you. Sending love to you and your family.
Deepest sympathy for the loss of your grandmother, Dan. Wishing you, Mara, and everyone in the Murrell family heartfelt condolences.
I say this completely un-ironically: the youth love Danny DeVito, he has achieved a significant niche in meme culture
This is the first I ever even heard of this Playmobil movie.
I only knew it existed bc they played the trailer before frozen 2. Other than that haven’t heard a single word
I only heard about it before a European UA-camr reviewed it a few months ago.
In France we had the trailers in Cinemas. It was so obviously a Lego rip off that I knew it would flop but not that bad. Oh and also to market it they had playmobile displays for children in my town's mall during the halloween break so they ruined my life by having children invade the mall for two weeks. This movie deserves hell.
This came and went in Europe (where Playmobil is more of a thing). I thought was out everywhere by now.
The marketing is pretty damn weak, they deserve this L
Dan, I’m sending you some major positive energy after all you went through last week. I woke up this morning in a bad mood for no real reason, but felt better when I remembered I could click on Charting. It turned out to be one of the best episodes you have ever done, and now I’m feeling so much better. I’m confident you’ve given your Memaw reason to be proud and that you have what it takes to get through any rough patch. Thanks for making my Tuesday mornings, Dan. You’re amazing. Lon, of course, you too. I’m wishing everyone at Fandom a joyous Festive Season.
Dan trying to explain the Cats storyline 🤣😂😂😂😭😭 I can’t stop laughing! 😆🤣😂
I've seen Cats 3 times on stage. Still have no clue who anybody is, what happens, or why it exists.
All I know is that Dan, Lon, and the Meowntdown are probably responsible for half the people going to see cats next week.
Aww...I'm sorry to hear you lost your Memaw, Dan
Dan, I tried to tell you...."Cats" is about Nothing!! Love you guys!
I prefer longer Chartings.
Listening to Dan talk about Cats is a form of advanced meditation. For a moment there, I experienced nirvana.
hard agree.
I really hope Cats gets us a Starlight Express movie so Dan can delve in to that, somehow, even weirded world.
Also, so sorry for your loss Dan. You’ve always spoke so lovingly of her.
Dan and Nick going to Jem & The Holograms, I'm thinking alcohol might've been involved, LOL
If it wasn't involved, it needed to be.
@@crowtrobot17 LMFAO!!!!
Is it too late to start a Go Fund Me for Europe to record a 'Final Meowntdown' intro? 😂
I’m rather sorry to say that the meowntdown has become one of the highlights of my week 😂.
Also my sincere condolences to Dan, I am so sorry for your loss
Saw Knives Out during Thanksgiving was a great murder mystery genre film we don't see often these days. Would enjoy to see more like it.
I'm definitely going to see Cats in the theater just because of this show
vistatrista7 I really didn’t like it when I saw it live in a theatre, but this show has made me want to torture myself and watch the movie 🤷♀️ why not
Yeah, the studio couldn't have asked for a better advertising.
All of us
I was going to anyway, but now I feel like I owe it to Dan 😂
(Here's hoping we get a screener leaked on Oscar season though because my country won't see it til february)
That's how I ended up seeing "The Meg" too from their countdown here lol
There’s audacity and then there’s seeing the last two LEGO-branded movies having diminishing returns and still pushing ahead with a movie about a knockoff LEGO brand at that budget.
I spent all summer watching kids movies with my family and the Playmobil and Arctic Dogs trailers played before almost every movie and they stood out in their blandness.
Playmobil as a toy is not a lego knockoff. It is very popular in Europe. The movie might be a knockoff. And no one wanted to see it.
Molson1015
Not sure why you assume Playmobil toys are Lego knockoffs. There isn’t much in common between the toy lines other than maybe the scale of the figures (and even that doesn’t match up). Lego is all built around the bricks and how you can build things with them. Playmobil is just about toy sets and figures, like almost every other toy line.
I'm pretty sure the only people who went to see Playmobil were families who got late to the theatre for Frozen 2.
I had no idea there was a Playmobile movie. How the hell do you have a wide release with NO marketing?!?
Sorry for your loss. Thanks for all the great work, it is appreciated.
Double charting. Aye!
A whole 40+ minutes!
I wanted another 90 minutes of Dan talking about Cats. Here's what I want: 1) Dan's review of the musical; 2) Forget Rise of Skywalker, we want the review of Cats the Movie!!
"It would be financially irresponsible to make that movie" You might be onto something there Dan.
At this point, it's sounding like many people will only go to see Cats just to witness how baffling it is. Truly, this is the only reason I'm wanting to see it because it looks so wild. But I don't... know if that can equal any kind of success? I guess we'll see.
I've never heard of Playmobil, movie or otherwise. "Several walkouts at an animation festival" made me laugh out loud.
I think Knives Out has proved that audiences are interested in murder mystery genre. And I'm one of them!
Chief then why didn’t murder on the orient express work? Lol
@@VNKNOWN_TX Actually, Express grossed quadruple its production budget domestically and an international hit.
In fact we're getting Death on The Nile next year.
The amount of patience I have waiting for this show on Monday nights... does not exist. I LOVE Charting & am excited for it every week! 😊😊😊 Glad to have you back, Dan! 😊
"$5 off chapstick. That's an expensive chapstick." 😂😂😂
"The theaters are getting $4.5/$5." 😂😂😂
KimOlson1993 it is absolutely not silly, you should unabashedly love what you love!!
"It would be irresponsible financially to make that film"
The most Dan Murrell sentence of the year.
If Dan and/or Roth are going to the critics screening of Star Wars, can't you get Danielle into the Cats screening?
I'm much more interested in a review of that trainwreck.
I have long held the theory that plays and movies that people don't understand get raves because they don't want anyone else to know that they don't understand it.....sort of an Emperor's New Clothes phenomenon.
Jumanji is a tricky one for comparing to the last. Welcome to the Jungle was a smash because of longevity rather than a massive opening, and if I recall correctly, that one opened in China a week or two after here in the States, so it was already building when it hit there rather than starting there.
Cats might break Dan.
The honest trailer will be legendary
@@TheLowBrassDude Absolutely
Update: It did.
Dan and Lon singing the opening to Cats is my favorite thing to ever happen on this channel. Lol!!
This is my favorite film oriented show on UA-cam. You guys are great together and and I wish you had additional shows where you worked together. Great job
(Sees length.) Wow they weren’t exaggerating when they said double charting this week! 😆😁😄
onequartercanadian Dan delivers on his promises. I wasn’t expecting him to produce the equivalent of two episode of Charting after missing one, but I loved it.
I was told If I went to see Never Surrender it would be on charting. 👀
Lon at 36:27 is me every day.
Lon's reactions to Cats are all great. 35:15 ''Throw their collar into Mt.Doom or whatever'' :'D
When the first time you hear of a wide release is on charting.
I can't believe how much I missed this show so much last week. Loved the double show. The Cats explanation was insane !
The return of charting!
The glint in Dan Murrell's eyes when he started to explain Playmobil (aka The Black Hole) was heartwarming. And the story told would make a great Netflix doc. That glint in his eye turned to pure joy when Dan began the CATS stats. It so pleasant to see people enjoy their work.
48 MINUTES WITH DAN AND LON! YAY!
It's a holiday season miracle!
little disappointed there was no recap of how never surrender documentary charted last week.
Yes, I was getting on to ask about this too!
37:45 That Lon look to the camera is exactly how I feel learning all this information from Dan lol
Also, so sorry for your loss Dan
Xvyolt “This is like a cry for help” 😂😂😂
I’m sorry for your loss, Dan. Sending you lots of love and strength.
Be gentle with yourself, Dan. It is tough to lose someone whom you love, especially right before Christmas. It is tough to be in the spotlight when you are grieving. It is tough to keep on producing content and meeting commitments when your heart is heavy. This is a time of year when you are typically working really hard to pretape SJU episodes, review films, and attend screenings for numerous Oscar contenders and holiday releases. I’m thankful that you’ve got some time off coming up over the holidays. I’m thankful that you have Mara, your mom, and that you work with a supportive group of friends who obviously really love you. You have been and will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. You’ve spoken before about the way your Memaw nurtured your love of film, dating back to her renting VHS tapes for you to watch at her house. I give thanks for the gift that she was in your life, because it has formed you into the person who you are today. You continue to be a gift to every one of us. My condolences.
Ahhhhhhh so nice to have you back Dan. I need the charts!
I am sorry for your loss Dan, I was not aware. Sending you much love and warmth.
Really sorry to hear about your grandma. I didn’t know her, (or you for that matter) but I’ve heard you talk about her in very positive and flattering ways. I too have an awesome grandma and her not being would be a huge readjustment in my life.
Now... now it's a good monday
I took a drink at 37:45 and nearly spat it back out after seeing Lon's reaction, lol!
Thanks for saving my Monday night, Dan and Lon.
My favorite show on Fandom/Screen Junkies and I don't even really care about numbers. You guys are carrying it on charisma and love for the numbers. Keep it up!
so Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt was more accurate about Cats than I thought
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Crazy Ex Girlfriend, and Curb your Enthusiasm all have bashed Cats so much these last couple years that I haven’t watched as an adult just to keep my foggy kid memory of it.
Was wondering all along where you went, Dan. I totally understand now. I send my condolences for your loss, and my thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. Do what you’ve got to do to care for yourself, brother.
I'm glad you're back Dan. You were missed. This show is one of the highlights of my youtube week.
After watching this I actually decided to ask my friends to go see Knives Out though it's not my usual kind of movie but I trust your tastes sir.
Looking forward to the final meowntdown and your review of this film.
I'm so sorry for your loss, Dan. Both of mine have gone already and it's really rough. Hugs!
The Dannys in Jumanji were brilliant! Much better than expected.
Love this show! Thanks guys!
Didn't know how much I was dependent on this show untill I started suffering from withdrawl last week
What good is selling cheaper tickets to your movie if nobody knows about it, and nobody even knows the movie exists.
As always love watching Dan and Lon break it down
Thanks for the long charting Dan I loved it ♥️♥️♥️
When I worked at a theatre, the trailer of Playmobil they pulled to play on the screens in the foyer was 240p and that kind of sums this movie up.
No charting last week I felt like an alcoholic without he’s bottle. Great to see you back this week really missed you last week!
Can you please keep on doing the Meowntdown until we've met all the cats? I need it, it's like heroin.
Almost 20 min of discussion about Cats and I couldn't be happier. Thank you Dan and team, you made my day.
On this week's episode of 'Charting with Dan':
Was ‘Frozen II’ able to *FREEZE* the competition during these last two weeks?
Were *KNIVES DRAWN* all these weeks for ‘Knives Out’?
Is ‘Ford v. Ferrari’ still *RIDING* along the Top 5?
Did ‘Playmobile: The Movie’ fail to *COME AND PLAY* this weekend?
Hi I'm Dan Murrell and I'm Lon Harris
and this is 'Charting with Dan' on Fandom Entertainment
Josh Rivera - I love these puns 😂😂
Josh Rivera I scrolled the entire section looking for your weekly post :D
Dan & Lon MUST go together on Friday night, Dec 20th, to see CATS at a local cinema!!! Priceless footage should ensue!
I just wanna know how many times the word cat is uttered in this video.
Diego Gomez The word “cat” or “cats” is uttered 100 times in this video ... and all but four of them take place between 29:25 and 44:25. You’re welcome.
@@kstepko thanks ma'am
R.I.P. Memaw. My condolences Dan.
Drink anytime Dan or Lon says "Prestige" 😂 Great video guys 😊
Yeah, Cats is a bit Canterbury Tales... but with music!
The story about why The Oggieloves got made was that the producer behind the American localization of the Teletubbies really wanted to make a Teletubbies film, but the creator of the Teletubbies said no. The film is really loosely based off of My Bedbugs.
Great episode like always! Especially playmobile investigation. And Cats stays on brand which is "nothing makes sense!"
I'm so sorry, Dan.
I have to be up 5 am (3 am EST) tomorrow, and here I am.
Everyone who previously didn't know the Cats musical discovering it honestly gives me life 😂 Dan's version of the first song is actually very much on point lmao
Much love to you Dan. Very sorry for your loss.
Was really hoping to hear how never surrender did! Its been three weeks plz someone tell me!
Emily Lyon According to BoxOfficeMojo, it made $222,971
I was really looking forward to getting the numbers treatment for Never Surrender too!!! I have faith Dan won't let us down. I want some bits numbers, I want some per theater numbers, I want the run down by state numbers. I want some BITS!!!
@@MommyOfMutants that works too haha, thank you!! But still definitely would have liked to hear the context charting provides ya know? Like is that good for how many screens it was on, and is that near what they expected/hoped? But they were super busy this week so i get it. Big thanks tho!
Loved the subtle MC Scat Cat reference Dan.
Dang it’s been awhile, I forgot how much I liked this show!!! And also Dan is a great host
When Dan said " one step forward two steps back " my mind flashed to the cat in the Paula Abdul video.
can’t wait to show my best friend the meow-ntdown compilation, dan’s descent into this rabbit hole is remarkably similar to the road she took me on
OH MY GOD YES!!! haven't even started the video yet lol
I see the disappointment in Dan's face about his first impression of Cats. Haha.
That Jellicle bar graph though LOL
Sadly portrait of a lady on Fire can’t be nominated at the oscars because France is brain dead and submitted “Les Miserables” instead. Portrait is a masterpiece while Les Mis is just fine.
It's frustrating isn't it? I haven't seen this version of Les Mis, but Portrait is astonishing. At least it has a Golden Globe nom - and will pick up some other awards along the way.
@@quirkyjoeAnimated les mis has nothing to do with Victor Hugo's les mis. they just have the same title. and Les mis is still a fine film but nothing truly special. Portrait of a Lady On fire is HAUNTING.
Thoughts with you and your family Dan, from random internet fan who reckons Memaw would be proud.
my commiserations on your loss there Dan. never a good time to lose a member of your family
Best episode ever!
Lon giving up during the Meowntdown is the most real reaction to Cats.
So what are the numbers on Never surrender? I was hoping to see some charts
