They’re both (In my mind) some of the worst animated films ever made, they both blatently plagarize The Lego Movie with little originality, they both have detestable characters that give their films a shockingly mean-spirited tone, and they both use so many cliches you’d think the writers couldn’t find anything fresh under the sun!

I may sound like I am going soft and I may like to hear Animat really rip it a new one when it comes to bad animated movies, but I’m not the type to judge to harshly. I mean, sure, it’s not something that would be my cup of tea, but if I had kids of my own, this would be something that they would enjoy and it is definitely a colourful kid distractor.

It’s called Playmobil: the Secret of Pirate Island. The cast is Canadian, which includes Scott McNeil, Ashleigh Ball, Lee Tockar, etc and most likely produced there as well. The animation is super cheap and the special effects are 2D drawings in a 3D environment.

Sure, the relevance of The Lego Movie may have faded, but this movie might have stood a better chance had they focused on making a good story. Unfortunately, that was never the intention in making this.
Fun fact: The script used in this movie was supposed to be the script The Lego Movie would use, but then the team members behind it knew that it won't work, so they remade the script. But, therefore, the writers of Playmobil The Movie used the old and "deleted" script that The Lego Movie was supposed to have.

You should have included Klaus the animated film from netflix on one of the best, for its stunning revival of 2D animation. It's pretty stunning that they were able to make a 2D film look 3D just by adding shadings and other effects on the background that makes the film look 3D but its actually 2D

This movie was released over here in Spain a few months ago, on August 30. Around three weeks after that release, I was left like with a very uninteresting lineup of movies and, since one of my two local theaters was still screening it, I was considering checking it out because of the negative buzz, just to see how bad it could be. However, in the end, I just chose to not spend my money on this in favor of just waiting until better and more interesting movies came out that would be a better use of my money than this one. Whenever I see reviews like this one, for some reason a part of me feels very proud of that decision. Almost like I had dodged a bullet there or something.
I don’t know if this makes you feel better or not, but the director of playmobil: the movie directed the new 40 minute Christmas special reindeer in here, which is based on the book & plush gift set of the same name. It’s a very funny and heartwarming special.
I had a feeling this would get a review the day it came out. Even Atrtic Dogs got a later review a week after it was released in the US. He probably wanted to get this over with and that's why we we got this early. 😁
The "I am your worst nightmare," "No, you're not a pinniata full of bees" joke at 2:46 is pretty much copied from The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, but drastically less funny. It's at the end of one of the trailers. A pinniata full of bees seems to have replaced "me when I'm late for school, forgot my homework, and my pants are made of pudding."
I would’ve been better if the story was about Emperor Maximus Taking over all of playmobil and the world was in trouble and the figures they played growing up came to life that were their characters who needed them to stop him and save playmobil also I would of liked it if Emperor Maximus had more scenes in the movie 😉

That Robot Chicken Playmobil sketch where two cowboys try to explore and adapt to the Playmobil world outside their comfort playzone is honestly a much better Playmobil movie than this.

Also, here’s an interesting fact: This was made by the same studio that made the Uglydolls movie. This makes sense because both movies share a lot of the same flaws, including being a Lego Movie knockoff, a soundtrack filled with generic pop songs, and animation that’s well done but has generic character designs
With LEGO Movie and Trolls, you can tell the animators were highly creative with the animation and wanted to make it as unique as possible. With Playmobil and Uglydolls, the animation is good, but also generic since the animation didn’t use the animation to its fullest potential.
Actually, the two movies weren't *made* by STX, they were both just distributed by them in the US. But yeah, this movie rips off lots of stuff, not even just the LEGO Movie

2019 kinda sucked in terms of animated films. The only good movies we’ve gotten are How to Train Your Dragon 3, The Lego Movie 2, Toy Story 4, The Missing Link (or so I’ve heard, I haven’t seen it myself) and possibly Frozen 2 (again, haven’t seen it yet). The rest have been mediocre at best.

This year is what I liked to call "The Animated Sequel Crash" Basically we have been getting way too much animated sequels shoved in our faces so much, its caused original animated movies to flop, but also sequels too. If you were not Toy Story 4, Frozen 2 or HTTYD 3, any sequel this year would flop in the box office, or be like Pets 2, where it would be deemed a disappoint to the studio. I remember seeing Angry Birds 2, while yes in my opinion, was a funny self-aware movie, in fact I found it so much better than the first movie, there was barely anybody there
At least it's not 2017 where most of the animated movies were terrible and Coco blew the other animated movies out of the water. 2019 had some amazing ones, like HTTYD3, Missing Link, The Lego Movie 2, Toy Story 4, Frozen 2 (YMMV), Klaus and great indie titles such as Weathering with You, I Lost My Body and more.
Honestly this movie was kinda dark at the beginning of the movie first there was a happy moment and then the movie slowly became a little bit dark when their parents died but then the movie turned out worse
To say much, I never really had the interest to Playmobil as much as LEGOs, while this product is only limited to one catagory each. With LEGOs can be whatever you want, as this just only becomes one thing. And this just proves it, like you can't change heads, you can't change sets, and you can't change the concept that you are, because your Not LEGOS!
Hollywoo needs to accept the fact that The LEGO Movie phenomenon was a lightning bolt that was never going to strike twice. Generic is exactly what describes this movie. Nothing about it is inherently Playmobil. All of it could be any Toy World or Kids' Imagination World. The Lego Movie worked because it was a story about Lego, not just taking place in it.

THE LEGO MOVIE: An unexpected little movie that made a huge impact in animation and a huge inspiration for Miles Morales and the Spider-Verse. PLAYMOBIL THE MOVIE: A desperate attempt to keep a dying brand from life support. At least it's not "that bad" as Arctic Dogs, but it makes Uglydolls and Wonder Park look a bit tolerable.

Let me tell ya, D(___) Figures The Movie came out that year.
It dosent just copy the LEGO movie... it also copies finding Nemo.. let me explain, it’s about this person who is full of Wonder, until a death from their loved one happens and left with one person to take care of then they one day run of to a place and get taken, and it’s up to that person + with a comic relief to save him. And later a person comes and tells the small boy the person is coming and did a lot to get him.

You should have included Klaus the animated film from netflix on one of the best, for its stunning revival of 2D animation. It's pretty stunning that they were able to make a 2D film look 3D just by adding shadings and other effects on the background that makes the film look 3D but its actually 2D

D(___) Figures The Movie (2013): Yo wassup I’m here to save the decade
This movie was released over here in Spain a few months ago, on August 30. Around three weeks after that release, I was left like with a very uninteresting lineup of movies and, since one of my two local theaters was still screening it, I was considering checking it out because of the negative buzz, just to see how bad it could be. However, in the end, I just chose to not spend my money on this in favor of just waiting until better and more interesting movies came out that would be a better use of my money than this one.
Whenever I see reviews like this one, for some reason a part of me feels very proud of that decision. Almost like I had dodged a bullet there or something.
I don’t know if this makes you feel better or not, but the director of playmobil: the movie directed the new 40 minute Christmas special reindeer in here, which is based on the book & plush gift set of the same name. It’s a very funny and heartwarming special.
I had a feeling this would get a review the day it came out. Even Atrtic Dogs got a later review a week after it was released in the US. He probably wanted to get this over with and that's why we we got this early. 😁

The "I am your worst nightmare," "No, you're not a pinniata full of bees" joke at 2:46 is pretty much copied from The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, but drastically less funny. It's at the end of one of the trailers. A pinniata full of bees seems to have replaced "me when I'm late for school, forgot my homework, and my pants are made of pudding."
I would’ve been better if the story was about Emperor Maximus Taking over all of playmobil and the world was in trouble and the figures they played growing up came to life that were their characters who needed them to stop him and save playmobil also I would of liked it if Emperor Maximus had more scenes in the movie 😉

Also, here’s an interesting fact: This was made by the same studio that made the Uglydolls movie. This makes sense because both movies share a lot of the same flaws, including being a Lego Movie knockoff, a soundtrack filled with generic pop songs, and animation that’s well done but has generic character designs
Uglydolls was more of a Trolls knockoff for me.
Cintrón Productions you know it sucks if it’s a knock off of an already bad movie.
With LEGO Movie and Trolls, you can tell the animators were highly creative with the animation and wanted to make it as unique as possible.
With Playmobil and Uglydolls, the animation is good, but also generic since the animation didn’t use the animation to its fullest potential.
Actually, the two movies weren't *made* by STX, they were both just distributed by them in the US. But yeah, this movie rips off lots of stuff, not even just the LEGO Movie

2019 kinda sucked in terms of animated films. The only good movies we’ve gotten are How to Train Your Dragon 3, The Lego Movie 2, Toy Story 4, The Missing Link (or so I’ve heard, I haven’t seen it myself) and possibly Frozen 2 (again, haven’t seen it yet). The rest have been mediocre at best.

This year is what I liked to call "The Animated Sequel Crash"
Basically we have been getting way too much animated sequels shoved in our faces so much, its caused original animated movies to flop, but also sequels too.
If you were not Toy Story 4, Frozen 2 or HTTYD 3, any sequel this year would flop in the box office, or be like Pets 2, where it would be deemed a disappoint to the studio.
I remember seeing Angry Birds 2, while yes in my opinion, was a funny self-aware movie, in fact I found it so much better than the first movie, there was barely anybody there
Missing Link was a great movie, but was a Box Office fail.
At least it's not 2017 where most of the animated movies were terrible and Coco blew the other animated movies out of the water.
2019 had some amazing ones, like HTTYD3, Missing Link, The Lego Movie 2, Toy Story 4, Frozen 2 (YMMV), Klaus and great indie titles such as Weathering with You, I Lost My Body and more.
Honestly this movie was kinda dark at the beginning of the movie first there was a happy moment and then the movie slowly became a little bit dark when their parents died but then the movie turned out worse
To say much, I never really had the interest to Playmobil as much as LEGOs, while this product is only limited to one catagory each. With LEGOs can be whatever you want, as this just only becomes one thing. And this just proves it, like you can't change heads, you can't change sets, and you can't change the concept that you are, because your Not LEGOS!

Hollywoo needs to accept the fact that The LEGO Movie phenomenon was a lightning bolt that was never going to strike twice. Until then they're just going to keep embarrassing themselves with these lazy, cynical ripoffs. @@chriswood-nostalgic8900 Yeah, but it's only being released on Netflix, which is a bummer because I would have liked to see that in theaters. I guess general moviegoers just don't care for stop-motion, and that's depressing because the animators work long hours day in and day out just to get a second or two of finished footage, and the fact that they receive so little money for their efforts is heartbreaking honestly.

I recently watched the movie and I didn't hate it for being a ripoff, I hated it for being so boring.

Generic is exactly what describes this movie. Nothing about it is inherently Playmobil. All of it could be any Toy World or Kids' Imagination World. The Lego Movie worked because it was a story about Lego, not just taking place in it.

Moral of the story: Never make an animated film based on a popular toy line that bears striking similarities to another popular toy line that already has its own animated feature, with the last minute addition of songs where audiences wouldn't know until the premiere.
I'm not surprised this movie flopped so hard!

You know, when I was a kid, both Lego and Playmobile both with Ancient Egypt-themed set. As someone who loves Ancient Egypt , I actually preferred the Playmobile ones, since it was normal Egyptian city, as opposed to the Lego which was about an Idiana Jones-expy fighting mummies.
