Do you think Avengers: Endgame will become the highest grossing film of all time?

YES! It'll absolutely be the highest grossing Superhero movie/Highest Grossing movie of all time. It would take a really exceptionally well written movie to come remotely close to matching & exceeding it at the box office.
Fandom Entertainment Yes, but, like how ssllloooowwww it took for Captain Marvel to hit a billion worldwide, it’ll be a ssssllllooooowww burn for Avengers: Endgame to top Avatar. I’m gonna say Endgame will top Avatar by end of May or early-to-mid June.
Yes. It should pass Avatar by Aladdin weekend.
siamesebb Too early. I say 1-2 weeks after Aladdin opens.
Yes but it'll be a bit slow going from now on with China pretty much done with its run.
It wasn't the iceberg that sank the titanic it was the Avengers.
Nope. It hasn't beat Titanic. There is something called inflation.
Purefoldnz so Titanic hasn’t beaten Gone with the Wind ?
word. they have time left to remove that avatar movie from the top.
@@purefoldnz3070 inflation may be the biggest factor, but home media wasn't the Juggernaut it is today 20 years ago and piracy.
Actually avatar sunk the titanic first lol
Week 4 of requesting the "Charting" graphic being corrected to "Charting With Dan"
I'm totally with you
Hear Hear
Maybe they should put it in an explosion shaped bubble at the right corner that "With 50% Dan" as they do with orange juices and such.. I mean not like they have Dan in orange juices.. you get the idea.
A theory of mine is someone is planning to take over Charting... I suspect Joe, he is the kind of guy.. he is like the Loki of SJU.
I am planning on seeing Endgame two more times myself, so looking forward to seeing where it ends up.
I still haven't see it but I'm gonna watch it tomorrow because my friends invited me. We're to busy for work, but the same time we're also a fan
I know several people that haven't seen it yet that I know still want to go. I think now we're moving into the time when a lot of casual viewers will be going to see it, and a lot of of "I guess if that's so successful I'll go and see what all the buzz is about" business.
Just booked to see it the second time at an IMAX theatre.
"As a journalist, which I am not."
I think Dan, with all these well researched video you've done analyzing numbers and debunking myths you've done plenty of journalism.
I'd just add that by having a subscription, you're more likely to visit THAT chain, even if another chain's theater has a more convenient showtime. You're also more likely to push that chain's theaters when figuring out with friends where to see it.
*Titanic:* I don't feel so good, Mr. Cameron.
Disney: I feel so good Mr. Box Office.
👏👏👏😂😂😂
mua ha ha.
I think it will beat Avatar only because Endgame gave Captain Marvel a good bump almost 2 months later. Spider-Man Far From Home should give Endgame a bump come July if it needs it
I think. This is what's gonna happen
ok but that bump would be maybe 20ish million, not rly that significant
Here’s a question-will Far From Home boost Endgame’s box office in two months? Will people want to see it again pre the final phase three installment?
Spider-Man Far from home is phase 4 or whatever they call the post phase 3 MCU. Sony just refused to wait another year
The ad I saw (that was SO GOOD!) for Far From Home actually had a bumper at the start with Tom Holland saying 'if you haven't seen Endgame then stop watching because there are huge spoilers'.
I mean, he wasn't saying that you **have** to have watched Endgame before Far From Home but, still....
Nah they specifically said it was the last movie of phase 3. But I think there will be an effect because the same thing happened with Captain Marvel. That's still in the top5 because of Endgame imho
@@Phelie315 The same thing happened with Black Panther and Infinity War. Black Panther got a boost when Infinity War came around. But let's not forget that it didn't do any good for Ant-Man and the Wasp, which underperformed despite Infinity War having come out.
Eric Tortora Pato I think Far From Home will make a billion and get that Iron Man 3 bump
It's okay, Dan. Everyone forgets Canada. We're used to it.
@Marcus Middleton That is a better question.
It's not even a real country anyway
Mexico is in the middle east you dumbass.
@Marcus Middleton Mexico has its own box office. It's not Domestic.
Sorry about that, eh.
Been waiting to see how Endgame did since last week!
Charting with Dan is becoming my favorite thing to watch on UA-cam!
Becoming?! 😁
It's been a rough day. Been looking forward to this. Thank you
Thank YOU for watching and hope you have a great rest of your week!
Thanks. You all too!
Endgame made $1.2B in days 1-5 and it made another ~$1B between days 6-12. I don't see how it doesn't make the $600 million required to match Avatar for the rest of its run. I think that by the end of next weekend it'll be at $2.5B, maybe even $2.6B.
Also, Endgame made $560 million plus worldwide from Monday-Thursday, so that ‘s the reason why the worldwide total is almost $1 billion more after this weekend, compared to last weekend’s total
Hey Avatar! ON YOUR LEFT!!!
Never a more exciting time for some charts!
Hey! Greetings your majesty
Lon and Dan make a good team.
Dan: detailed explanation I can't understand.
Lon: simple translation.
Rewatch Dan: detailed explanation I CAN understand.
I REALLY want Endgame to beat Avatar. Because personally I don't like James Cameron and I didn't think Avatar was a good movie. It just had some great new tech that you had to see in theatres or else it was lost on you.
I have my issues with Endgame but overall I think it's a better movie than Avatar.
I agree. Avatar ripped off the plot of Dances with wolves and put a 3d gimmick on it and put it in space. I do not understand why that movie is so popular at all.
@@pauleckert4321 cuz your brain is to small to understand that.
@@gurp1997 lol, if his is small then yours must be imaginary
Everyone reading this, try to remember one single characters name without looking it up. I saw it 3 times and still can't remember 🤷♀️ (Ps oc love profile pic hehe)
Same! Same! Same! Same! Same! "Endgame" at least deserves it, culturally.
A good film knows no race or region, because of the UNIVERSAL TRUTH it speaks.
Gone with the Wind was pre TV. there wasnt much else to do but sit on the porch and jaw. I bet people went to see it a dozen times
Being a great film might of helped to
If Endgame doesn’t beat Avatar I’d be shocked
J. Will avatar wasnt even that good story wise.
I'll be shocked if avengers endgame doesn't cross 3billion.
I shall sacrifice a Navi to the Cinema Gods for their aid in Endgame's dominance.
@@qtaro-7097 neither is Endgame...Time Travel??? Really???
@@qtaro-7097 Neither was EG, if we go by singular movie.
I hope Endgame beats Avatar and crosses the 3.2 billion dollar mark. Cameron making those bad remarks was just BS.
I believe that it will cross Avatar however its clearly impossible that the movie will cross the 3.2 billion dollar mark because of the Detective Pikachu movie releasing this weekend that could potentially slow down the Avengers box office.
@@urmommma4942 Detective Pikachu only opened at #3 in Japan.
Agreed! Cameron thinks his films are that good, but Alita Battle Angel & the Terminator reboots weren't well received, and Alita was thought to be able to beat Capt. Marvel, which has made $1.120 Billion to date.

$600M to beat Avatar. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Lets all make a pact to see "Endgame" again this weekend.
This time next week "Endgame" should have beaten "Avatar."
Endgame made 2.1 Billion Dollars in 12 days.
Disney owns 4.5 of the top 5 grossing movies of all time (Paramount and Fox co-produced Titanic, but I mean, Disney could just pay them off 😂)
Well they own 16 of the 20 highest grossing movies of all time. 8 of the 10 highest and the top 5. Disney is the King of the World Cinematic Universe.
Box office records: Exist
Endgame: i'm gonna end this man's whole career
His whole career? The Man is a legend who has 2 of the top 3 highest grossing movies of all time...His mark has already been made whether you like him or not
@@jesseswarbrick7895 I was refering to box office records that Endgame demolish
I don't know how many people remember but all that money Avatar made wasn't just for one release. I remember it being re-released in August 2010 with like 8 minutes of additional footage-I think it was the DVD cut. But it was only released to IMAX and 3D theatres. I wonder how Endgame would do if they re-released it in Fall..or even re-release Infinity War with extra footage and Endgame with additional footage like in September or October.
We all know Endgame will never beat Gotti, so what's the point?

Hey Dan. I live in Kentucky and the Derby no doubt had an effect on the End Game box office as well. Not only is it huge for my state, tons of parties and get togethers, but it's a worldwide event as well.
12:30 thank you Dan, sincerely. I’ve been so curious about this.
Last time I got excited about a movie beating Avatar was Force Awakens. I begged people on every SNS to go see it because it’s just not worthy of that slot. I saw it 4 times imax 3D for 2 of them but I was let down. I’ve seen Endgame 4 times and going for a 5th and God I hope it does it.
If my calculations are right, then Endgame will make around $175 millions domestically from Monday to Sunday. And at least $350 millions internationally from the same period if not more. That adds up to around $2.725 BILLIONS. It’s just a matter of time to dethrone Avatar. And might cross the $3 Billion marl at the end of May.
Definitely Far from home will help in month
I mean to be fair...May isn't summer either.
?? Exactly? Summer starts in June idk who decided to include it
wish this was offered as a podcast. it would be perfect for my lunch-time walks around the campus of Notre Dame.
Thanks for the heads up on The Wandering Earth. It sounded intriguing when you first mentioned it, but I don't live near any theaters that would play it. Time to hit up my Netflix account.
+1
I love Lon's Fraggle/Casterly Rock shirt!
Anyone know where he got it???
Talk to me after Avenger End Game has been out for 140+ days. Next weekend will say nothing about this movie’s ability to beat Avatar.
Ive seen it 5 times and will definitely be seeing it again to help hulk smash this record
I'm still planning to see Endgame again next week with my brother. And one of my friends still hasn't seen it. No clue if that will be enough, but I feel like Endgame will still get decent Box Office numbers next week. I LOVE this Charting talk with Endgame. I'm such a numbers and statistics nerd and I really love listening to how different movies performed week to week and that's why I adore Charting with Dan so so much.
Here’s where I see Endgame heading in the coming weeks:
This coming weekend: $2.5-$2.55B WW
Next weekend: $2.65-$2.7B WW
Memorial Day Wekeend: $2.75B WW
The first weekend of June: $2.775B WW
The second weekend of June: $2.8B WW
I think that in some point of his life, James Cameron met a guy named Crowley. That's the only explanation lol
Wonder when his 10years are up 😂

I can’t wait to see the numbers for next weekend. Detective Pikachu could be big, and I’m so curious to see how everything ends up down when the dust settles.
I'll admit I am pretty excited to see if Avengers will beat Avatar. I remember tracking the first Avengers film in 2012 hoping that it would beat Avatar lol.
Lon, this is not 'Nam. This is weather. There are rules.
Damn. Waiting for charting with Dan is truly a long wait
Been waiting for this all week!
To clarify, "all week" since last Monday
Been waiting ALL WEEKEND for this!!!
For those complaining..."Real Summer" the season is from June 21 (solstice) to September 21 (equinox). "Movie Summer" is first weekend of May through Last weekend of August.

Is 'The Intruder' *INTRUDING* and being rude in its chart position?
Does 'Long Shot* have a *LONG SHOT* at being a box office success?
Did 'Uglydolls' *REAR IT'S UGLY HEAD* this weekend?
Hi I'm Dan Murrell and I'm Lon Harris
and this is 'Charting with Dan' on Fandom Entertainment!
Roth would be proud lol
Thank you Lon and Dan for the PSA about Wandering Earth. Didn't know it was on Netflix.
today has been so shitty but i got so happy after seeing charting uploaded
I like Lon, but I really miss Roth.
I really appreciate the hard work, guys. I love watching Charting with Dan.
I just realized it's one year since watching charting. I discovered it after Infinity war. It's just amazing. Go on Dan!
So excited for Charting! I love watching this show! Makes Mondays worthwhile! :)
Endgame is going to wind up well ahead of Avatar. It won't even be that close.
Also a big thing to point out is as far as I understand, China wasn't such a big market 10 years ago. Yes it is cyclical but as I understand the Chinese market has grown exponentially over the past decade.
I'm already planning to take my mom to see Endgame for mother's day, so there's another $20 from me.
Have you taken your mom to all the other mcu movies? If not, you probably should take her to see long shot if you really want her to have a good time lol
Animan98 i did exactly the same thing 😁
ness selfish my mom’s not a hardcore fan but she’s seen most of the movies at least once, whereas this will be my 4th time watching Endgame.
#1 captain marvel. Thank you VERY MUCH.
Been waiting for this! I always spend Monday forgetting that I have to wait til Tuesday for this! Struggles of being in Australia!
Love your passion for all things movies for years now, keep it up. This is my favourite kind of math.
What was the big deal with Avatar? It was ok, but watching it I never would have guessed it was the highest grossing movie world wide.
It hit at the perfect time. It was one of the first movies to be shot for 3D. It was released at the heart of the 2008 Recession and its visuals provided escapism for many people. It didn't really have much competition and allowed it to run for forever in theatres. It was a rogue wave with many factors both within and outside the control of the movie contributing to its massive success. That's my take on it
Anyone else think the question asked about movie subscription services impacting ticket sales was actually asking how it impacted the number of tickets sold, not how much money the studio gets per ticket?
Everyone keeps comparing Endgame and Avatar, but Avatar stayed in theaters for a _very_ long time. Look at the domestic gross: Endgame did $620M in 10 days. In 10 days, Avatar had grossed 212M of the 750M it grossed domestically. And overseas, in those 10 days, Endgame did 1.5B, while Avatar did 410M. It took 8 (eight!) weeks for Avatar to reach 1.5B overseas, and the same time to reach 637M domestically. So yeah. Endgame crushed Avatar.
Since you had Infinity War last year, it’s unwise not to include End Game. How often do you have such large and compelling, record breaking movies in back to back years.
"How many scenarios did we fail to beat Avatar in?"
"Only one, Tony...only one."
Is "We're in the Endgame Now" the new modern go to movie quote?
Three things about Endgame vs. 1st 3 major May releases:
- In this weekend last year domestically Infinity War made $62 million (45% drop from the previous weekend's $114 million) against Deadpool 2's $125 million opening. While I feel like Pikachu is going to be popular domestically, it would have to be a massive success to open close to what Deadpool did. Note: it's hard to compare worldwide because this weekend last year was when Infinity War opened in China.
- John Wick has been gaining in popularity but the openings of the previous two are modest compared to most summer blockbusters and most of its popularity is domestic (it does ok worldwide)
- Infinity War definitely benefitted from Solo underperforming beginning Memorial Day weekend. Aladdin is there this year and there is definitely some trepidation about it, so that could underperform at least domestically, if not worldwide.
It's still debatable whether it can catch Avatar at this point but my point is, while the upcoming May releases will have some effect on Endgame going forward, it is not a guarantee it will be profound either.
I would have watched a video of Dan and Lon arguing with weather. It’s a shame we won’t be getting to see that.
I don't really get why so many people point so hard to inflation. Yes it's an interesting alternative to look at, but there are so many other factors in play than just the value of money + average price of tickets that makes it also extremely imperfect and arguably biased towards older movies.
God I hope it beats it. I'm sry but looking back at Avatar it's not very good now a days
People were fascinated because it was a technological breakthrough and everyone wanted to experience it first hand. There was also a lot of buzz about how it was, at the time, the most expensive movie ever made. Even back then, very few people considered it a great movie.
also Dan you have made me a bigger nerd than i already was, i get so excited with the box office!
Thanks Lon. I had no idea The Wandering Earth was on Netflix. Ive been wanting to see that film. Thanks for the update.
I Saw Wondering earth, It was not subtitled. The version I saw was dubbed. If you liked Armageddon or Deep Impact, you will like this movie. - the premise is a combination of these 2 films. It's a slow start but the last hour will have you at the edge of your seat and the Visuals are amazing. There's a shot of Jupiter towards the end that left me in absolute awe.
Lol avatar 2 won't even make half as much as its predecessor. How many people remember that main characters' name? Very few I guarantee.
Blue people. Frank from Friends. Wheelchair. Acid.
Well lon became my favourite charting partner over the last few weeks
"...second or third or fourth or fifth or eighth viewing." I was laughing at that. Who would go see the same movie eight times? Then it suddenly occurred to me that I've seen it four times and would like to see it again.
Also, "Avatar" wasn't even that good. It was just "Dances With Wolves" with blue aliens on dragons rather than Indians on horseback. It was the exact same story! You could add "Pocahontas" to that same story list too if you want.
James Cameron cares about it A LOT.
Love Charting with Dan...and props to you for always showing journalistic integrity when delving into the issues.
Thanks Dan for saying Canada is included in domestic gorsses I always thought it was just the US and Canada was international. I say endgame 3 times 🍻
Been waiting for this one!!!!
I'm excited to see Wandering Earth. I've been looking for it ever since it showed up on Charting. I'd love to see a chart for top grossing foreign films that you follow throughout the year. Domestic gross, global gross, and foreign produced global gross.
Do you think it'll ever be possible to beat the Gone with the Wind domestic record? Considering movies don't play that long in theatres anymore and many other factors.
I have seen it twice on our local IMAX Theater and I am planning on going back again to see it
10:30 The world population post-snap was still more than the world population when Gone With the Wind was released.
I miss the old intro of a sped up version of a reactor shutting down with a fart at the end, great show as always btw
Thanks dan!!!! Love charting as always!!!!!
I started chanting "charting, *charting*, CHARTING, *CHARTING!*" when I saw this in my feed.
I literally looked for this video like 5 minutes ago and then I get a notification for it 😂
Once I got the signal that you were no longer looking for it I made the call and published it :D
Im so glad you explained about subscription services and how they pay out to the studios. I've been signed up to Odeon Limitless (kind of a UK version of the AMC deal) and was very curious if me seeing a film made any money for the studios. Thank you!
I don't know how much of an effect it would have but certainly in some European countries the beginning of May normally includes a day or two of holiday whether that be on the 1st of May (e.g. Poland/Slovenia) or the first Monday of May (UK) which may have given a worldwide boost in the second week/third week.
Avatar opened in 74 other foreign markets aside from China while Endgame only opened in 52 (Box Office Mojo). That's a lot of foreign territories not covered.
Well if you want to factor that in, then you should include Endgame opened up in 1200 more theaters than Avatar
@@jesseswarbrick7895 True. Avatar was rereleased in about 800 theatres again though which narrows it down a bit (i think).
With all of that said, by how Endgame is tracking now, it is still possible to top Avatar world wide, about 200mil more or it might just be a few mil short.
It's trending like infinity war by this time last year domestically so about 80mil and hopefully internationally it will bring about 120mil more. *fingers crossed*
Dan and Lon are awesome together. Keep Lon, on the show.
So much charting excitement!
Just putting the question and idea out there, do you think the spoiler ban being lifted on May 6th will effect Endgame? Meaning that everyone was trying to go before that date and see it so it won’t be spoiled, but now it can be.
People in the UK don't tend to rush out to see films from personal experience. They tend to want to see things as a group. Most outer London screenings of Endgame are still about half full throughout the day, maybe more for evening showings. We also had a bank holiday and have another bank holiday and half term coming up. I do think there is potential for the UK to bump up some of the revenue throughout May. I'm not sure how well Detective Pikachu will do over here.
"Long Shot" was A LOT more crude than the trailers led me to believe. Also, I saw 2 trailers and felt like I'd seen the whole movie.
