Will see it this weekend
I do not plan to see any of the Disney "live action" remakes of their "classic" animation films as I was never enamored of any of them. I think I was born at either the wrong or right time (depending on one's perspective) and I was too young for the previous generation of Disney Animated Films to really strike a chord with me and too old for what everyone calls the renaissance of the Animated feature films from them. I watched all of them, but none of them have a "special place" in my mind like many seem to.
On the other hand, I am RIPE for the new Comic Book movie revolution currently in full tilt right now. I am a huge fan of the MCU, and the latest movies from DC (starting with Wonder Woman) have been really fun. I wonder, in 30 years, will a whole new generation look at THESE movies as "there" movies that they will look forward to taking their kids to see the remakes in hopes that they too will love them as much as they did?
Only time will tell.
I watched Aladdin and Booksmart with my family this past weekend. Everyone agreed that Booksmart was the much better movie, honestly it’s probably the funniest movie I’ve seen this year.
I also appreciate that they are now making sure to let us know that Roth is still with Fandom Entertainment. 😂
I saw Aladdin when I was a small child and don't feel inclined to see it again.
I saw "Aladdin" last Monday. It was very enjoyable. Some characters don't match up well compared to their 1992 animation counterparts, but I thought Will Smith was terrific as the Genie and his rendition of "Friend Like Me" made the film a thumbs up. Good fun for the family. I read on IMDb trivia that Jim Carrey was the first choice to play the the genie but wasn't available due to impending lawsuits. If that's true, then I think Disney dodged a bullet on that one. Will Smith is the best choice.
Also, I saw "Booksmart". It was very funny and fresh for a coming-of-age film. Well worth your time. Kaitlyn Dever and Beanie Feldstein make a wonderful comedy duo. Two thumbs up.
A solo Dan Charting is better than no charting at all.

Dan is part of the awesome backbone of Screen Junkies/ Fandom Ent. He’s so genuine that a solo show is still great.

Booksmart doesn't look like a film you really need have the theater experience, definitely an appealing home rental.

Aladdin is a guaranteed success no matter what. Also it helps that the movie was surprisingly good and enjoyable. Will, Mena and Naomi nailed their roles.

I find myself every Monday, ( far this week's Tuesday) waiting anxiously for charting to come out. My inner math nerd geeks out, I find it so interesting and Dan is just the best.
I'm always amazed when Dan's by his own, I can't even imagine just talking into a camera for nearly half an hour and making it as entertaining as he can.
Great work by Dan, impressive if this was all done in one take with no edits.
Dan should have saved that "lion's share of the box office" line for Lion King.
If I was in charge I would never waste time and money releasing comedies in theaters.
The viewing experience for comedies is just better in the comfort of your own home. You can laugh as much and as loud as you want, you can rewind to see funny scenes over and over, and it encourages you to watch with friends.
It's a new market where movie genres have options to best reach an audience.
I too think that Dan is more than enough all by himself. But him pulling a random tourist off the streets might be epic. And has anyone else notice how friendly and encouraging this comment section is week to week? It is a testament to how great the show is. Thank you Dan for your time and effort.
When I saw “Wishes come true” in the thumbnail, I thought it was about how we still got Charting with Dan after Memorial Day

Dan, I like it when you have people to bounce off of, mostly because I tend to like your co-hosts, Roth, Lon, Danielle, Joe etc, are fun to watch. However, I also like it when it's just you, because you're awesome to watch in about any situation.
You're like the Movie Avenger, charting and movie knowledge are your super powers. Yes, it's awesome when you're in the team up episodes, or the crossover episodes, but you're also fantastic in your own solo adventures. Like our own Captain A-Murrel-ica.

Great episode, I know you may not prefer to do a solo episode Dan, but I find it entertaining and very informative. I love looking at box office numbers with and without adjusted for inflation. Because it's fascinating.

Dan is the best part of Charting with Dan. The co-hosts are great, but Dan is why I tune in.
The Sting? Fascinating, I had no idea it was such a big hit. I've always loved that string of 70's films: Bonnie and Clyde, Straw Dogs, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, etc. Great time in American cinema.

I think Avengers might over take avatar when spider-man comes out. Avengers' release pushed Captain Marvel back to number 2 at the box office. If the Spiderman movie has a similar effect on Avengers, it might take avatar.
I hope it does. Antman 2 didn't help infinity war's box office.
@@tommythedog3009 True, but Ant-Man and the Wasp was more of a stand-alone story whereas Far from Home is marketed on Peter dealing with the Endgame aftermath. This could be a factor.

I saw Booksmart this weekend, deserves more support!
Booksmart would've done a lot better if it opened about the third week of July, or at the least maybe June 21st ( a little closer to H.S. graduations and not a huge amount of competition)

I like to imagine everyone just collapsing around Dan under the pressure and amount of charts, leaving only Dan standing. There are people all around on the floor as he is speaking.
I feel like Booksmart was released end of May to coincide with HS students actual graduation time frames but I think this movie works even better with people in their 20s/early 30s where that timing would be irrelevant. An August release, similar to Girls Trip, would have worked better. After a summer of seeing big event tentpoles, a comedy with your girlfriends would have been fun.
Dan you're always so clear and organized in your presentations, I really admire that about you!

Yay! I love this show! The box office has always seemed so complicated but this show simplifies it perfectly!
I also learn about so many new movies. For example, this weekend I finally watched "The Wandering Earth" and I wouldn't have watched it if it wasn't for this show!

I saw Booksmart last night (Tuesday) and it was packed. The entire audience loved it so hopefully it grows with good word of mouth over time. I’m definitely going to see it again.

Summer is really a difficult time for small movies to be released. Out of the top 5 this week, I have only seen Endgame... and my plan is to see all of them. Also I want to see Godzilla, so very difficult for a movie to gain my interest unless reviews are exceptional.

Hey Dan, next time you have to do one of these all by yourself, I think you should just pretend to go crazy. You should do Lons voice and ask questions and you should do Joe's voice and ask really silly questions. Just turned it into 30 minutes of watching Dan go crazy. I would watch the hell out of that. But this was still enjoyable 😊

A solo CwD works for me. Keeps things focused on the numbers and audience reception which is really the main reason I watch this show.
The 1992 Aladdin is my favorite Disney movie so I was worried about the new Aladdin but I was pleasantly surprise on how much I enjoyed the new Aladdin.
