    Welcome to the Land Rover life! I spent $4,500 4 years ago for a piece of junk 2006 LR3 V6 with about 165k miles with literally 28 different engine codes and front-end air suspension problems as well. Turned out, one front air distribution valve and one new battery (Land Rover are power hungry) and all issues went away. Since then, I’ve been doing basic maintenance and have had no problems with now over 200,000 miles and most of them off road. I found your channel because my tailgate just quite working this week, and have been researching fixes. Keep up the repairs and you wont be disappointed. It is the smoothest riding vehicle I have ever had and a beast off road. Bit of advice, bypass the bleeder valve for the coolant with a piece of copper pipe, Its a known week spot and will cause you problems.

      It is truly with the greatest sadness that after I completed the waterpump repair expecting to have our beloved LR3 back in full splendor and brilliance, when doing the warm up check on the engine, to my horror and disbelief I came to realize that the great "steam, and smoke" event that my wife described with the vehicle was actually blowing one or possibly both head gaskets. Utter sadness ensued realizing the severity of trauma and disrepair that our most trusted, stalwart family servant and silent hero of the last 14 years had landed in, as if looking at it laying in the ICU with the heart monitor having essentially flatlined, and all the Dr's and nurses having bowed and revently nodded their heads. Their lays the greatest friend of our family having been entrusted with us all on every fun occasion starting with the birth of our oldest daughter of 14 years old through every fun drive, mountain excursion, pulling our camping trailer with aplomb getting us out and back on hundreds of fun short and long adventures.
      Now there she sits, having given her all. Hopefully, it's not seriously damaged, but the paddles of life will once against be needed along with a lengthy tear down a form of open heart surgery if you will.
      I have chronic arthritis affecting me from my neck to my knees, but especially my back along with many surgeries throughout as my body stopped producing growth hormone some 20 years ago; a diagnosis takes 10 years on average. So, I sadly at 60 with an 85 year old skeleton am not up to that back breaking (for me) task.
      We're just stunned, still in shock at the tragedy we face.

    • @wafflesquare
      @wafflesquare  Рік тому

      @fredkesler7511 that is such a shame! Typically blown head gaskets are symptomatic of some other cooling issue. Hopefully they blew before any serious damage to the cylinders occurred.

    Take the pressure test cap off the overflow tank and your coolant would come flying out. Just like putting a straw in your drink and putting your thumb on the end of the straw. Pull the straw out and the liquid stays in your straw. Remove your thumb and the liquid come flying out. I knew when you tried pumping up the pressure to get the coolant to drain before you removed the water pump it would come gushing out. Love your video and thank you for the information. I’m keen to see the transmission fluid change. I was told by two different dealerships, as well as an independent shop that the transmission change is not recommended if the fluid change is unknown and is over 100,000 miles

    • @wafflesquare
      @wafflesquare  2 роки тому

      In our case, there is a transmission fluid leak(hopefully just from the pan) and the transmission is slipping between 2nd & 3rd gear. Therefore I have to at a minimum remove the pan. While already at that point, I am going to change the solenoids and Mechtronic seal adapter inside and replace the pan, filter, and fluid.

    • @bigfilsing
      @bigfilsing 2 роки тому +1

      There are quite a few people that recommend a "flush" rather than just a drain , filter swap & refill. I always wonder if that actually helps and i guess with trans issues costing big bucks to repair maybe its worth considering.

    If you still have a coolant leak check the big thermostat housing under the front of the intake manifold. It’s above the water pump. It’s plastic and eventually cracks. Also the bleeder tee is a common failure point on these which is why they get removed over the years. If you are vacuum filling the coolant you really don’t need to bleed. At least I haven’t and I have driven almost 100k miles and flushed the coolant multiple times. I think any dexcool coolant works in these engines.

    Hey Mike, how has that water pump been working for you? I installed mine, same exact as yours, a couple months ago and can observe a slight wobble at the pulley attached to it and also at the crankshaft pulley. I replaced the primary/main tensioner maybe a month ago due to bad bearings and that fixed the wobbles but when I replaced the alternator a week ago, the wobble has returned. Any ideas? It's almost like the new alternator put things out of balance somehow.
