Had a bimmer in today for work - I've serviced a lot of cars, never seen an oil filter coated with a solid, toffee consistency layer of hardened oil, 5mm thick, all over the filter. Took a screwdriver to dig down into it to get to even see the filter paper. Zero oil was passing through that filter. Nada. Dropped the "oil" & it was the consistency of tapioca. All 3 liters of it. Going by the drain plug, the filter housing & just general nouse, I reckon that this car had never had an oil change since new. 140k km on the clock. Service book all stamped up to date nice & purty... Brakes were in no better state. A lot of garages out there pulling peoples plums IMO, Baz - they get the bills, but not the work done. There's a Dayco instruction video on UA-cam "Garage Wire" Channel showing this solenoid being removed to check and clean the mesh strainer.

In 1989 we bought a brand new Ford Fiesta Popular with a powerful 998cc engine (don't laugh) It was a simple OHV Kent engine. Alright, it couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding but it was reliable, cheap to run and a very simple engine to work on. I changed the oil and filter every 5,000 miles and the only thing that it needed was the tappets fiddling with every now and then. At 12 years old and 70,000 miles I traded it in for a new Si (wow now that could really shift. Question: Do you think they are making modern engines more complicated and more expensive to fix on purpose?
It's all about emissions these days. Smaller engines with multi valves, twin cams and turbos to maintain performance. Reliability does not enter into it. 😕
Good news for customers though, all those with vehicles under 10 years old, under 150k and have FSH from any independant garage get this done under goodwill from now on by ford
Not true, if engine goes bang, i have seen many forum posts of people that tried to claim the extended warranty. Ford required the print out of every service including all parts used, must be a ford filter and the requirement for the ford castrol magnetech oil This must be written on the print-out. A simple stamp in the service book isn't enough. A second owner would not have this info and if it had been serviced at an independent they may not have recorded or used the correct oil brand.
And I was told by 3 different ford dealers won't repair until the engine light comes on fullservice history, ticking time bomb, said it only happens on focus iv a ecosport same engine. Part exed it 43000,not waiting for the big bang! Never a ford again.
Did Ford and others really believe that wet belts would last for the life of the engine. In these days of environmental madness it doesn't make sense to make bodies that will last twenty years but mechanicals half that.
Did this car shake on idle? Mine started wobbling while idle then started rattling. The oil light stayed on for a few seconds on start up but went off. I eventually checked the dip stick and it was dry. I put oil in the car started running fine and i drove it to the dealership i got it from and traded it in for a new ecoboost with a chain
What is the miles of that car? I don't see many 1.0 eco boosts in the UK. Ford engine goes badly later than 2012 models. Who the heck designed a rubber belt soaked in oil?
There’s no way Ford didn’t know the wet belts were a disaster waiting to happen with all the dyno testing they do in the factory to make sure the engines they put out to market don’t self destruct after a few thousand miles.. all the Ford owners should band together and sue ford for all their money back including loss of earnings if it’s a van in a company
So much work if they used the same Cover as the Eco blue it would be simple And machined in a Keyway in the crankshaft using half the Torque needed on that bolt holding the pulley, And must have known about the fibres in the sump strainer ,That sump should only be a max 1.5 hrs work and half a Day ,Such bad Design 2 extra oilseals and the Belt could have been Dry and moving the oil pump on the front of the crankshaft same as the Zetec Cvh Which should have a Keyway fitted 3 pins locking the timing job done, No wonder I Now Drive A Hgv 😂
Fords have taken the reliability of their cars a backward step all of that sludge is down to deterioration of the cam belt, its a ticking time bomb and its happening to all of these eco boost cars
It's bloody ridiculous that you have to take the whole car to bits to change the cam belt and oil pump. I can remember working on minis, Triumph Heralds and Morris Minors where you could get at everything. Modern car engines are over engineered. My focus lasted 98k, the Eco boost engine is shit.
I have a 2013 Fiesta Econetic, is there anyway to checking if the wetbelt has been changed, bought at 95k. It's now on 120k. It's had services every 10-12k miles, so I'm hoping it can make 150k miles. Is 150k possible on the original wetbelt

good job !!
Have ford not now given an extra warranty on these engines because it definitely the way to lose customers if they don't do
Wet belt is the worst design. Ford dropped a clanger there.
Great job saving another economy boost.
Worse one I done was 95k blocked up strainer and 5 teeth missing from cambelt
OH&S thrown out the garage door?, no eye protection when drilling, looking up. Wait till you get corneal abrasion and a rust ring.
Wet belt king again. 😂
Looks like you could do these eco booms in your sleep.
Not far off 😂
I have the same rattle at startup but just under a second and oil pump is completely clear anyone know what it could be
Was told belt hadnt degraded yet
It's bloody ridiculous that you have to take the whole car to bits to change the cam belt and oil pump. I can remember working on minis, Triumph Heralds and Morris Minors where you could get at everything. Modern car engines are over engineered. My focus lasted 98k, the Eco boost engine is shit.
He does timing belts really well, wet or dry, excellent work!
Let's get involved
Safety squint in use when drilling that stud I see 😂
I have a 2013 Fiesta Econetic, is there anyway to checking if the wetbelt has been changed, bought at 95k. It's now on 120k.
It's had services every 10-12k miles, so I'm hoping it can make 150k miles.
Is 150k possible on the original wetbelt
No way to check buddy unless there's proof of it being done, and I wouldn't like to push it to it's interval
Way to much sealant which when breaks off will add to the deteriorating belt n clogg the engine up quicker
Hate the heat
You should have installed a chain ...
Give me a mark one fiesta or two or three or four not this engine what a nightmare I’m glad I’m old engines were simple to work on poxy wet belt lol
Old cvh anyday
@@bazmeredith had a mk3 escort cvh went like the clappers
Where’s your workplace baz ? Wales ? If I need any work doing that’s why I’m asking your great at what you do 👌
@@AnthonyToth-t5v I'm near Wrexham buddy
Just subbing to the channel looks interesting , I don't want to tell you how to suck eggs but please wear. Eye defenders when drilling , could save you a very painful eye injury , I've been there 👍🧑🔧
chicago pneumatic not central pneumatic awesome tools
As a ex tech from the 90's to 2010 watching I can only say modern cars are absolute shite now, glad I am out the game.
@@MrRaydars they ain't the best and only getting worse buddy
What is wrong with a chain. Rubber belts suck.
First 😮
that oil pick up wos bad the worst iv seen
saved!
