@@jhawkk2004 I think you're wrong about freedom of speech being not a constitutional right in Canada. Canada has something called Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and one of the section defines that you have "freedom of expression", that supposed to be a higher form of "freedom of speech". Yea sure you probably wouldn't call it "constitutional right", but that just how different countries has different names for the same thing.

The clip montages of Dr. Peterson can be entertaining and include some great "gotcha" moments for reacting, but they hardly scratch the surface of what he is really about and how he really thinks. His long form lecture series and podcasts are by far the most interesting content he produces. Unfortunately 2 hour lectures don't necessarily make for great react content. I would encourage anyone to listen to them if they are even remotely interested in psychology or analytical thinking. If you could make entertaining react content on his lectures I would be very impressed.

he's gone on record defending every single injustice in our society, but takes great care not to make prescriptive claims. He's just "asking questions". He will however occasionally slip up and say shit like "it is hypocritical of women who wear make-up to work to complain about sexual harrassment" or "i'm against gay marriage if it was backed by cultural marxists" or "you cannot produce art without belief in god". to women in history: im with jordan, everyone had it bad and for different reasons and its enfuriating how this is ignored
    1) voting rights: women were allowed to vote the exact same time men where allowed to vote. how? cause the first votes were only open to landowners - regardless of gender, you owned land, you got to vote.
-- the second model was based on military service - you served, you could vote, yes if you were a woman and served, say as nurse, in the army you got to vote just like the men.
--- the third model was based on conscription and the early feminists wanted women to be enlisted just like the men, THUS giving all women a vote. But other women didnt want to be enlisted and would gladly give up their voting right for that privilege, ended up getting the vote without being enlisted, meanwhile TODAY men who dont enlist....cant vote in many countries, women can...
    2) women were in positions of power across cultures and times. from ancient egypt rulers like nofretete and cleopatra to a truckload of queens all across europe, people forget that even when there were only male rulers, women did have a big say in things, usually it was the mothers and lovers of powerfull men who dictated their policies. A good example is charlemagne the great. His mom decided who he married, which policies he enacted and on whom to declare war. The second his mother died, he divorced his wife and changed all his policies 180°
In france it got so bad that ling lois xiv BANNED mistresses from court because he found that these women ruled the country and not his appointed ministers and advisors.
    3) yes most women, like all commoners, were treated like dirt. Now how would you like to be treated, as priced posession like an animal, or like an expandable ressource to exploit? cause men were sent to die in wars and work themselves to death in mines. You do realise, that for most of medieval history there was about twice as many women around than males cause males DIED a lot in work and warfare. If you could choose, would you rather be forced to stay home, raise kids, do houesework and bend over when your husband wants, or would you rather work 16 hours a day in a hazardous environment in constant pain and die at 35? your pick

In norse society, while there were strict gender roles, women enjoyed almost the same rights as men - they could vote, they could be voted into power, they could inherit, get a divorce and actually owned all money her husband made - they usually would give him some pocket money - of money he earned - so he can drink and have fun with that while keeping the rest for he family.
the sad thing is for most of history it was men and women versus the world. now it seems to be men versus women.

They also seemed to forget that one, feminism was actually started by men. And two, few women were actually feminist. They were aware of the draft law and so most women NEVER wanted the vote in the first place. They also like to gloss over the many facts of history. One, work was much more labor intensive back in the day. Machines never existed and so everything had to be done by hand which was exhausting and usually came with the risk of death. Women weren't signing up to do these jobs, so men built society and so why would they respect women as equals? They were above them in every way possible at the time in everything but childcare. As you said, the dudes were dropping like flies, there were WAYYY more women alive than men at those times because men did all the dangerous sh*t. Would you respect the group that build society risking life and health or the group that looks after a few rugrats and cooks dinner? They also seem to forget that there were societies that DID treat women almost as equal to men. It is funny that ALL of those societies have something in common, the women were actually doing sh*t. Ancient Egypt, Scandinavia, Mongolia, the Celts, ALL of the women were much more integral in running society and thus were treated more fairly.

What I like about Jordan Petersen is that he is very well-read. He knows and understands not just psychology, but also history and philosophy. He knows how to connect those three things in the political spectrum, which is why he gets the controversy he does, and why the Neo-Progressives, the Marxists, the Traditional Progressives, and those on the Left that aren't centrist try and cancel JP. He speaks the truth, articulates his thoughts before speaking, and as he says, "They went all the way back to the early 1990s, 1992 I think, in an effort to find something I said to come after me with. And they failed to take me out."

The phrase “don’t be such a girl” has been so very misinterpreted. I had a therapist tell me that from when he was a young boy that he always took that to mean that boys were better than girls. “You throw like a girl” and such. But it’s due to the social design of our species. Men and women are not the same, and typically both desire the other. Manly men are what women deeply want. And in the earliest years of a boys life he is primarily cared for and taught by his mother. As he matures he needs, in some sense, unlearn what he was taught and learn to be a man. He needs to “stop being such a girl.”
I had a conversation with my wife once. She told me that a family friend (and my younger sister’s ex-boyfriend) was taking her and a friend of hers to Vegas for the weekend, while she was engaged. He also happened to elicit some “gay” behaviors. He was fun, she said, but not someone she’d date. “The gay ones are so fun.” I told her that if he really wanted to bet married and start a family, that he needed to stop squandering his money and start putting food effort into bettering his situation. And if he wanted a woman to be seriously, sexually interested he needed to adopt more many behaviors. But he’s never been told that. The schools and media would never tell him how to actually be a “man.” And it costs boys in the long run when they’re not taught to “stop being such a girl.”

@@Nonya12608 is everyone perfect? No? Then how can you say we should just stay as we are and what happens happens. “Where have all the good men gone?” They’ve been told not to become good men. “Where have all the good women gone?” They’ve been told not to become good women. Why should anyone in prison change their behaviors to just get along in society? It’s who they are!
Take your logic and apply it anywhere. You want a dream job? Don’t become the employee they want! Just stay the person they don’t want. You want to a happy, successful family? Don’t learn to become a good parent and spouse! You’re already perfect. Why should you change? Who are you to presume the scope of your wellness?
The very notion that no one should change is ludicrous. Ideas are only gendered because it’s what people look for. Figure out what you want, and become the person who would chosen for that. Become the person who would succeed in that so that your marriage and your “love” doesn’t have a fifty percent chance of ending, splitting a family in a nasty way. Let’s not pretend like terrible husband or a terrible wife should to be better. All people should always be learning ways they can improve.
But I suppose the abandonment of millennia-built logic and sound methodology is worth a few years of emotional happiness.

It's just a small point, but I noticed a couple of times (the later from a fellow Brit) that people complained about historic female injustice and Peterson points out that there was injustice everywhere across both genders. This is a spot on observation from Peterson. And I don't want to sound like I'm denying that women were looked down upon as lesser. They had barriers that men didn't. But especially in my own countries history, Britain was oppressive to almost everyone. When women got the vote in Britain, so too did men. And I say this because the truth is that women could vote, they just had to be land owners. There were very few women who were land owners, hence very few women voters. But millions of men also were not land owners and also could not vote. It wasn't a privilege only awarded to men, and the equality gained in voting rights wasn't just a win for women. And to further expand on this, most people were not land owners because they had no safety nets. Most people would be born into poverty and have to work for very little wages and they would die in poverty too. I don't know about America but Britain used to have work houses where people would agree to work very long hours for a place to sleep and some food (and that place to sleep could be a cold room they would have to share with multiple other families and the food might be a bit of mouldy bread and cheese.) Work houses were as close to slavery as you can get without being enslaved. And then you had debtors prisons. If people could not pay their debts, they would be put in a prison until they could repay their debt. The obvious problem being that when in prison, they cannot earn a living and thus cannot pay to get out. History has been appalling to both men and women. And to make one final point. Something I've always taken issue with is when women complain about how bad women had it in the early twentieth century. And yes it was horrible and I would not like to be oppressed. But they forget that men had a very major denial of their own freedom (at least in Britain.) If I (a 29 year old male) was alive in 1944. I would be shipped off against my will to potentially die on a battlefield in France. I would be subjected to the horrors of war. If I was alive in 1844, I would probably be sent down a mine to dig for coal. A job with long hours, no access to health care and a job guaranteed to kill me from breathing in coal dust. I'm sorry women couldn't vote, but at least they wouldn't be forced to work or fight themselves to death. Men had their own oppression and challenges. Many people on the left tend to think of history as 50% of the world (men) being privileged and oppressing the other 50% (women). In reality, it was more like 1% of the world (the upper classes, including their wives and daughters) oppressing 99% (everyone else, men and women alike.) Anyway that was a bit of a rant. But I just can't abide people acting like men had it so good in the past. They worked themselves to death to provide for their families and very few had any privileges.

I also wanted to add some American history to your comment.
In the US, we used to have workhouses as well. It's the main reason why child-labor laws, and labor laws in the general sense, exist. Second, debtor's prisons still exist, sadly. They just now exist for those who don't pay child support or miss payment on a fine. I am one of the few that points this out in America, given that just because they aren't called "debtor's prisons," doesn't mean that the idea of jailing someone for non-payment of debt has gone away; it's that the names and language has changed. It is still in present society, and still as pernicious, for every reason you gave.

    • @VelkanAngels
      @VelkanAngels 2 роки тому +1

From what I've heard from people who've made that argument, it's basically that the catastrophic consequences are (to them) in and of themselves proof, that what was tried wasn't REALLY their ideology. After all, they know for a fact, that their ideology is good and would result in peace, harmony and prosperity, so if it HAD been their ideology, that would've been the result. That surely the people before them who proclaimed to be of the same ideology must've done something unrelated at the same time and that unknown "something" is what actually caused the catastrophies.
So for them, it basically seemed to come from that human self-delusion we all have to varying extends, that we know ourselves to be good and smart people at the base of it all. Even if not everything we've done is good, we either meant well or were justified and while we may not be a smart in the classical sense, we're at least "street smart" or "smart in our own way". You need to watch that whole Munk debate. Jordan got called a mean, angry white man by the black gentleman of the left. One of the few times I've seen Jordan angry during a debate. Stop chopping up the clips, overlapping them and showing close-ups of your eyes going back and forth, makes it hard to follow either sides argument. School isn't irrelevant, however, if you get a degree that isn't in a STEM field, then your degree might be irrelevant. You didn't quite get it right, an ideologue is someone who believes their ideology is right and everyone else is wrong, think uncompromising or dogmatic.

I would refer to Dr.Peterson's tone as Instructional. He's not trying to demean the opposing view, he's trying to educate and bring forth knowledge as an accomplished physiologist and scholar.

Which is something that is lost in todays day and age in the political debates and debates in general debates should be tools for people of different views to argue a topic and answer questions to further education and views of a topic, not to be used as stages to name call defame and ridicule opposing views to one’s own which is what seems to be happening more and more

They say we shouldn't talk about Religion or Politics... But that's the problem. We are here as a result of not discussing these things. We need to talk out the disagreement and discover whether or not we are wrong... Unless we understand what is wrong, how can we trust that what we understand and believe is correct...?
    Love it brother!!! 👊😎

Agreed. I've had people tell me not to argue on Facebook and UA-cam because it's meaningless and no one will ever be convinced except those who already agree. Not true. I have had my mind changed many times and I've changed the minds of others as well. And even if that doesn't happen at all, that doesn't mean that nothing can be learned from the discussion. Discussion is extremely important, EVEN (gasp) on the internet.

What is crazy is that Jordan had identified himself as left, but throughout his emergence, he was castigated as alt right. Amazingly Jordan is the absolute epitome of human society. He is both left and right. He is human and for truth, no matter your proclivities, it is what the truth reveals. At some time in the future his body of work will be dissected, and it will prove that this man is a top tier human psychologist and philosopher.

Jordan Peterson has publicly talked about how he is high in agreeableness as one of his personality traits and he dislikes conflict - but he obviously works through his distress to challenge and respectfully debate important issues that he is passionate about - tremendous respect for him.
