And if you don't think intentionally misgendering trans people esp. in person is not akin to using slurs, then you just don't understand trans issues. But again if you were fired for calling your coworker the N word instead of black, would you complain that's compelled sppech?

"There’s no way you can justify that transgenderism isn’t a life style choice." The experience of being transgender is something you have, whether you venture to come out and express yourself or not. And of course, the main reason why someone who's trans wouldn't come out as such is the rejection throughout your social circles. You understand we still do not know why people are gay also? Does that mean people who are gay are just living a lifestyle choice that doesn't deserve equal rights protections? Well of course it doesn't. People are trans or gay whether we decide to hold the boot over them or not.
I don't want to start writing books here but basically I'll just add lastly that there's a world of difference in the psychiatry of adamantly disaffirming people's gender vs. not sharing your religious belief

Men talk about all sorts of things they're interested in, like sports, cars, their homes, their projects, politics, their jobs, their new toys (grill, leaf-blower) whatever: they talk about things. And what do women talk about? Men. And other interpersonal relationships, but mostly men. I'm blessed that every year my family gets together for Thanksgiving and has a big feast, and afterwards, the ladies clear off the table and pan through Black Friday ads talking about WHO might like what, and "did you hear about X person?" And the men go in to the living room and watch football. Another classic example, my aunt did one of those Ancestry things and was showing all the ladies of the family, and she brought it in to the living room with all the men watching football and talking cars and it did NOT get the same reception and level of enthusiasm from the men as it did from the ladies lol.

There's a person who grew up in a pack of wolves. That person acts thinks and behaves like a wolf. Because humans are social species, and their environment shapes their personality, thought patters, everything about them.
Jordan peterson's counter arguments to feminists usually boils down to, women just choose to be nurses while men choose to be engineers.
      Why do they do that?
It's because we have been taught by society's gender roles that nursing is a feminine occupation, while engineering is masculine.
Jordan Peterson would never admit that, because it would basically be admitting that patriarchal ideals oppress both women and men, and he's politically motivated to oppose that.

Alex your point is spot on that it's not "evolution OR society", it's "evolution AND society". Peterson covers this A LOT in his *Maps of Meaning* lectures (which are the 'raw unfiltered' material that got distilled down into his books. The books are great, but the lectures have WAY more stuff in them). Any policy that assumes just biology or just society is going to fail because both are at play.

    • @saviourself687

If you want to see a lot of females in STEM, look at India or China. Women doing jobs that pull a large wage but are not typically of interest to women are very strongly represented in countries where poverty is significant and endemic.
When you face starvation as an alternate, you go hunting for the best paid and most stable employment, right? Doctor, engineer, IT etc, developing countries have a far higher female participation rate in typically male dominated careers.
Biology will win most of the time once societal pressures are removed, which is born out by the Scandinavian results. So evolution AND society is a reality, but the balance between the two slides further towards evolution the more societal pressure is relieved.
Or put simply, if you don't force women to do traditional men's work, they won't volunteer for it. Equality of outcome = putting a gun to the head of people and forcing them to do something they do not want to.

The "average male" or "average female" is not trying to learn advanced calculus or how to create embedded systems electronics diagrams based on advanced binary logic gates.
It just so happens that the majority of this small group of people interested in complex systems that require years of dedicated focus and education are male, probably in large part due to average differences between the sexes in interests of "people" vs. "things." The adults in the room gave a group of kids free rein to play with any toy they wanted. Over the course of the experiment the adults found that, given a choice, the majority of the boys played with the trucks and the majority of the girls choose dolls. I wish I could remember the title of the show, but it WAS a long time ago!

That lady just doesn't get it. She believes it's all about "imaging" when the problem she has fight is level of interest. It's noted fact that numerous psychologists have pointed out that women men are more industrious (as Jordan pointed out) and women are more emotional and empathic. These two traits have a tremendous impact on the interests of individuals. This is why men are more geared toward jobs involving physically laborious and technical jobs like skilled trades, building, designing and fixing things, while women are more apt to go into fields like education, nursing, medical, etc. that deal with the care and teaching of people. There are obviously exceptions to this rule; many of us have seen male nurses and female engineers. But let's keep in mind, this all occurred via free choice. There is no one stopping or dissuading women away from becoming engineers and likewise, no one is trying to keep men from become nurses. The notion that the outcome being based on media portrayal is absolutely ludicrous and without merit.
The equal outcome these people wish to achieve can only come about by undue influence from society and legislation which is nothing more than tyranny no matter the source as it interferes with the free choice of people. We need to let nature take its course, let people decide what is best for them based on their own interest, skills, dreams, and goals.

Interesting that as soon as the woman quoted the chapter of JBP's book he said nothing more. My perspective is that he decided he would rather stop on top of a hill he created than continue with an argument where the other person hadn't considered engaging with the rule herself. She had her idealogical stance and wasn't shifting and because she couldn't win, she used that old trick. I don't respect that.

There's an old sales trick that this reminds me of. Car salesman are one area where this technique is taught. The idea is simple... You give your pitch in a confident and friendly tone to help them accept the information in front of them, then you hand them the pen to sign the deal, stop talking, and look them in the eyes. The premise is that if you continue speaking then you are continuing to pitch and explain things from a weak position and you feel like you have not swayed their judgement. Wheras not speaking gives the perception that you have provided more than enough data for the customer to be confident in signing. Basically, you can talk your way out of a deal faster than the buyer can.
In this scenario, the stop talking method has larger and indirect effects. Jordan knows that the woman he is debating will not see the irony or hypocrisy, or admit to it, because she has to defend her initial position in that moment. He doesn't have to convince this individual, he wants to sway the audience. So he makes the points and then lets her unwittingly validate his position by talking too much. She goes home thinking she got to say more and thereby sway more opinions, but Jordon is content that the majority of viewers saw the irony there.

My favorite story to explain, or that I use to explain, equality of outcome is the Greek myth of Procrustes.
Son of Poseidon and obviously deranged yet talented smith, Procrustes would invite any traveler to lodge with him. He lured these travelers to an iron bed and would either stretch them if they were too short or cut off limbs if they were too tall. No person ever fit the bed exactly. It's said that Zeus sent Theseus to kill Procrustes, because the god found harming a houseguest to be abhorrent (it might've been the only good value he held). Theseus caught the man, tied him to his own bed, and gave him the same treatment. Shockingly, even the designer of this bed did not fit it perfectly.
Equality of outcome is nearly impossible to achieve. All you'll manage to do is force people into situations they don't like and harming them to fit your idea of "the right" outcome.
Edit: STEM = Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. They are "hard" careers, more concrete, more objective as opposed to soft and subjective. It requires a certain type of mindset that leans more masculine. Even the women in my life who are STEM have this mindset, but they're not the majority by far. You can't tell a girl to adopt that mindset and then if it doesn't work out that she was not smart enough or good enough to do something she didn't want to do in the first place. I wonder if this connects to the push that boys can "become" girls, for the sake of achieving that illusion of equality of outcomes? "If girls don't want STEM, make boys pretending to be girls do STEM."

That being said, there is a quite clear division between the career choices of men and women here. She would play with a toy car and roll it from point A to point B "talking" as if on a road trip. While I can see the argument from societal norms, to a minor degree, it is a really myopic viewpoint. What I mean by that is, suggesting the removal of traditional gender roles is undesirable for a good number of reasons. First of all, and I think rather importantly, these roles allow for greater diversity in talents, skills, abilities and interests, a diversity that is absolutely essential to the success of a large society. Every field has a hierarchy of those who are exceptional and can effectively monetize that skill, and the more varieties of fields we have, the more people we will see at the tops of those hierarchies. And if you think hierarchies should be done away with you simply aren't thinking at all.
Additionally, the gender roles aren't just a social construct brought about by tyrannical men seaking to exert control over others. Rather, they are primarily a result of specialization for the benefit of cooperative family units optimized for successful organization within a community/society. To suggest that a majority of men in leadership roles is a suggestion that women's interests are not represented is preposterous. Every single one of the men in those roles have women in their lives who are expressing, and we know, demanding, their voices be heard. It's a complete and utter lie to suggest that they have no representation.
Finally, gender roles create the kind of structure needed for healthy human development. We have seen the damage caused in recent decades by the "progress" of feminist ideals on society. We have a dramatic increase in mental illness among adolescents and young adults stemming directly from the lack of structure created by these policies. From the increase in fatherless homes, to the increase in gender disphoria, to increased rates of suicide and substance abuse.
And despite all this evidence, do the feminists rethink their presuppositions? No, they double down and blame these woes on the patriarchy. It's absolutely reprehensible.

Geeks and nerds! Media didn't portray any of this because it was considered sci-fi. Stories only started putting geeks and nerds behind the computers because THAT'S who was there in reality, so that argument holds no water.

100% exact, it is the most stupid concept which in practice would never work. I would apply to become the new Real Madrid striker and they'd be forced to flip a coin between me and Karim Benzema to ensure "equality of outcome" despite me having never touched a football.

I'm curious if you enjoy your job. I too USED to work as a LEAN/Kaizen engineer, but I personally really disliked that job. I did it for one of the world's largest international corporations, and then I did it for a national co-op. Both of those companies were so aggressive in their expectations of my department that people would quit after 6 months or so. I stuck it out for 3 years at each place, and by that time I'd become so disillusioned with the job that I moved into chemical engineering, and I'm way more content. I'm not sure if I just worked for two companies that were not very realistic in their expectations, or if the field as a whole is that miserable?

So, I'm a woman, and I honestly can't recall a time in my life even as a little girl where I thought, "I can't do that cause I'm a girl and that's for boys." I think people give too much credit to the true power of social influences. That sort of stuff only has as much power over your life and your choices as you allow it to.
I personally don't care much for the lady's argument in this video because it feels like she doesn't believe in the power of the self-thinking individual.
I am more inclined to agree with Peterson's perspective that equal opportunity does not equate to an equal outcome. I also believe that men and women are biologically different in ways that can and will affect the choices they make.
I also think that simply having the opportunity available doesn't mean people will seize it. Many people who became successful, did so inspite of the lack of opportunity, because when you want something enough you do whatever it takes to get it. And it seems that the people who had to work the hardest to get what they wanted, appreciate it the most. But that's just my thoughts.

Notice that toward the end she said more boys need to get interested in nursing. She is so driven toward equality of outcome that she's willing to push for boys to come down the ladder if it's easier than encouraging girls to go up the ladder. Nursing is a fine and wonderful career path for anyone, male or female. You'll never want for a job as there's always a shortage. But it should be the job you want, not the one you're encouraged to take as an attempt to level out the statistical data on wage and income by gender.

No Alex, he's not just saying people will choose different things. He's saying that trying to equalize genders, not only fails, but it drives them farther apart. My reading of this is that, most women don't want to be masculine, most men don't want to be feminine, and when you try blur those lines, the genders move farther apart in an attempt to maintain a clear distinction.

When my niece was 10 years old, she enrolled in the Computer Sciences course in school. There were two other girls with her, the other 10 participants were boys.
One year later, only 5 boys continued with the second year course of Computer Science. My niece was the only girl that enrolled.
This year, she is applying for the third year curriculum of CS and she's been told that no one else has applied and the course will not be executed.
This is not about my niece being something special, it's about the fact that no matter how much you promote something, people will choose according to their interests and most PEOPLE aren't interested in CS. The fact that CS demands an above average IQ and an above average amount of conscientiousness to master it, is already a great filter.

As a person from Skandinavia (Norway to be presise) I mean we have become more and more egalitarian over the last decades and I agree totally with Jordan Peterson. There is equal oppourtunity but not equal outcome. There is still an overwhelming percentage of females in nursing for instance as well as an overwhelming percentage of males in carpentry, engineers etc. Though, there are exceptions of course. I studied IT/automation engineering, economics/administration and labtech (hospital lab with phlebotomy, biochemistry, pathology and microbiology) and it was differensiert worlds when it came to percentages in male to female distribution. 90% female in hospital or nursing studies and visa versa in the IT/automation studies. Economics/administration was not as polarized but there were more males than females in that programme (I would estimate about 70-30 male - female distribution). I work now as a manager in a hospitallaboratory and we are 3 men to 16 female in my section. In the whole department which consists of about 50 people (labtechs, managers, doctors, secretaries etc) we are only 8 men. Of the doctors the male to female distribution is 5 to 8. Of the 3 managers in this department, I am the only male. This is noe example of course, but I agree with Jordan Peterson that this will not change If people get equal oppourunity… they will still chose in the same way. I mean that hete in Norway they do have equal oppourtunity and choice. To get 50-50 male female distribution in for instance nursing will never happen. The same will never happen in other male dominated professions like carpentry, electricians, bricklayers, engineers etc. mann females do not sant there professions for subjective reasons…
