I'm a mental health professional, and a PhD student at u of t. He's actually kind of an embarrassment to the university. He takes some very boiler plate psychological frameworks, and some self help principles, and then warps them into really weird conclusions.
His self help stuff is okay for the most part. His views on feminism, "wokeness", and gender are not just wrong, but dangerous misinformation. But he's very good at slipping in the harmful rhetoric into the bits that are less objectionable, so you can't always tell what's valid, and what's claptrap.

As a forensic psychologist in study, I can say those conversational skills where you put emotions in check are an absolute must. I think he even openly admitted he took his clinical psychologist approach when talking to Cathy Newman. He has years of experience of patients trying to “trigger” from which he learned. Some news reporter won’t trigger him with half baked arguments and straw-men.

He clearly demonstrates emotional discipline by not reacting the way the questioner is hoping for. This shows intellectual competence. He immediately sees and understands the questioners intent of garnering a certain type of reaction. However, the questioners underestimate Petersons advanced intellect in understanding (without prejudice, because he understands the human nature of the questioners intentions along with their ignorance behind it) why the questioner is biased to begin with. Because Peterson can see how one's ignorance leads to them being inept, he does not react, because to him, it's like reacting to a mentally challenged person...it's not fair nor morally right. Instead, he calmly responds in a non-threatening manner with the hopes that the individual will critically think through his comment, statement, or answer...which often times doesn't happen due too their lack of emotional discipline.

To some people, admitting they were wrong is akin to a death sentence.
Some are proud (and can do no wrong), others fear repercussion from their social group.
Peterson on the other hand would be the first to admit he was wrong and that deserves respect:
To not cling to ones position and to go essentially into each and every conversation not to prove the other wrong but to try and distill the actual truth is such a commendable act, yet one you can't actually expect from many or even most people, as looking beyond proving yourself right is often a difficult endeavour while seeing the other person as a threat is that much easier (especially when they behave antagonisticly towards you).

He's so good hearted with such good intentions and genuine compassion for society as a whole, and yet he's mocked and ridiculed and labeled an evil bigot. It's really sad. A lot of the system is broken, but it's not going to bet fixed by making it bigoted in the other direction. Things like assigning numbers instead of names to tests and resumes works since it eliminates immediate biases. Quotas just give unfair advantages as has been demonstrated in various studies. Certain community imbalances can be fixed by statewide systems that funnel resources into disadvantaged areas. Perhaps a school is making unnecessary purchases to justify their budget. So, they can use some of that bloat to buy extra text books that they donate to other districts. Probably get some write-offs or something.

Part of the reason for his "precision" is the conflict he had with his "internal monologue" constantly questioning everything he said. Telling him "you don't believe that, not really. That's a lie ..."
He describes how he didn't know if he was the person articulating thoughts in words or the voice criticizing his thoughts. He tried to not say anything that the voice disagreed with.

Jordan Peterson is an incredibly powerful individual in terms of conversational ability. His deep care for people and heavy psychological knowledge and study have made him an incredible listener and as a respectful man he gives the other person ample opportunity to frame their point. But when it’s his turn, he turns up with a great big barrel of facts, he lays them out on an orderly fashion and phrases his points so eloquently whilst managing not to appear conceited or holier than thou. Ones gets the impression that his attempt to educate the other person comes from a place of genuine care, love and respect, and a desire to see that person benefit.

Not very productive.

Bill C16 (and even more terrifying C67) clearly have nothing to do with equality as they are by definition suppressing certain groups in favour of others. Jordan has formulated his ethics carefully. He knows where he stands and, most importantly, why. That’s why he can stand tall and strong. Those who oppose him as straw men, parroting the politically correct group-think without the ballast of stats and facts, can be blown away with just a breath of truth.

First of all, I almost always enjoy your reaction videos - your honesty and passion always comes through, and you seem very humble and sincere, which is awesome. When I first heard Jordan Peterson on the Joe Rogan podcast, I was at a particularly low point in my life. Hearing his advice totally changed the ways that I thought about how I can make a difference in the world, and made me want to find a purpose again. It had nothing to do with feminism or transgender rights. It was just about me wanting to be a better father, and to want to contribute to my community. I just needed a little encouragement, and he gave me that in a massive way.

Jordan's very emotional when he's talking about regular things with people that read his book, or when people come up to him at a convention. You need to do some content from when Ben's a little older. He's still straight forward, but I think having the 3 kids helped. Love it. thank you

yeah it depends what you're doing. Emotions are necessary to express and are a guide to happiness, but can be exploited. So in dangerous situations, like this interview, it is better to keep them in check to not make a rash decision/comment you might regret. He's very carefull, which is good!

I like that you noticed how he corrects interviewers mid question to fix wording in which his argument would automatically be misleading. It seems like an obvious thing to have a basic foundation in place to successfully talk about an issue but a lot of opponents to his beliefs formulate questions with either misinformation or heavy bias.

Women conveniently forget that men did not have the unconditional right to vote either! For a man to be given a chance to vote he had to promise to defend the country down to sacrifying his life for the cause. If you did not become a conscript -no vote for you! Women got the right unconditionally, "for free", with no skin in the game. Also, wealthy females had the right to vote since long back as did wealthy men, a bit blurred lines though, probably case by case basis.

In 1918 in the UK 8.5 Million women and 5.5 Million men got the vote. It was 1918 because of WW1, only 5.5 Million men because many lay dead in Europe. They all got the vote because of WW1,even the rich realised they couldn't send men to war by a government they had no say in electing.

I think you'll enjoy Peterson more than Shapiro. Peterson is very calculating and exact with the words and the language that he uses. He's very specific and he wants very direct questions not some vague "gotcha" media soundbite that can be taken out of context and weaponized against him. Looking forward to more Peterson on the channel!
