You're dead right. This track sets up the atmosphere in the first line of the lyrics. It's great. My favourite atmosphere of any of their stuff is the cold war paranoia of Brother Where You Bound.
The outro to this song gets me everytime. Each time I hear it, I feel such an emotional release, and I end up with tears (of joy) in my eyes. It's like being resurrected. It's a feeling of finally being free and breaking loose to fly to the ends of the universe. It's "eargasmic". Every single time .....
its great watching people falling in love with a song you yourself fell in love with almost 50 years before...it's nice because makes you realize this music will last a lot more years
I discovered Supertramp & ELO at about the same time....in the late 1970s. And Both bands have such a unique sound all their own. I love them immensely. Even In The Quietest Moments is another great Supertramp song, as is School.
Supertramp were an incredible group! I saw them live twice in 1974 and 1979. They were huge here in Canada 🇨🇦. Their albums Crime of the century in 1974 and Even in The Quietest Moments in 1977 were both huge #1 albums here. Crisis What Crisis album in 1975 Top 3 here. The rest of the World finally discovered them with the #1 album Breakfast in America. I love Supertramp! I recommend the song..FOOLS OVERTURE..from Even in the Quietest Moments...it's a Masterpiece!!❤❤
Yep! I got to see Even In The Quietest Moments and Breakfast In America in Moncton, NB. I missed the Crisis tour because I had to work. 2 of the most amazing shows anyone could wish to see.
I think the song is about a guy that just goes from town to town, having very casual relationships with women with the knowing attitude that he will not be committing to anything but will get what he wants and then moves on all because he must be free! I believe it is camouflaged condemnation of that callous attitude. The music presents an exciting and even exhilarating backdrop that hides the pain he leaves in his wake.
Saw Supertramp at the Ex (in Toronto) one of the best concerts I’ve been to! They sound just like their albums. Also had the privilege of seeing Queen, Led Zeppelin and many more of the greatest bands from the 70’s and 80’s! Oh and the Beatles too😊
You both enjoyed this one then😉Rick Davies had such a unique voice, and a lot of people believed the band were American but they were in fact another fantastic British band...Great reaction guys, keep up the good work ✌
As I get older, and I'm now 50, Supertramp is one of those bands that stand the test of time. I was listening in high school and enjoying them even more now. Top 5 band for me.
Great band Supertramp unique sound Great album Breakfast in America bit my favourite album is Crime of the Century absolutely brilliant from start to finish😊
Hello *Andrei* & *Domenika,* My preferred song by *Supertramp.* I know most of the people prefer *"The logical Song".* But this one is my anthem. In the early 80s, I listened to it in the morning on my Walkman way to college. This song made me want to pass in front of the school without entering and continue my path toward other horizons and adventures. It's a hymn to freedom. When it came time for the wah-wah guitar solo, I felt frustrated because the sound dropped as if the solo was not finished. And I wanted it to continue, not stop there, at the gates of my college. And, in this way, I can continue my way. It's as if the two are intertwined. Peace, folks. ☮😉
To me this is not a break up song. It’s a guy who travels a lot, gets his fun and moves on. Not one to settle, put roots down. Maybe the mysterious stranger who shares nothing but his body.
Got turned onto these guys in 1980 in Diesel mechanics school and have loved them ever since. Come to America Andre and Dominica and I will cook a breakfast in America you will never forget. Love ❤️ you guys!
Next song I recommend «Give a little bit», sweet catchy song. Back to Roger on vocal. Supertramp had to vocalists and songwriters. Both extremely talented.
One of their greatest hits. Love it! From Breakfast in America, their most successful album! Surprised that you didn't have heard this song before, it's everywhere on radios for almost 45 years! Try "Child of vision" from the same album, you'll be thrilled!!!!
I always thought it was about one-night stands. More precisely, the morning after - it's time to say goodbye to another stranger. IDK. It's the song I always used to hum as I tiptoed my way out the door.🤫
100% incorrect and it appears you bought into some type of silly fabrication. There is not even one example within the lyrics that in any way coincides or relates to the use of the names Mary and Jane as being a reference to marijuana aka...Maryjane. The lyrics are so straightforward that seeking a hidden meaning is silly. Seriously, whomever made up that nonsense had zero reading comprehension skills and was counting on others to set aside their own.
Don't think I had the chance to say Happy New Year!... My wife and I enjoy your reactions! Success to you and yours this new year! From west coast Canada 🇨🇦, peace!
Supertramp is one of the best bands, your reaction guys is so beautiful, appreciate your reaction on their song :”Don’t Leave Me Now” it’s so beautiful.
That was a great reaction, Supertramp are so much fun, you can listen to one of their songs a hundred times and still hear something you missed previously, there's always a lot going on. I hope you get to hear more of them. Thank you guys (and Arnold), take care. ❤
This song always takes me back to when a good friend got married and moved away. Super tramp was her favorite band and this song was a big hit at the time. It was on the radio as we left her wedding reception and I never saw her again. After so many decades I found her on Facebook but we no longer have anything in common. My fave line is "Sweet devotion, Its not for me. Just give me motion to set me free"
Always loved Supertramp. It reminds me of my childhood, when my big brother played this in his bedroom, with the window open in summer, and me playing in the garden with my other siblings. Great reaction. Big smile here ❤ still play Supertramp in my car, remembering those sweet days
Never saw Supertramp but have seen Roger Hodgson the gentleman with the high voice twice on tour with his band doing his songs from that era. His voice is more golden and mature his band is awesome you'd swear it was Supertamp...they have some great videos on UA-cam.
So happy that you react on supertramp. Those guys are genius. The whole album is just magic. Try „take the long way home“ which is one of my favorites or breakfast in America. Actually try all songs 😊. Thanks 🙏🏻

The album was a tribute/inspection of their time in America on tour, leaving the UK on Concorde, they arrive in America just in time for breakfast, they are five hours behind UK , hence the title, great reaction both.
Not a breakup song….more like being on the road and having a one-night stand. But he’s quite happy….feels no sorrow or shame…and neither should the girl. He wishes her well, and maybe they’ll meet again.

No, its a reference to women in general. Just as the names John Doe and Jane Doe refer to people in general. A no brainer.
