What great year 1979 was in music, what good album Breakfast In America (Supertramp), it was top selling album in the US. Followed by Bad Girls - Donna Summer, and Minute By Minute - The Dobbie Brothers...the there was Damn The Torpedoes - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, In The Heat of the Night - Pat Benatar, In Through the Out Door - Led Zepplin, 52nd Street - Billy Joel....etc etc..
Every Supertramp track is a rollercoaster ride into the unknown, you never can anticipate what's coming next, that's what makes it such an amazing band.
Supertramp is an amazing progressive rock band and you really should take some time to explore the excellent music put out by this band! I would suggest next to go back to their breakout album "Crime of the Century" and listen to any or all of the tracks on that LP. "School", "Rudy", "Bloody Well Right" and on you go!! Happy New Year, Angela!!
I think you hit nailed it perfectly.Shake off the dust and keep moving and exploring. The music is very catchy and I love your little moves.I can imagine you flow on the dance floor nicely
Not just a nomad, but a player... no commitments, one-night stands. Goodbye, Mary, Goodbye, Jane, etc. Love the verse, "Now some they will, and some they won't, and some you just can't tell; and some they do, and some they don't, and some it's just as well." About as cynical about picking out who to spend the night with as it gets.
What always impressed me about this was that the entire song is one long buildup to that epic ending guitar solo. And the anticipation of that ending gets stronger each time you hear it. Which gives it a kind of sexual connotation -- appropriate, given the subject.
I feel kind of spoiled, because I had Supertramp, ELO, Slade, & 10cc, to keep me going, alongside all the other fantastic sounds of the 70's, Disco, New-Wave, Punk, Two-Tone, Reggae, Synth-Pop, Prog-Rock..........etc etc etc!!! It was THE decade for great music, imho! 😁
Supertramp - Goodbye Stranger !!! fantastic song Happy New year. I no longer drink alcohol but I always found that the saying "Hair of the dog" really works. Just 1 shot or 2 is all it takes to take you down slowly. Maybe toast to help keep it down.
Great band! This one is from their Breakfast In America LP! A few hits came from this album, and I dig most of those songs! One song comes to mind that I may have mentioned before, but I really don't recall! It was a hit around the same time frame as this one! It's The Devil Went Down To Georgia by The Charly or Charlie Daniels Band! It is a pretty interesting song, and you'll know why if you decide to listen to it! Happy New Year, and I hope 2024 is leagues better than last year for everyone! Goodbye strangers!
One of my favourite bands, inventive and love the way they put their songs together and the instruments they use. This is one of several really good songs from their album Breakfast in America , and has a great guitar outplay. I think my absolute favourite on this album is 'Take the long way home' with its great harmonica -Colin Ward
the lady on the cover with the waitress outfit was my landlady at the time of this cover in 1979 and the cover art was done by Aaron Rapoport whose office I serviced for Dewey Pest Control
Wow! You know up close a piece of rock iconography!!- I was a senior in high school during this time at a very wealthy boarding school ( I was a scholarship kid) so our friends used stereos, albums, cars, $$ to go see concerts etc. The best music..I was exposed to so much!!
Thank you for the cool wind in the smog of reactions. You have the common decency to allow the song to play. It always amazes me how these people know more about the songs than the people who sang them. I like a few others, but only because they have intelligent comments.
Where may you have heard the hook before? Just looked it up - It Could be in the episode 'Goodbye, Toby' of 'The Office', In the episode 'Goodbye Stranger' in the eighth season of 'Supernatural', in the 1999 film 'Magnolia', or the 2017 film 'I, Tonya'.
Supertramp was co founded by Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson. They both do the lead vocals to their own songs and Goodbye Stranger is Rick Davies with Roger playing that fantastic guitar. I don't remember the other song you did but I would bet that it was Roger singing.
It’s about change and the singer deciding to quite smoking pot. He said he had smoked so much that he become a stranger to himself. He’s saying goodbye to his old self.
That was a nice way of interpreting the song. Even though Supertramp was sort of a nerd rock group, they apparently had groupies (like Mary and Jane). Great song but it is about trying to feel guilt-free for spending the night with them then moving on.
I always thought of this song as the guy is kidding himself that he never has to get close to anyone. Just a life of one night stands. As far as hearing it somewhere, it was probably sampled by someone in the 90's like many great tracks from the 70's were. The song was most likely forgettable except for the sampled part that stuck in your head.
Happy New Year from El Paso, Tx.! I love your show, & I have previously recommended "Bless the Beasts & the Children" by the Carpenters. I'm hoping you react to this video. Have a blessed day! ~Tommy D.~
Hi Angela great reaction as always! Supertramp truly were one of the "Super Groups" as they called them back then. Literally every song they did was a hit. Hey I have a theory as to why you may have think that you have heard that falsetto "Goodbye Mary......part. Could it be that they actually sound VERY similar to the Bee Gees? (in my opinion anyway).....just a thought ha ha ha! ❤from Canada!
Hi there, have watched a good number of your videos although this is my first comment. You're a lovely girl with a beautiful smile. I enjoy your reactions. If may make a harmless suggestion to check out a group called "Damn Yankees". In particular, the songs "Come again", and "Don't tread on me". Judging from your previous reactions, I think you would enjoy reacting to these times. Hope you have a great year. And wish you the best. 😎🇺🇸
Youll find that Baby Boomer music was loaded with songs about tansient relationships, about not laying down roots and avoiding long term relationships. I think it was the 1960s hippie movement that started this.
Another great reaction. Please react to " Where've you Been " by Kathy Matea. It is one of the sweetest, yet saddest song ive ever heard. Your reaction would be interesting. Thank you 😀

AAll time Great Band📢set your ears to stunned
Supertramp are an amazing British band 🤩
One of the tastier outtros you'll ever here
I always see your reactions but I rarely pay attention to the music, because all my attention is taken by your beautiful ❤
Every Supertramp track is a rollercoaster ride into the unknown, you never can anticipate what's coming next, that's what makes it such an amazing band.
1979 was such a great year!!! One of my favs from that year

I played this to death on my car cassette and I still have my vinyl record of "Breakfast in America". Loved that album
Enjoyed your reaction. Great song ! The album was MASSIVE here in Toronto. Can’t deny the musical and recording quality. Oh the 70’s….
Damn I miss the 70’s.
Seemingly every week another classic album was released.
Todays “music” is utter dogshit by comparison.
Yeah no kidding great dance moves !
Rockstar lifestyle… a different girl in every town on the tour. No long term commitments outside of the one night stands for this guy.
Angela, you pick outstanding music for us. That's why I'm here every chance I get. Happy New Year!!
Isn't she wonderful?!
An awesome song and a beautiful lady reacting to it. Don't get any better.
Gifted Songwriters and consummate musicians
Love this song about one night stands 😆
Wow,thanks for the insight!!! I’ve listened to this song since it came out and never picked up on it!!
Great song about a male player. Not a fan of players, but a classic tune. Love the way the tempo changes.
Love Supertramp.
Great reaction. Love your dance moves too 🎸🎸
The caliopy feel is excellent.
Great song! They were great to see live. They had what all really great rock bands had, an original sound and a unique sound!
Great band great song great memories
The Solo Outro is a classic.
Summer of '78 waiting for this song to come on the radio. My Childhood!
One of my fav songs from them next to Take The Long Way Home
One of my all time fav songs. thanks for your reaction. btw to state the obvious, your hair is amazing
I wonder if they're ever going to start talking about Supertramp for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
THis is a good one. I remember when it first came out.

Great job of jamming to this great song Angela ❤

Happy New Year Angela thank you. Love Supertramp's music!! Wish you a wonderful 2024.
easely one of the best albums of the 70s and in my opinion of all time! still got my copies!

Hey Supertramp, 10cc, RUSH and Max Webster were my fav. Check out Max Webster

What a time in life.
Hello beautiful one and a happy new years to you and yours
Great band and song!! 😅
one of my favorite songs. complex instrumentation, light and fast on its feet. love the closing guitar solo.

The Breakfast In America album cover has all sorts of wild theories of the images related to the 9/11 attacks.
Great song, often overshadowed by The Logical Song, which was released just prior.
🤣👉🍺🍺🍺🥃🥃🥃🍸🍷HAPPY 2024 GRADPA aka DAD ROCK⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐5STAR
Fun reaction Angela❤ When this album came out it caught us by storm. I played this album so much. I was 16.
Thank you for the cool wind in the smog of reactions. You have the common decency to allow the song to play. It always amazes me how these people know more about the songs than the people who sang them. I like a few others, but only because they have intelligent comments.
I can really relate to this song, having been someone who can just never 'settle down'. One of the best outros ever.
Music take you back to a place in my case 1979 I met my wife still together after all these years
Where may you have heard the hook before? Just looked it up - It Could be in the episode 'Goodbye, Toby' of 'The Office', In the episode 'Goodbye Stranger' in the eighth season of 'Supernatural', in the 1999 film 'Magnolia', or the 2017 film 'I, Tonya'.
Breakfast in America is a very impressive album...but Crime of the Century will always be my favorite .
When this first came out I bought this next cheque
Look online , the women on the album just posted a new photo after all these years, very cool.
I would suggest, Oh Lord, Is It Mine.
Happy New Year, babydoll...
I think you nailed it with your interpretation. There’s some women along the way too 😉
Angela, the one Supertramp song you’re missing is “Give a Little Bit”. Beautiful work of art. Hope you do a reaction.
Happy New Year ! I remember when this came out, such an awesome song ! I’m so happy that you’re enjoying it. Love your channel.
Breakfast in America is an awesome album.
Thank you!
Fantastic 👍🏻

If it seems familiar, it's frequently been used in TV and movies - most notably in I, TONYA with Margot Robbie and MAGNOLIA with Tom Cruise.
Definitely heard it at the end of an episode of Supernatural, where Castiel took the angel tablet to keep it away from Crowley
Happy New Years, Angela !! Great song pick ; From my first album I bought as a Highschool freshman
It was based on a story told to him by an Apache Indian. Peter Gabriel has a such a huge volume of work, hope you find some more that grab your fancy.
Angela: Did you recognize the song from that episode of the office when Michael sings "Goodbye Toby" at his going away party?
That was a nice way of interpreting the song. Even though Supertramp was sort of a nerd rock group, they apparently had groupies (like Mary and Jane). Great song but it is about trying to feel guilt-free for spending the night with them then moving on.
the sample is from a commercial

In your spare time: listen to this entire album "Breakfast in America" by Supertramp, it's awesome. 😃
Just download ALL their albums. They are that good.
❤
You've never looked more beautiful then reacting to this song. I don't hand out compliments lightly so know this one is sincere.
Happy New Year Angela!
I think it was used on a Carl's Jr commercial or something like that
❤❤❤❤❤
HAPPY NEW YEAR 🎉!!! GOOD BYE MARY, GOOD BYE JANE . WELL, I'M SMOKING ON WHAT HE'S TALKING ABOUT!! GO FIGURE!!😆😆😆😆😆😆!!!!!!
If you’ve seen the movie Magnolia, this song is featured in a poignant sequence. Maybe you’ve heard it there?
Good bye Mary , good bye Jane : marihuana. Rick Davies ( the singer) , saying goodbye to the marihuana.
Putting on the weight Day One 😂.
If you watch The Office, I believe Michael Scott does a famous rendition
Youll find that Baby Boomer music was loaded with songs about tansient relationships, about not laying down roots and avoiding long term relationships. I think it was the 1960s hippie movement that started this.
I think Target might have used it in a commercial?

You really should just play all of Breakfast in America.
Was this song perhaps featured in an ad? Unsure....

Hi Ms. D., Good Song; Good Group.. (I am not hitting on U, just saying, U look extra Good today) ♠Mr.G..
People sleep on that ending guitar solo. It's so annoying when it's cut off on the radio.
The songs about weed! Good bye Mary good bye Jane
You're asking some deep questions about a rock song little lady! But go ahead... we have answers, but I don't have a clue!
Super Band......but not a nostalgic tune. Good take on the motion and the vagabond character. Nice groove (of course). Prog Pop masters.
Angela I put in a request for your duet theme but you didn't use it,so are you going to react to it anyway or did I waste my time
