I am 65 years old now and all I used to listen to was all the mainstream music on radio .Then my friend at work said you have to give Floyd a listen and I am furious with myself that I have wasted all those years .I am now on my own personal journey from start to finish and I am in heaven .love you two new subscriber here from Warrington UK

Beautiful reaction guys. I forgot to say in my message, this Album, ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ is a concept album. It was designed to be listened to as a whole, so each song blends into the next one. Which is the reason for the abrupt ending. When you’ve both listened/reacted to all the songs individually, I’d highly recommend listening to the Album from start to finish. It’s a life altering experience.

Yes, the songs were not intended to be interrupted. It worked fine on the vinyl but when the CDs came out, they had to chop it all up. Best is to listen to it on the analog vinyl record and not so much on the digital CD.
@@kevinerose welcome to the 21stC. I would imagine neither CD nor vinyl will be played. Today's streaming software doesn't leave gaps between tracks.
The speaking voice at 11:57 is Pink Floyd's roadie, Roger Manifold. When they were recording the album, Waters got staff and random people to answer questions printed on flashcards such as, ‘What’s your favourite colour?’ and ‘What’s your favourite food?’, before moving on to themes of the album. (such as madness, violence, and death). The band’s road manager Peter Watts (father of actress Naomi Watts) contributed the repeated laughter during ‘Brain Damage’ and ‘Speak to Me’, and, "I never said I was frightened of dying," from the beginning of ‘The Great Gig In The Sky.' I believe the question Roger Manifold was answering at 11:57 was, "When were you last violent." His answer was, "I mean they're trying to kill you, so if you give them a short, sharp, shock, they don't do it again dig it? I mean he got off light, because I could have given him a thrashing. I only hit him once. I mean good manners don't cost nothing do they?" in which he's describing a near car accident he was involved in and got into a confrontation with the other driver.

For me, there is no best Pink Floyd song. For me, the individual songs exist only to have an index to the music, but I see their music as a total work of art.
There's a line in a Marilyn Manson song called "Fight Song" that goes:
"The death of one is a tragedy. The death of millions is just a statistic."
Interestingly, that quote belongs to Joseph Stalin. When a tragedy claims many lives, we often care less than if a tragedy claims only a few lives. Why do far away wars affect us collectibly less than a deadly car accident in your own town. Roger wrote a powerful song called The Bravery of Being Out of Range...
I am 64 years old and I have listened to Pink Floyd music since I was a teenager and everything they put out is good. Even the songs that never made it to the radio. They're good songs. They're they are well written. Well saying it's just awesome music and it's really hard to say which is your favorite because it's all good

I've been watching you guys react all morning. I was taking chemicals when I went to my first Pink Floyed concert, with maybe four hundred people who had heard some of their music...about the time of the concert you looked at when they were playing "Echos" They have grown much since then...and so have you two. I also hung out with a gall who had escaped from Poland when it was still held in bondage by the Communists. She was a bit nervous about having to learn a new way of life in the middle of an old perception of it. She was able to relax as she figured out
how to move forward from 1917. Now since I spent the day reacting to you two I have to say the more you got into Pink Pink Floyd the more relaxed and comfortable you looked,and your smiles were more real and you faces became younger looking. Pink Floyed has a way of imparting knowledge to the listener which in turn makes the listener feel more alive and relaxed. Good luck and I'll keep watching. Your doing great.

Leave it to Pink Floyd to know exactly when to enter in with the subtleness of a saxophone to create a specific feeling or mood ! The reason why Pink Floyd has lasting power is because in the 1970s all the way to today they remained consistently excellent. People who ignored them (or even worse), rejected them, back in the early days, were not mature enough in their musical taste than they ended up being later in life. But, Pink Floyd was there, all the while . . . just waiting for them to catch up to their excellence !

While nearly all of us can receive- hear and understand- this language, very few are able to create and transmit it effectively. These special few that are fluent in this language are the musicians that leave us shaking our heads in awe with tears welling in our eyes...
Pink Floyd is a thinking mans or(womams) rock band. That feeling you get is called being " lost in the sauce". They are masters of conveying emotion through the music and subliminal sounds and vocals pulled back into the background. They worked for years just creating sound effects with their instruments to create a mood. Its genius and nobody has ever macthed it since. Dont let the sauce overwhelm you just relax and "Breath"😊

Great reaction once again! So beautiful, one of Rick's most beautiful compositions (with lyrics by Roger, of course). Rick and his keyboards were the soul of Pink Floyd. When you listen to PF enough, it just becomes part of you. Do I have a favorite? Sure, but which one I say might depend on how I'm feeling, and what I heard last. Probably Echoes for me, but on any given day it could be Shine On, or One of These Days, or WYWH, or Sorrow, or High Hopes, or anything from Dark Side, or anything from Animals, or , or , or ...
Spot on, I asked a friend of mine what his favourite Pink Floyd song was, and he replied, "The one that I'm listening to at the time', and I thought, you know he is right.
I was greatly saddened by the loss of Richard. You are right. He was the soul of the band.

It was written by Richard Wright with lyrics by Roger Waters, sung by David Gilmour, with harmonies by Wright. The song is 7 minutes and 49 seconds long. Us and Them" is taken from the album The Dark Side of the Moon.
It was decided after very careful consideration that the best Pink Floyd song is the one you’re listening to.
Most songs Pink Floyd did are masterpieces by themselves. But to really understand, you have to listen to the entire album from begin to end. This, 'Us and Them', is from 'dark side of the moon', and that album in its totality is just nuts. Same with 'the final cut', 'the wall', animals, 'wish you where here'. Also note the concept albums Roger Waters made on his own: 'Radio K.A.O.S.' and 'The Pro's and cons of hitchhiking', as well as 'amused to death'. All those albums need to be listened to as a whole.
I was 12 or 13 hearing this for the first time. My friends and I listened to this album almost every day. Imagine being just a kid and exposed to this amazing music and the incredible lyrics.
Great reaction, guys. "Forward he cried, from the rear, and the front rank died." That line says so much about the 'System." Those in control stand at the rear, directing their hypnotized pawns to step into the fray and sacrifice their lives, and livelihoods, so that the privileged might gain power without endangerment. So much meaning, so few words.

With Pink Floyd you don't have a favorite song but a favorite album instead. All the songs on an album are connected. At the ends of the songs you hear the beginning introduction of the next song. The " Live Versons " by pink floyd are yes brilliant....but you really should listen to the studio versions aswell , because they are so crisp and clean

Pink Floyd is one of those bands that makes you a part of the music. They are my all-time favorite band for the exact reasons that we can see on both of your faces. Pink Floyd is much more than music, it’s an experience. Great reaction to one of the greatest bands of all time.👏👏👏👏

They were uniquely talented and in touch with human emotions, all four of them, in different ways. Even Nick's drumming sometimes, as simple as it is, is just so perfect and hits me. Even with their talent and chemistry, part of what made so many of these songs so masterful was that they didn't just go into the studio and try to work out a song that one of them had a general idea about, like many musicians do. Many of these songs were perfected over several years, started as live versions in different forms. In other words, they took the time to create their masterpieces.
I like Andrei's reaction every time on PF: "I don't... I cannot.... I don't.... I cannot...I don't.... I cannot...."!

I really appreciate being able to experience this again with you two. You are thoughtful in different ways to me now (I'm 58 and I bought DSOTM in 1983, so I was 18) and are honest in your opinions. I find myself rethinking and wondering exactly what I did think the first time I listened to this. The bottom line with this music and this band is that it truly is therapy for people. You can relisten indefinitely and keep the faith. It's that good.
Great reaction. I must have been in my twenties when I first heard this. I am almost 70 now and I still don't know what all the words are in that section. One thing I can tell you though, is buy the whole Album, every now and again sit down quietly and play it all through, both sides. It will transport you back, not only to the first time you heard it, but it will also transport you to places new, and will bring memories back to your mind from the rest of your past life too. It is TRULY a magical Album and TRULY timeless
I can't pick just one favorite Pink Floyd song and I've been listening for close 50 years but this is one of my favorites. They capture the meaning of endless wars and propaganda perfectly in their lyrics and music. Pure transcendence.

Pink Floyd is really a band that makes you think and it makes you feel emotion that you didn't know you had. They were an incredible band. I can tell you a whole bunch of songs to listen, but there are just so many. I would suggest you listen to all of Darkside Of The Moon, as a serious introduction to Pink Floyd. Beautiful 💜

A lady never tells her age, but yeah, this is a gem somehow implanted on a pearl. Other commenters are correct. Its the whole pearl that needs to be examined, start to finish.

Becoming my favorite Floyd channel. Which ever Floyd song is playing is my favorite. I do like some two songs back to back. One of these days into Pillow of Winds, Childhoods Ends into Free Four and Empty Spaces into Young Lust. Rock On!
The reason that many "tracks" end suddenly, is that there are NO breaks in this album..you MUST listen to the whole album.

There is background talking on several songs off the album. They brought a tape recorder into a few pubs and just recorded people talking to playback on the album. The girl saying "he was cruise'n for a bruise'n" is probably one of the most famous lol
The verses are sung clearly by David, including the harmonization and doubletracking. But the chorus brings the beautiful mix of David, Roger and Rick's voices, with the backing of Liza Strike, Leslie Duncan and Doris Troy, brilliantly mixed by Alan Parsons
“For want of the price, of tea and a slice, the old man died.” Is a reference to Roger Waters’ father who died during WW2. Roger never knew his father. A lot of the songs are about Rogers feelings about war.

Pink Floyd didn’t write “pop songs” or mushy love song. They wrote songs about the “human condition” and our treatment of each other. All of life is a power struggle, a class war and an attempt to control everything and everyone. Be that a personal “one to one” level, or “nation to nation”, or “ideology to ideology”. That’s why it makes “us” think and feel. There aren’t many bands who do that. Most are just trying to sell alums and make money.😊

A recommendation - in all modesty - don't try to pick favourite songs of Pink Floyd - pick favourite ALBUMS! And then listen to them - together- in the dark, all the way through. Especially Dark Side of the Moon is MEANT to be heard that way. You will see how each "track" eases imperceptibly into the next. Especially important with Time & The Great Gig in the Sky. Your reactions are pure joy! ALLEZ!
Which one is my favorite ? Hum... let's see... "Shine on you crazy diamond", oh no wait, "Dogs", or maybe "Sheep", unless it is "Any colour you like", I meant "One of these days", oh and "High hopes" is up there too. And "Echoes" of course..... Anyway, I think you get the point... after hearing each one about 1000 times (and other ones too), I still love them all and cry on them most of the time. Sad ? No, overwhelmed by the beauty and emotions.

I love listening to your discussions and seeing you get the relevance of the music and lyric's which are quite often ambiguous so what you feel about it is personal that is the magic of Pink Floyd and why it resonates today to you as it did to me when I first bought the album in 1973.
Some information the Dark side of the moon is the fourth biggest selling rock album of all time some 50 million copies now it is also the only album to stay in the billboard top 200 albums chart for 736 nonconsecutive weeks (from 17 March 1973 to 16 July 1988).
Listening to individual tracks each song is a masterpiece but to get the full impact you need to listen to the whole album from start to finish like a book telling a story with different chapters.
Probably my favorite PF song. The lyrics, so simple yet so powerful. Talking about the evils of war, and the greed (the haves and have nots) and suffering in society. Still so pertinent today.
Over and over again, Pink Floyd moves peoples emotions and speaks to the heart. Brilliant musicians!

I find it shocking that lads in their early '20's created this masterpiece. Mozart-level genius. The mastery of vibrations and their effects on emotion seems god-like, that they can touch us at even a cellular, molecular, atomic, quantum level, so that our selves seem to disintegrate in the music, and we return when the music stops and we contract into our bodies again, but we carry that feeling of expansion into the infinite into the realm of time, and sigh, and say simply, "Wow".

Throughout the early years of Pink Floyd, at least after Sid Barrett, the main lyricist was Roger Waters and the music was put together by David Gilmour and Richard Wright. When Roger left the group, there were various lyricists. David Gilmour always stated he hated coming up with the lyrics. His present wife is a writer and poet so wrote a lot of the lyrics starting in 1994.
72 yes old now,was 21 when I bought this in cassette form when it was first released.love it just as much today but the track Time is much more relevant.
