Seeing people watch this for the first time is so awesome. It's an absolute masterpiece. Mark Knopfler is a musical genius. Absolute demon songwriter, guitarist and producer. One of many incredible songs he's written. Dire Straits is one of the most unique and biggest bands of all times. Mark Knopfler has it all and he's crafted an amazing career over 45 years and counting. He's clearly one of the finest musicians to have graced this wonderful life. Superb reaction
for me, MK can sit in bar, take coffee or beer or what ever he likes and just sit there he will sound perfectly and i will enjoy it....he is ninth miracle of world!
Love Dire Straits. They are a great British rock band from the 70's-90's. Mark Knopfler is one of the best guitarists around. They have had so many hits including "Money For Nothing", "Telegraph Road", "Romeo & Juliet", "Private Investigations", "Twisting By The Pool", "So Far Away", "Brothers In Arms" etc. They don't have a bad song.
I listen Dire Straits My whole life and My favorite song Is...........on every street, down to the watterline, skateaway, ladywritter, private investigation, brothers in arms!!!
This is MUSIC! This song is part of music HISTORY! One of the best live performances EVER in the history of music! Do you see the energy, do you feel the energy? We don't see this today anymore, sadly....imagine going into this concert and having the TIME OF YOUR LIFE, your heart beating at 1000bpm and leaving there with a smile in your face! Queen's concert LIVE at WEMBLEY was like this also and there are a few others! Those were the days! 70's and 80's were the best!
Mark knopfler a special guitarist if you think this is "out of this world " react to in my humble opinion the MASTERPIECE "BROTHERS IN ARMS ".IT brings me to tears everytime.
Great reaction. I must have seen this 200 times and every time it gives me goosebumps. I am in my 70s and it's great to see people that have never seen it before. Thank you.
Awesome reaction guys big hugs from Sweden i actaully learned to dance to Direstraits back in late 80's. My father used to put my small legs on top of his feets and move with the music so i learned rhytm. My fathe died 2017, 70 years old Everytime i here a Direstrait song im taken back to that precious memory and im 42 years old today. Thank you guys for doing this reaction with me.
This is one of the greatest hits ever and it came down like a nuklearblast in The music world 1977 i think. They played this masterpiece everywhere..on the radio. TV...clubs..beetches..you name it. Mark Knopflers gitarrsound and his fingerpicking was something new..Dire Straits became one of the greatest bands ever. Thank you for reacting to this pure Joy piece of music history.👍👍👍
Welcome to the world of the great guitar virtuoso Mark Knopfler, a real artist who composes, writes lyrics, sings and plays the guitar in a unique way! Another choice is the song Telegraph Road from the same concert named Alchemy
You can just tell by the way the band are smiling at each that they know they are playing above themselves and are on fire they know they are going to give the crowd something they will not forget
I have been to literally 100's of concerts in my life and Dire Straits was top of the list for me, incredible musicians. Telegraph road from this same concert is unreal too
Mark Knopfler, Lead guitar Hal Lindes, Rhythm Guitar John Illsey, Bass Guitar Terry Williams, Drums Alan Clark, keys And for these shows 22/23 July 1983 Hammersmith Odeon London.Tommy Mandel, guest keys (the guy dancing)
@@leelanham5581 Not in my dictionary. Just say awesome then. I suppose it's reminiscent of back in the eighties when people started describing a band or a piece of music as "bad" when they actually meant good.
Mark Knopfler is one of the best guitarists there is. It was nice to see how the music crept inside you and you completely of which was caught. I watch this clip from Dire Straits a lot, but I feel the same as you do. 🤩😊👍
Guitar virtuoso Mark Knopfler does not use a plectrum, it is all done using his fingers. Although Knopfler is a different type of guitarist, I think he is he is up there with Gilmour as one of the best!!
What a lovely reaction, just love your honesty and immense joy in your faces as you went along that dusty journey in your open top car listening to to one of the greatest bands ever to have existed. I was very lucky to see them live in 1985
I just love you two.I am a 66 year old man that grew up with this music and sad to say stuff from the 70s and 80s is all I listen to today They made magic back then. Now you don't have to have much talent to be famous.Music has no heart like it used to.
I love that in every video, when she speaks, he always looks right at her, and gives her his undivided attention, without interruption. Maybe it's manners but I think it's just love and respect. Reactors forget that the viewer is often just people watching, and it's as much about that, as anything else.
Absolutely love this. Probably one of the best live recordings ever. Terry Williams, the drummer’s dad was in the audience and had never seen him playing with Dire Straits. That’s why Terry gave one of the greatest drum performances of all time.
Grew up with their music ❤ My Dad was/is a big fan and I LOVE LOVE LOVE Mark's guitar playing 🙏🏼 It's always like his guitar is answering or singing along with him 🤩 "Brothers in Arms" makes me cry EVERY SINGLE TIME and I'm sure I heard it at least 1 million times in the last 39years that I'm on earth 😅
“Mark Knopfler has an extraordinary ability to make a Schecter Custom Stratocaster hoot and sing like angels on a Saturday night, exhausted from being good all week and needing a stiff drink.” ― Douglas Adams, So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish
This is the best version of Sultans of Swing ever. Mark's guitar solo is SENSATIONAL. Mark Knopfler is left-handed but plays right-handed. Therefore he imparts more force on the guitar neck strings, in this case using the Fender Stratocaster, by plucking more gently with his right hand. MK was the first to introduce fingerpicking on the electric guitar.... it's his hallmark. I LOVE HIM. Grazie per la bella reaction Siete una bellissima coppia 🤍 LOVE Teresa from GENOA -ITALY
Mark is an incredible guitarist. His singing is not so complicated. In a sense his guitar is the singing voice and he plays rhythm guitar with his voice.
One of my Top Five songs of all time....and Mark Knopfler's guitar work in this performance of it is just insanely good.. I was fortunate to see them three times in the early-mid 80s- some of the best shows I've seen.
Mark Knopfler is one of the greatest guitar players ever . You have now discovered two of my favourite players along with David Gilmour . You really should check out Telegraph Road by Dire Straits from the Alchemy Tour . Its outstanding .
Dire Straits were a fantastic band, and what more can be said about Mark Knopfler except that his 'reason for every note' style of playing is just unique and special! Mark started out as a newspaper reporter and because of that background he has an exceptional way of telling stories in song ! It is always worth paying attention to his lyrics, and I'll say that he is still my favorite lyricist today! I loved all his work with Dire Straits, but appreciate his following solo albums even more! Cheers!
Great reaction! Always been one of my #1 Dire Straits tracks. Mark Knopfler is such an incredible guitarist - plays with such groove, and shall I say 'swing'!! This is a great version with the extended solo. They have so many great tracks: Brothers In Arms (is a must, but have a tissue handy - it's an emotional one!), So Far Away, Money For Nothing, Romeo & Juliet, Private Investigations...that should give a good continuation path! Cheers.
I definitely echo the calls for "Telegraph Road" (Alchemy live) followed by the official video version of "Brothers In Arms". Loved your reaction to this. Be well.
So cool indeed! It was great fun to see how much you two enjoyed my favourite rock song of all time. I've been listening to it since it came out some 40 or so years ago, and I never get tired of it. It's a masterpiece.
All the memories that came flooding back. Sitting in café "Drinkwinkel" in Vilvoorde, when everybody was still alive, except for Werner who died in 1977. A lot of others have passed away since then, but we had such good times. Friends stay by the wayside, but the memories remain.
What a priceless reaction... your constant head banging, your smiles throughout and the little looks of excitement you kept giving to each other!! Wonderful. I've heard this song hundreds of times, but your honest reaction made it so enjoyable. Thankyou both 😊
I have this live version on my playlist when ever I’m out and about I listen to it one of my favourite bands. Thank you I’m glad you enjoyed it this version is the best for me. By the way Ren plays without a pick as well he said it hurts after a while.
This was the band's first UK chart hit. Inspired by a band lead guitarist Mark Knopfler saw late one night in a bar in South London playing to a few people. The song is a narrative. He tells a story in his songs. Brothers in Arms was inspired by the Falklands War in 1982 when Argentina invaded the Falkland Islands. Telegraph Road is a social commentary about the USA and how the Telegraph brought about change prosperity and progress then came the depression job losses and poverty. In the USA the Telegraph Road is a major highway through the state of Michigan. Mark's unique style of guitar playing comes from blues style. He picks the strings with his thumb and two fingers. With his lightning fast left hand he can bend or vibrate THREE STRINGS at the same time. On tour he uses a lot of session musicians. The drummer for this tour was welshman Terry Williams. Bass guitarist is a member of the original band Dire Straits John Ilsley. Support guitarist was American Hal Lindes. On Keyboards Alan Clarke and a second keyboard player Guy Fletcher.
You really need to check out Telegraph Road (alchemy live). In my opinion it’s THE best performance by Dire Straits..an absolute masterpiece. My favourite song by them is Tunnel of Love. The alchemy live version of this is fantastic and it has a five minute instrumental outro which is absolutely phenomenal…pure brilliance and my favourite outro of any song ever. Don’t miss out on these 2 😊🔥🔥🔥
That was a virtuoso performance by the entire band. Knopfler is an amazing talent. He did the soundtrack to an excellent film you should watch called LOCAL HERO. Loved your reaction.
Mark Knopfler was born in Glasgow, Scotland, but is more associated with Newcastle in North-East, England. Worked in Leeds as a journalist. Found the band Dire Straits with his brother, John Isley, and Pick Withers. Now mainly retired from the music business, and lives in Chelsea, London.
I don't like electric guitar music in general, but I love Dire Straits. Mark learned his style on an acoustic, and started fingerpicking travis style (which is something I love to play myself). This is probably why his electric guitar style is a little bit unique, compared to most electric guitar players.
