Asia & BJ, you'll love their "Take The Long Way Home", "Give A Little Bit" and "Dreamer" !!!
I agree 💯
Yelp!
I totally agree!
And bloody well right with that crazy piano 🎹 intro 😍
Those are great songs 👍
One of the greatest songs ever, someone actually wrote these lyrics down and came up with the melody and instrumental.. So ridiculously talented.. It pleases me and pisses me off at the same time.. So damn jealous of this talent...
Seeing them perform live they sound EXACTLY like this... so clean and tight
So many great songs from Supertramp! Great reaction!!
Thanks J D!
“Like a king without a castle, like a queen without a thrown, I’m an early morning lover and I must be moving on. Yeah…yeah”. 16 going on 17 when this came out and for me? That was real talk in those lyrics 🤣
Breakfast In America was most definitely a vibe. The lyrics to this song, the musical production, the little nuances were, as the French would say, magnifique!
Still remember me and my friends cruising around in my 70 Chevelle singing in falsetto to to this song! Yes we sounded awful but still the best days of my life
@@kenwelch198 I think we all tried that falsetto chorus. A great group that often gets overlooked.
I played this to death on my car cassette and I still have my vinyl record of "Breakfast in America". Loved that album
Me too, I’m glad I kept all my original vinyl albums from decades ago
@@soniasurija8880 Me too, l wish I'd bought some of the cassettes I've got on vinyl.
Supertramp is one of my favourite band...SO CREATIVE !!! (keyboards, several voices at the same time singing in perfect harmony, drums...whistle...well, they are legends!)
Love them! Ahhhhh those 70’s! Breakfast In America! ❤️❤️. Keep goin y’all! Hidden treasures all over that album! Reminds me of riding my 🚴🏾♂️ from one side of town to the other! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️
That instrument you're thinking of is a didgeridoo!
Hey, you can react to any song on that album and it will be a win!
Loved the reaction!
Do yourselves a favor and watch this whole LP live. Incredibly talented
musicians playing an array of instruments and styles..quite a show.
I always loved this guitar solo at the end. Technically it's not the most difficult, but the effects and feel is incredible.
Rated in the top 100 guitar solos of all times! They didn’t get the best version, the live dubbed version has the best version of the solo..
Agreed and Rick Davies's woo hoo sends the solo into overdrive.
1987. Just passed my driving test in the rain. Drove straight from the DMV by myself to the mall with my official license, windshield wipers going thud...thud...thud....I was listening to this very tape. The taste of freedom and Super Tramp in my ears.
I don’t think they know what a tape is lol
Absolutely love ALL of Supertramp!!!!!! Born in '72..totally grew up since a toddler with this group. My parents were dedicated music lovers & had every music group album literally. Music was always playing on my fathers record player through his phenomenal stereo system & huge speakers.
It’s a guitar with a little bit of a phaser effect. Isn’t it amazing to think that they played this by hand?
Regardless of genre, I prefer handmade music over machine-made music. Humans grooving in real time. That could be this, it could be the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, it could be Metallica, it could be John Denver, it could be Miles Davis, it could be Hank Williams. Did humans play it while tape rolled? Then I prefer it over the alternative.
As a musician, I’m more amazed that people have forgotten that musicians exist and do these things regularly. 🤷🏼♂️
The guitar player at the end is none other than Roger Hodgson, one of the of original founders of Supertramp along with Rick Davies who wrote and sang this song. Hodgson' did the background vocals but his guitar solo at the end of the song was rated as one of the 100 all-time greatest rock guitar solos.
Greatest guitar outro of all time imo.
Phenomenal band and album.I was a pee wee listening to this and many more greats thanks to older brother.
I agree with Surlechapeau, you have to hear "Take the long way home, The Logical Song, Give a little bit & Dreamer, :)
ok you guys hit the jackpot with this group , that album (breakfast in america ) is a true masterpiece , if memory serves me , every song on that album is really good and worth a listen , love your reactions as always , you picked 2 of my favorite songs this one here and im going to go check out your reaction on prince while my guitar gently weeps
Thanks for listening
Compressor and phaser guitar pedals used for the ending solo effects; cool sound.
Goodbye stranger
It’s been nice
Hope you find your paradise
Tried to see your point of view
Hope your dreams will all come true
Goodbye Mary
Goodbye Jane
Will we ever meet again?
Feel no sorrow; feel no shame
Till tomorrow, feel no pain
I'm probably wrong, but I always sing it "come tomorrow, feel no pain." I guess that's the beauty of lyrics even if you tweak them to make more sense to you.
@@derekhudson3523 I think it is come, that's how I hear it too
This song is so richly layered it takes a few times hearing to fully appreciate. The call and response part of the chorus is fantastic.
Supretramp. Yessss! The band consisted of a bunch of talented musicians.
Fantastic group. 🙂
We agree!
I love her smile. She´s so cute 😘
Their biggest hit in USA & Uk was “The Logical Song” awesome song
Hey guys, You need to see this live. It's a blast to watch. It's live on UA-cam on the Midnight Special and 1979 Live in Paris.
So much nostalgia with this song❣️
Hello from South France *Asia and BJ,*
The guitarist uses a pedal wah-wah. 😉
The "wah-wah" effect was first used for the trumpet (since 1920, to be exact); you've already seen a trumpet player using something like a mute which fits tightly into the trumpet's bell, and with his hand, opens and closes the mute to create this strange sound (Mile Davis uses it often, for example), aren't you?
The first wah-wah pedal for guitar was created in 1966.
Note: With her tray, the waitress is figuring the Statue of Liberty.
It’s all guitar with the affects pedal. These guys were legends.
Thanks for playing one of my favorite groups - Try Supertramp "Give a Little Bit" - You'll love it!!
Ultimate 70s song, isn't it. He must be movin' on! Feel no sorrow, feel no shame. ;)
In Texas saying hi, great channel, thank you for the memory , I was overseas when this album came out , bought it in Japan. 🇺🇸⚓️
Rock on!
I was a teenager when Supertramp came out, just adore them!! xx
An iconic pop album. It was all over the radio for years.
Roger Hodgson's guitar skill is off the charts
Roger Hodgson mr.Supertramp himself is a fucking genius both as a songwriter and producer.
This is Rick Davies song.
Asia said the vibe is "like being on the go". That's the point! He is a carefree man who enjoys lovin' 'em and leavin' 'em and doesn't care what anyone thinks of him. The King of One Night Stands with no guilt at all. Thus, the carefree whistling in the middle of the song. Brilliant instrumental!!
Four masterpiece albums:
Crime of the Century
Crisis? What Crisis?
Even In the Quietest Moments
Breakfast in America
Two very good albums:
Famous Last Words
Brother Where You Bound
( the live album " Paris " is superb)
All songs good/very good/masterpiece( as Goodbye Stranger obviously is). A mix of prog/pop with prog elements/jazz-rock, with distinctive vocal styles and superior musicianship/production
The album cover: a parody depiction of New York City, the waitress is the Statue of Liberty
Agree entirely, l would put Indelibly Stamped in the very good list.
The guitar sound was accomplished by a distortion pedal - I think it's called a flanger. It does kinda make a sound similar to a didgeridoo, although the Australian instrument is a woodwind.
Supertramp is sooo underrated
The Aussie indigenous instrument is a digeridoo. Similar sounds come from a jaw harp often called jew's harp. That was a guitar with a wah-wah pedal. For a complete change of pace check out Johnny Mercer's 1945 tune "Accentuate the Positive." He was one of the few black men to be mainstream back then. The tune is smart and fun.
Always found this band to be super under-rated. Their music was sick for the time. School is insane.
LOL Down under instrument is a Didgeridoo….
I can't tell how much I wore this album out when it came out. Truly iconic album:)
Grew up with this music my dad liked them alot
that sound was Roger Hodgeson on guitar using a wa wa pedal or a squak box......Roger is the bands other writer and lead singer the guy singing in this song was Rick Davis they tended to sing the songs they wrote
Breakfast in America is there most popular album due to its catchy easy going nature. They have made many great albums and are unique in that they have two brilliant vocalists in Roger Hodgson and Ric Davies. Anyone who doesn't like Goodbye Stranger is either tone deaf or a Rush fan.
They used keyboards and synthesizers for all those sounds. A WAWA peddle makes guitar sound you heard.👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼❤❤❤❤❤
You know when you watch a movie you’ve seen a hundred times then your with someone who hasn’t seen it, you don’t mind seeing the movie again and the movie just seems so good because your sharing it with them experiencing it for the first time. You bring that element to your videos! Thank you so much.
Check out Yankee Rose from David Lee Roth.
Love y’all!
The outtro is so effing amazing
I think the instrument BJ is thinking about is a mouthpiece, like a little thing you flick and open and close your mouth to make the octaves.
If this great song doesnt lift you up when your down nothing will .
I have no comment to make other than I'd really like this played at my funeral. I think it's the perfect song to make an exit. Better tell my kids 😆
You will love every song off this album!
The instrument you were thinking about from Australia is called a didgeridoo.
Designer Mike Doud did the cover recreating Manhattan with tableware and the Statue of Liberty as a waitress.
What a great outro in this song
It's about one. Night stands
Love this song! I think their best. It is a music treat. Supertramp put our some good tunes. Check out the logical sons and long way home.
FANTASTIC ALBUM. But I don't know why no one ever reacts to Lord is it mine this is an amazing song as well
"Oh Lord, Is It Mine".
Sir, Ms. You two are amazing...🍺
The open road is his one true love.
Life is so short. Go. See. Do.
It's a muted guitar. That's why it sounds so different.
CLASSIC!!!!
Lord is it mine. From the same album is my favourite.
I think you meant the Digeridoo musical instrument.
It's the city of New York and if you look at this album cover in the mirror, you'll see that above the Twin Towers it says 911, l've had this album for years and never noticed it, not until after 911, great album though 👍
He was using an effect on his guitar. Maybe tremolo. Creates sort of a vibrating effect.
Or delay.
That bassline in the end... Supertramp are da s***
This song is often cut short on classic rock radio and other reactions. I'm glad that you played the entire song because that guitar solo outro is amazing, and a pivotal fast-tempoed payoff for a long, generally slow paced song. At casual glance, Supertramp may come off as pop rock because they had so many upbeat hits. But their catalog is one of the more intriguing showcases of progressive rock.
Hey guys hope you all are be Blessed, this day, give a listen to Steve Mariott, " BLACK COFFEE ".. I THINK YOU ARE GOING TO BE AMAZED....ENJOY,,,,,,,SCOTTI
Literally every song on Breakfast in America is great; not a single song is filler.
Give a Little Bit.......... BANGER on steroids!!!
So this was my era and somehow Supertramp and Cheap Trick get intermingled. Both awesome in a similar way. ]if you haven't done any Cheap Trick I recommend them.
A JOY
The instrument is a mouth harp.
A cool kinda unique melody, devil may care vibe…..a flippant attitude, kinda casual, but upbeat. 😁😘🌻
ayyyy yea this bands pretty great
You're thinking of a didgeridoo.
At moments that also sounds like a mouth harp which is what you were referring to when you put your hands up to your mouth and spoke of the odd guitar sound.
you will like many other Supertramp tracks!
Man, would love to see you guys do Bloody Well Right 😉
Dive into their hands down best LP (album) "Crime of the Century"
The Australian instrument it's a Aboriginal DIDGERIDOO. Doesn't have musical notes to control. ☯️✌
Didgeridoo from Australia. Great observation
Waitress represents the Statue of Liberty and the background represents Manhattan.
❤❤❤
Love this ❤❤❤
Asia. I'm in love !
Statue of liberty. Nyc guys. Fn cool.
But I have to have things my own way to keep me in my youth. Great lyric.
Great one guys, I think that their genre was progressive rock. I had this Lp and "Crime Of The Century" both really good records. ☮️✌️💕👌
The "didgeridoo" is the Australian aboriginal instrument that you were asking about. I think a closer comparison would would a "jew's harp" which is similar sounding.
Check out Cannonball by Supertramp. It’s a feast for your ears
A great deep cut on this album is “Just Another Nervous Wreck”.
Maybe BJ is thinking of a didgeridoo. The guitar kind of sounded like one near the end.
This rocks!
Caught you early,nice😎
Thanks for coming
Statue of liberty, Breakfast in New York.
New York City, and the Statue of Liberty...
