The Huge Costs of Running a GA Maintenance Side Business | Essential Expenses Breakdown
What was the final torque on the rudder & elevator nuts? Can’t seem to find it in the manual.
Thanks dude this was one of the first things I learned at A&P school, good refresher 😄
Bryce are you at TCC? I’m starting at TES soon, and will be enrolling in TCC in about a year, can you test out of school by working on the job?
Yes add the cheese 😂
I start school for A&P in 2 weeks and im super stoked 18months is the length of the program but i know it will fly by ! Cant wait to be out there in the field in this career/life changing opportunity 🙌 🫡
Favorite A&P!
Love these kind of video where you teach us how to do these projects, Helps alot, specially when testing for practicals! ❤❤
Great video
I am building my third Van’s and still learning today from your video. Great thanks
Could you give me some examples for the practical test projects sir ?
The average pay in GA with no benefits is certainly one of the main issues. I enjoyed working on GA aircraft at A&P school, but if someone who aspires to raise a family, they're going to need a wage that can support one. Would love to work in GA, but maybe when I retire and or at least semi-retire. Just certainly not now with the current GA atmosphere in this current stage of my life.
Hey Bryce, I just wanted to say your videos have been Extremely helpful in getting my Airframe certification. I was unable to get my Power plant certification due to time constraints. Safety wiring a turnbuckle was one of my practical projects. I felt very confident in doing so after watching your video. As well, your tips for testing and calling the DME prior and ascertaining what aircraft would be used for my test!
DMEs do not come up with the questions for orals or practicals. It’s given to them by FAA. He told me to study everything. He had no idea. A great way to study is listening to orals questions for which ever test you’re studying on UA-cam. I was listening to the UA-cam video on repeat at work or when I drove. Just go take it and pay for the retake if you don’t pass. It’s no big deal and you’ll get a feel for what the test is like. YOU GOT THIS!
Still just a student, but this is my favorite safety to do :p
Perfect
neat
Bryce what do you think about doing A&P as a second career? Can you get a job in this trade working day or swing shift? Or realistically does everyone have to start on night shift for years? I worked mids for 10 years in my current career and although I’m in good shape, my body can no longer tolerate midnights.
Im taking my powerplant practical in 3 weeks, would you recommend i watch youtube videos on different practicals, or does UA-cam not really help? Im gonna get practice with the projects hands on with an instructor, but im just wondering if youtube will be any help.
Worked in GA while going to school and I have the same opinion as almost everyone else. Working in GA just isn’t worth it. The pay to responsibility just doesn’t add up. I work on forklifts now and get payed way more than what I would make on GA. We charge 200$ an hour to work on forklifts! How are GA shops going to charge less than that. I don’t know if GA will ever attract more mechanics. Why work GA when you can work airlines and get paid a lot more with less stress. Good GA mechanics should probably be the highest paid as the range of planes they can work on can be from a Cessna 152 to a personal jet to a helicopter. That’s a lot of knowledge you must have to work on all those. If your working GA or own a GA business your doing it for the passion and love for it. I doubt there’s a lot of money to be made.
so glad i found this page. links are worth their IPs in gold lol
If the extra hole is big enough, i would try putting the end of pigtail inside that hole. I have not seen anyone do it like that, but nobody's complaining either. Haha. I had worked in engine shop previously, and I just had so much time in my hand which is why I tried that. Some technicians will end up with 3 pcs of wire when removing them, I do mine same as yours. I always say, safety-wiring is like your signature, better look good!
Imagine how simple it would be if it was in metric .... 😄
No kidding.
I get a lot of the measurement methods and sizing is legacy stuff, but would it kill manufacturers to put a metric size on the box?
i just moved to NJ with hands on 10 years of aviation experience and looking for job while i get my A&P . and i cant find a job in NJ
can anyone here help me find a job
I really appreciate the advice and your channel. I am a new tech and there is a very limited amount of information out there for aviation mechanics.
A new one just showed up in my hangar. I haven’t looked very closely yet, but I am curious, with the engine on a cradle rather than a motor mount, where is the oil filter located? I’ve been searching UA-cam for a 206 oil change demo, but can’t find anything. Also, do you know what the filter is? There’s certainly a quick drain, right?
Depending on model it's on the back of the engine, either next to oil cooler upside down or facing the firewall below the vacuum pump. It's probably a 48-110 but I don't know for sure
@@brycebuildsitthank you 🙏
Bro I passed yesterday ,fully certified,I’m so happy bro,had to let you know bro ,you gave me some strength when I needed it 🙏
We love to hear it. huge, congratulations 🎊
@ 😎🙏🫡
I realize this is an old video, but I would have loved for you to include how you are going to fix the bad holes. Maybe it’s covered in a later video. I just found your channel when searching for information about Part 147 schools and will probably binge from the beginning on your aviation and Miata content (I have a 2007).
I’d be willing to bet both the 210 and 206 arrived on the scene with constant speed propellers…
My family had a 58 bonanza. I grew up in that plane. We were nearly killed when the engine blew up . The motor shook like crazy, the rods went right through the engine block, sprayed oil all over the windshield. Everyone said we would have been killed in any other airplane due to the extreme violence of the shaking. My father was an expert pilot , it was unbelievable what happend. We lived ,got a new engine and a paint job. Look it up, 2 EE.
hello every one and Bryce, would you recommend the 206 for a trip around the globe, and think about the leg from Hawaii to Ca is 2450nm, thanks for your help
Wind? Whataburger? You must be in Texas….
You can mix it with Clorox if necessary depending how much mold you have.
teenager here, i dont mind working 50 hour weeks monday-friday but do we have to work weekends???
At an airline Until you have some seniority, most likely it will be a few years before you dont have to work weekends. If you work for a repair station they are typically Monday through Friday
"death by powerpoint" so true😭😭😭
I’m joining an apprentice program… is that a good route?
Yeah. I think any route is a good route.
Lot of those have late model small block Chevy engines in them, seems like a better and cheaper option to a real aircraft engine for a lot of reasons You have hundreds of mods you can do by changing cams, ignition, fuel etc
I’m just working! I already have logbooks I’m 11 months in about to get the FAR/AIM and test prep books for general and airframe that I plan on taking in 7 months
Do one on safety wiring a prop
I had fun with this one a few years back, new B&C starter, 1 gauge wire, battery and solenoid later and almost 2 grand and she started right up. Nothing sprinkling a little money on didn't fix.
On which form number we can apply for A&P certificate?
Thank you for keeping making this videos
Everyone reading this, except the newbies, knows that it is SO much easier to safety a turnbuckle or hardware on the bench than it is where it is installed. Excellent video. While I have your attention, when it comes to installing a bolt with a castle nut I like to run the nut down by hand and install a cotter pin so that the bolt can rotate freely should the self-aligning bearing were to seize. What are your thoughts on this?
Awesome! thank you
Is there a good resource, potentially "free" to review/refresh subjects? ie just video's of tasks required for the practicals? I'm working on my written through military's JSAMTCC program, but I've been out of the maintenance field for about 15 years (switched to flight engineer). I'm about to retire from the AF (at 20 years) and want to freshen up on some things, just seeing a video series of all the basic stuff would be helpful. Its been awhile since I've had to drill and shoot a rivet. I'm probably just going to go to bakers hopefully sometime middle of next year, once I get my writtens complete, just before I go on terminal leave.
Very informative. I have been out of the industry for 20 years. Thanks
I can kind of tell you haven’t worked mainline, especially because you bring up contact maintenance so much. OT is not mandatory, and is actually heavily sought after. #5 is a good thing because it’s easy to network and build a good reputation for yourself. #4 is the major one on this list. Aviation is a relatively new industry, and therefor layoffs and mergers are still common, even when they seem too big to fail - TWA, PanAm. It’s getting better though, if the pandemic happened 20 years ago, 80% of the workforce would have been laid off. The shift are what they are. Aircraft sit in airports longer at night than they do during the day. That’s the opportune time to do lengthier maintenance. Everyone does their time on night shift. As your seniority goes up, you eventually be the one in first and second shift, although it can take decades. Working outside? It’s completely dependent on location. Working outside in LAX and BOS are completely different monsters both in the summer and the winter. But, being outside is so much better and healthier than being locked inside all the time.
And NOBODY cares about your feelings. If you are thinking of getting into the maintenance world and watching this...if you are easily butthurt you need to grow a thick skin. Or you will be sad. Often. Just sayin'.
Hi, how about me? I’m already 50 years old, so I’m going to start my AP program here in avondale Arizona UTI universal technical Institute. Now my question is is it worth it for me spending $50,000 of financing for the program? I’ve been doing auto mechanic for more than 20 years. Now from being said, does it worth it to go to the program the fact that I’m 50 😅
I think you can make more as automotive at this point. But if aviation is what you're passionate about, then no, I don't think it's too late.
Really considering getting my A&P and becoming a mechanic, working on planes seems really interesting to me, im in the DFW area, im really hoping to get into a major airline here, dont know how realistic it is, not sure if I'll have to move to get hired into a major out of school
Ngl I just got my A&P license on the 8th of November and am kinda lost on what to do next lol
Apply for as many jobs as you can! But in truth, I understand you get so wrapped up in achieving the goal that after you do. There is this moment of well shit now what
